It should be yummy, but I'm going to guess because the fruit was not drained the syrup took it over the top. Some fruit syrup tastes off. That or the sweetened coconut flakes. I have a super sweet tooth, but I've overdone it before lol.

Exactly! When I was younger, we always made it with fresh fruits and tiny marshmallows. I know many recipes call for coolwhip but I always found it too sweet when added in.
