This is a very unique production, cleverly mixing reality with fantasy, and allowing the fantasy part to play a conscious role in the narrative of the drama, at least by one person.

I always wonder why so many contemporary Chinese costumed TV drama attracted so many international fans--i think they do a fairly good job in delivering the dramatic tension via the character's performance and storyline design without relying that much on the character's dialogue. So that you can enjoy the other aspects of the TV drama and guess what is happening there based on screen images without recourse to the Chinese language. Sorry I am thinking a lot about this international fandom but could not figure out why as I am a mandarin speaker.

I'm having a hard time with this one. I loved how funny the characters were and I loved the setting, the costumes, and the mix of reality vs fantasy, but I'm having a hard time getting sucked into it. Somethings missing for me.
