The shortest-range attacks in Brood War are, Broodling - 2 pixels = 0.0625 matrices Infested Terran - 3 px = 0.09375 m Scourge - 3 px *SCV - 10 px* = 0.3125 m Zergling - 15 px = 0.46875 m Infested Kerrigan - 15 px Dark Templar - 15 px Zealot - 15 px Consume - 16 px (yes, Consume is an attack) = 0.5 m Ultralisk - 25 px = 0.78125 m Firebat - 32 px (splash extends farther) = 1 m *Drone - 32 px* *Probe - 32 px* Archon - 64 px (splash extends farther) = 2 m Flamethrower Wall Trap - 64 px Mutalisk - 96 px = 3 m Tassadar - 96 px As you can see, all "melee attacks" and suicide attacks have ranges below 32 px (called a range of "1 matrix"), and all other attacks have ranges that are multiples of 32 px (called range of "2," "3," etc.), except for the workers. Probes and drones have a range of exactly 32 pixels, while SCVs have a range of a mere 10 px. Despite this, it is still a ranged attack, in the sense that SCVs create a missile that has to reach the target, and the attack can miss. FWIW, Blizzard documentation describes them as ranged units with a range of "1," which presumably is just them rounding up.

@@DrZygote214 I pulled it from a csv that had all the weapon type data, which I think comes from the mpq. The Scarab attack actually has 128 range for some reason. This range is never used. The way the code for reaver attacks works, the scarab will only attack when it gets within inner_splash_radius / 2 = 10 pixels of the target. So effectively, scarabs have the same attack range as SCVs.

@@Tremis77 Oh god what a great pick, Queen is just a reliable powerhouse. I almost became a fan just after this vod. I come from GSL too, until I realized that really what I am watching is ... Artosis and Tastles cast and I had to switch to ASL which was fairly easy. I am sorry for making this longer. I found my favourite player is Rush. I was so happy I watched every Rush game from asl10 😃. Having a player to follow made my ASL experience twice better!

You can see the desynch at 31:31. Or well I mean, it desynched sometime slightly before then, but that's when they switched to the second observer. Definitely a very confusing experience live. I'm glad Artosis figured it out after the game.

Because the problem is with the observer PC receiving updated unit locations and data it’s a synchronization of data not time. Visually it looks like a time skip to you but all they did was swap observers everything still happened in real time

I know Artosis was laughing watching queen dark swarm his way into the natural of Barracks but I could hear the pain in his soul.

Tastosis, can you make it a point to comment on the interviews? Sometimes they say such absurd things and you don't mention it, maybe because you don't watch them. The fact that Queen had a build for JyJ and accidentally played it against him on ladder? Cmon that's gold.

SPOILERS: Queen is so good and played really well. Even in his losses he put up resistance and showed a lot of skill. I remember years ago reading a Bisu interview where he talked about playing a random Zerg player online and losing 10 games in a row to them. He said that he knew for sure that it had to be either Jaedong or Queen. It ended up being JD but it shows just how much Bisu respected Queen's ability.

I'm astounded that people are still competetively playing Starcraft after this long. This was THE original eSport.

About that confusion with the sudden "skip" in game 1: at 13 minutes 5 seconds, you can tell from looking at the minimap (plus an abrupt drop in Barracks' supply) that a small chunk of game is missing. All of a sudden, Rush has seized control of the open terrain between Barracks' third and natural. The weird thing is that the duration counter does not skip any seconds? I guess the replay is indeed broken like Artosis ponders that it might be, but the duration counter for the observer somehow counts only what ends up being in the replay.

This isn't from a replay though, what they are recording from is the live game. It's possible part of the recording of the broadcast got corrupt, or maybe on the live cast they cut to something that they later deemed they had to cut out of the recording they give to Artosis and Tasteless. Edit: Saw another comment that explains it was a desync and they had to cut to the other observer to fix it.

Asl always has two observers, you can see them at the bottom before the game starts. The game de-synced for one observer which when they noticed, they immediately switched to the other observer's camera. That's why the counter seems like it did not change. This happens at about 31:33. At about 31:25 you can see the observer notices the game is de-sync (most likely due to the huge mass of units idling at the rally - a very common happening when this problem occurs) for them and their mouse idles for a few seconds as they begin to switch cameras.

I kept thinking during the descriptions of Hydra/Lurker/Defiler: isn't this part of why we used to see so much Terran mech like 10-15 years ago? I remember plague still being super useful against mech, but with spider mines everywhere and a ton of siege tanks, the defilers didn't usually get close enough to plague valuable targets. And I seem to remember around this time was when the goliath starts became common to deal with the mutas. I'm not a Terran main (Zerg honestly, sorry!), but I keep thinking that the counter to that kind of play is just straight mech Terran. At the same point, I guess you're 100% signing up for a long drawn out game when you go mech, with very little chance for major threats or a kill on zerg for quite a while....which in and of itself is a problem, cause I'd get up to 3 or 4 gas without a worry....so I can see its downsides, but if I was a terran main, I think I'd just go mech every time to ensure no "stupid losses" this way....am I missing something here?

So did the bunker in the natural mineral line work? Zerg saw it, and stayed away from it for the rest of the game, so the bunker did it's job of keeping the mutas out? Or was it just that the marine pressure forced the mutas out onto the map? Or did he find the refinery to be a better target? Was he just weirded out with a bunker being there and stayed out just to be sure?

Every time I see 1-1-1 against Zerg the past few seasons, it seems to end up with Mutas killing all the SCVs. It feels so all in for something as volatile as a little drop.

2 great losses from JD and Queen so far. You can learn a lot about where a player is at when their losses are nail biting drawn out games where they almost win with no chance. Hopefully they don't play each other because I can see them both winning the next round they way they are playing right now.

JyJ says he didn’t practice TvT and then proceeds to thank/name off some of the best Terrans as practice partners haha.

I find Queen the most "boring" Zerg to watch and I'm saying that in the most respectful way! He builds his advantage the whole game by not doing mistake and a bit like FlaSh, to beat him you have to also not do any mistakes. As soon as Queen has the advantage you kind of know where the game will end!

I feel like this broken replay thing happened once in ASL before. There was a huge game with carriers just going around the map destroying everything unopposed for 2 minutes while a Terran just wasn t moving at all or something. We didn t miss much this time though, the real replay was just slightly less embarrassing, but the loser still got completely outmanoeuvered.

At 31:32 there is a huge change in the minimap. This is the discontinuity that Tastosis comment on.

I would like to do this for SC2. WIll you please take my money?

Rush was one mouse click away from going to the Ro8. Queen took a win-lose gamble with that 12'oclock unguarded expansion. Easy kill for a 12 M&M squad. The gods of random brain generator favvoured zerg this time.

I enjoy watching tvz or pvz more, but especially in tvz if I don't get battlecruisers late game then I die a little inside, so sad Royal stopped using battlecruisers.
