The next episode of Explore New England TV pay an early-fall visit to Block Island, RI. When summer ends, Block Island quickly settles into off-season mode, leaving plenty of room to roam and time for exploring its many natural wonders. This episode samples an array of outdoor activities ranging from surf casting for striped bass and false albacore to a fascinating lesson in migratory bird-banding with members of The Nature Conservancy on Block Island. Also on tap are a visit to the restored Southeast Lighthouse with a docent from the Southeast Lighthouse Foundation, and a stroll through one of the many protected parcels of land on the island (nearly half of Block Island is protected from development), as well as a stay at the historic Spring House Hotel & Resort, which remains open through early October.
