For anyone watching who has had this surgery recommended, but is nervous about doing it. Don't worry, just go for it. The results are immediate and you will get your life back. Obviously make sure you go to a good hospital and speak to an experienced surgeon, but as the video demonstrates, it's not actually a complex operation. It can be frightening because of the location, but it's a fairly quick operation and you can usually go home the same day or the following day. In my case my recovery involved absolute rest for 2 weeks, followed by daily 1 hour physio sessions for 2 weeks, then exercises at home for a month. After that, I was basically back to normal.

I have a bulging disc and the exercising routine is crucial: I am doing yoga, planks, dead bugs, otherwise doing Deadlifts and Squats with light weights, so my core is strong. On the second place death hangs, swimming and back hyperextensions(on a gym machine) are also great! I feel actually no pain and can live like a normal person. Some patients may just need a steroid shot, everyone is different of course. I hope you get the help you need. Btw: I had the same anxiety about surgery. I took a leap of faith and did it. Your call / to me it was worth it. I have zero issues and its been 2 years now.

Coz I have the same issue and consulted 2 doctors, one suggested to go with PLIF and the other doctor suggested this one, microdisectomy. He told chances of recurrence is only 5%, why unnecessarily implant foreign parts and screws in your body? Did your doctor say anything like that?

Hello. I am sharing my experience here. I have herniated disc at L5-S1 and L4-L5. I had pain since 2 months almost. At the beginning I had pain and stiffness in back when i woke up in the morning. After a month i went to the doc and was diagnosed with disc herniation. I got an epidural steroid shot, but it did not work. After few days the pain started to radiate to left leg, till last monday it became so severe that i couldn't even sit or walk upright. Main pain points were back of thigh and calves. So I went again and got micro-discectomy last thursday. The moment i woke up after surgery the pain was gone. I felt relieved. I have been advised be rest for 6 weeks or so. So far so good. I'll update future events Feel free to ask any questions if you have.

After watching these videos I’m no longer terrified of the possibility of surgery, although I believe the way Biokinetics are working so well, I will most probably not require surgery. I’m a medical doctor (though not a spinal specialist), but my sister has similar problems, with her spinal degeneration much more advanced than mine. She is very likely to end up having surgery, although our (common ) spinal doctor is still trying conservative treatment for now. Thank you for the wonderful videos.

I just found out I have a L5 s1 disc bulge to the left. I have back pain when I sit but no leg pain. Do u have a disc bulge/ back pain or only leg pain. Also I only hurt when I sit not when I'm trying to sleep. Did you heal up completely? If so how long did it take and what did u do to heal ? Please help 😊🙃 also my back used to get tight when I lay down for bed but since I started back exercises 4 weeks ago. It doesn't get tight when I lay down only when I drive or sit. Are u 100% healed or do u still have back pain? Did u get surgery? Are you having any complications after surgery? Also b4 your first surgery was your back hurting or your legs or both

It's great - 6* video - well presented, easy to understand, helpful to patients etc. It shows how to remove the leaked gel that press the nerve that cause the pain. I just wonder if there is any similar video for the cervical spine and the leaked gel does not press the nerve but press the spine cord. I think it may be more difficult to take the leaked gel out because it is deeper inside; and it more dangerous because it is right behind the spine cord . . . So how is this done? Many many thanks for all this and many other videos, Tony

God, I wish my surgery had been successful, if I were able to go to this clinic. But I also have other conditions causing extreme pain. I’ve been on prescription pain meds, but that only helps for a while. And steroid injections relieves pain for a few days, not weeks. It’s hard to explain to loved one and friends the pain I ‘m experiencing and maybe this video will help them understand. I hate it when people respond with, “Oh, I have back pain, too.” I’m 53, and after failed back surgery, pain rules my life. Even before Covid19, My mobility was limited, so I’ve been in self-isolation for almost four years. It’s depressing to know I will never live another day without pain.

I know how painful sciatica is, and the desperation of trying to fix it, as we'd try whatever we can to solve this problem. My aunt also had a very similar problem to yours, and she had to do another surgery, with different doctors, to relieve her pain. She can now function the way she used to, before her first operation. I hope someday you'll feel relieved of your pain. No one deserves to suffer this pain.

I don't know what to do as now my next appointment will only be in a month plus to see another neuro-surgeon in Crete, Greece. Conservative treatment is always the first line of treatment and with several different approaches-and for several months. Unfortunately for some, those treatments fail. Most time the patient chooses the surgery because the patient has run out of non-surgical options and cannot bear to live with the pain any longer. Although there may be some flattening of the disc, the benefit of reaching relief from months of agonizing back pain outweighs this possible risk factor for these patients.

So many things play a factor that it’s more about the guarantee of a better quality of life or reversing the damage and be how you were prior to your situation.

Discs can bulge again. Prevention is key. Follow your doctor’s or physical therapy recommendations on the best care for the discs in your back to reduce pressure and strain. If you like to work out at the gym, first learn techniques that strengthen the muscles that support the back including back muscles, shoulder muscles and core abdominal muscles and be very aware of your posture when you work-out at all times. Consult with a certified trainer at the gym before returning to your work out and explain your injury or back problem to them. Going back to the gym after a procedure depends on your doctor’s recommendations, which procedure you have had and in what location. An endoscopic (minimally invasive) procedure, such as in this video, will not take as long to return to your normal routine as an open procedure would. A good comfort level to start back to exercising on your own is around 6 weeks, but physical therapy guided exercises should come first and a Physical Therapist can usually get you started as early as 2-4 weeks.

If the herniated disc fluid is removed is there the potential for additional fluid remaining to cause another herniation or is the disc resealed after extraction? Does the removal of the nucleus material result in a reduced range of motion as the vertebrae no longer possess a potentially significant portion of the “ball bearing” material?

@@momo31180 I just found out I have a L5 s1 disc bulge to the left.

I have a few questions. What happens to the disk that is left there? Doesn’t it end up with less volume and thus increased risk of the vertebrae “colliding”? Or even the risk of new herniation?

No, but if you only have protusion, the core mass that remains is enough to damp impact. Most doctor also cauterize the disk in the point of fissure.
