    How many of us get as much practice ending a campaign as opposed to starting and running campaigns? Lol I have started more games than I have ever been able to finish personally.

    For those curious, the game he's talking about at the start of the video is King Arthur Pendragon. The campaign is actually on youtube if you want to watch it.

    One of the hardest things to do as DM, to dramatically fulfill the denouement, to give everyone that spotlight chance, wrap up satisfyingly an entire story with justice. Sooooo hard.

    I've only had one game that organically got to the 20s, that was in 4e. All the rest were made as high level games, so when people talk about not knowing how to find adventure for those sorts of heroes, that's what I'm imagining mostly. I generally found that over long campaigns almost nobody kept their character. PC death, betrayal, and boredom meant that the roster changed. Of course the only PC to make it from 1-21+ was the kobold cleric who became first "the mightiest of all kobolds", then the Queen of Kobolds, and finally Ni! goddess of Kobolds, in whose name dragons are slaughtered and the Shadowfell invaded by her glorious legions.

    I'm really interested to hear more about how this game works that Jim discusses. Each session is a year of time? Kind of intriguing.

    Yeah that was my takeaway too. How does that work? How long are sessions? Considering how notoriously a group can spend thirty minutes trying to open a door, I’m really struggling to imagine how I’d run something like that.

    For context, Jim is talking about a game in a different RPG system, it's not a D&D 5e game. It's Pendragon, a fantasy RPG based on Arthurian legend. The game is built around that idea of generational play, and the mechanics are built around that roughly ~year per session model, as you tend to your manor, do the things your lord asks of you, and fulfill any other such duties a chivalric knight might take care of over the course of a year.

    I love it when you have Jim on, but I have a question: What’s that name of the 4-chord orchestral music playing at the end of the video? I would love to put something like that on while I’m writing for my next game.

    the plan is that when my team ends, we will be doing campaign 2 on a new continent 20 years later, hmmmmm, sounds familiar

    The same character for 10 years?? Going out in a blaze of glory is a satisfying ending also. You can do that over and over again. I've never finished a long campaign with the same character that I started with.

    Would 'Session Omega' be an appropriate term for the 'planned ending' session ? And 'Session Splat' for those TPK ones :)

  • @justanotherdayinthelife9841
    @justanotherdayinthelife98413 жыл бұрын

    A gods deal to revive a tpk but 1 pc MUST give up their character (or characters soul) to do so. Which guarantees another shot to take out that Final Boss but at great sacrifice. All but one get revived, and if it happens again..waning results with choosing one more character to give up their characters (or souls) with a maximum of 3 revives for a 4 party crew but tragically sacrificing 3 characters souls to do so. Dramatic and could help if needed to amp the situation and balance at the same time with limited in game resources.

    Indeed. I fully expect Tiamat to mop the floor with my two groups (combined for eleven characters). I want them to win, but I will not be pulling any punches with a god. But if they fail, that’s where things get interesting

    How can you just hand wave away Jim not having seen the Yondu scenes. I understand not having the time to sit through the whole collection, any grouping, phase or w/e, but having no clue about some of the best scenes of The MCU? I wouldnt be able to go back to talking professionally, this would have had to have been discussed. Someone send Jim the ship, the umbrella, the fireworks, the trolls, and, of course, daddy scenes.
