    @@Pesmog I don't know if there are official TFL studies, but to be fair, some stations like Covent Garden or Bank (at least before the upgrade) are infamous. And there are plenty of unofficial studies ranking the "worst tube stations" And in the end, it depends quite a lot on one's personal taste. For example, I actually really like Covent Garden, despite it being one of the stations that are the least popular.

    @@acmenipponair I'm sure there will be a new record at some point, in a different order. Maybe move all labyrinths to the new order, and then number out of 272?Although how anyone gets to Heathrow inside of a day remains a mystery to me. On the other hand, you'd hope that new stations will continue to be added. Perhaps another scheme for the new ones? With 272/270 it is at least clear that they are outside of the record.

    You were walking to Vauxhall, and that reminded me of a Russian urban legend: The Russian word for "station" is VOKZAL. Legend has it, that the russian engineers, who came to Britain in the 19th century to study about trains, were based in Vauxhall. So all day long they were saying things like "I work in Vauxhall", "I go to Vauxhall", so the word "Vauxhall" became synonym to "station", and with a little russian accent became VOKZAL

  • @Luluxxxx

    @Luluxxxx

    Жыл бұрын

    Would be amazing if that were true 😆And in Russian, voksal *Воксал* refers to train stations and river stations, whereas in English we would be more likely to say port or pier or wharf. I always remembered it because the bus I needed from Moscow Airport to the nearest metro stop was the one that went all the way to Rechnoy Voksal Речной вокзал (river station).

  • @viacheslavnovikov1657

    @viacheslavnovikov1657

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Luluxxxx It's because the word "Vokzal" is referred to a TERMINUS or a TERMINAL BUILDING (hence applicable to River Terminal or Airport Terminal or Bus Terminal) whereas the term "Stantsya" (station) is referred to a Railway station which has sidetracks along the main track(s). And the railway station that has only the main track(s), is called a "Platform" or a "Stopping point".

    I really like TFL's approach of putting new stations in zone 1 to make travel cheaper. This would never happen here in Prague. Here on the line that passes through one zone, there is one request stop that is in another zone, so if someone goes there, they must have a ticket for two zones, even if they are only passing through.

    I took the 344 bus from Vauxhall to Battersea Power Station on my Tube Challenge attempt rather than do the walk. I did double back from Brixton because after following the Labryinth route in practice it just seemed easier. One thing you mentioned on your video for Uxbridge is the timetable change for Piccadilly line trains in the early morning meaning there are more Metropolitan line trains from Rayners Lane. This does alter the Labryinth route a little bit but it can still be done 85-90% in the same order

    Geoff mentions two more episodes to come - what's throwing me is that there's Wimbledon, Richmond and Stratford to do.. Thennnnnnnnn, throwing a spanner in the works, what about Olympia, Aldgate (Met line) and Waterloo & Bank for the W&C line!! I'll go an sit in pedantry corner for a while :P

    Traveling past Battersea Power Station in the late 60's/early 70's (when it was still an active power station, with smoke bellowing out of the chimneys) I would never have imagined all these years later it would become the terminus of a Northern Line extension from Kennington!! Especially after seeing the thing derelict for all these years! 😂

    We were at Battersea Power Station station over Easter which was great. However it is annoying that they didn't continue the line to meet up at Vauxhall. We needed to get the South West Train from Vauxhall so had to take a bus. Usually that wouldn't matter however we had a pram which makes everything a little more stressful and complicated!!

    It's funny. I was in London last year and was excited to go visit the Battersea development just to see how much they had done (it was still under construction when I was there previously). I do have mixed feelings about this kind of development, but was very impressed with what I saw. The only thing was that I could not locate the entrance to the actual tube station amongst the labyrinth of office buildings. It was either right under my nose or hidden somewhere where I would never find it. I ended up taking an Uber back to my hotel. 😞

    Have you ever been to Singapore? There are lots of stations on their MRT system with the kind of architecture that's at Battersea Power Station and other recent tube stations.

    Is the 10 min walk between station recording the time between platform to platform, rather than between station entrances?

    End of the line for now, i expect this line will be extended at some point in the future to Clapham Junction, would love to see this line extended even further into North Hertfordshire at some point in the future. Love Battersea station.

    2 more End of the Lines to go... Geoff hasn't done Mill Hill East, Aldgate, Hammersmith, Richmond & Wimbledon. Am I either forgetting or missing something?

    Good job on leaving Wimbledon until the tennis is on, will make for some good shots! You have to do Mill Hill East in the context of End Of The Line, it’s the law Geoff. You haven’t completed the series otherwise 😆

    A fun easter egg on Google Maps is that if you look at this station from a distance, it shows Battersea Power. Only if you zoom in further does it show Battersea Power Station. Over the last couple of years, I've been going round the tube network visiting all the stations, and I still have 6 to go (I think, all in zones 7-9). Several labyrinths have been missing on my first visit, like Ickenham and Stepney Green, but I first visited Bow Road in december 2021 and have visited 3 times since to try and get its labyrinth, but it is still missing. I have filled out a form on the TfL website, and they replied to say i'd be notified when it is reinstalled, but nothing yet.

    Geoff, are you going to continue the "End of the Line" videos to the Southern Region ones, i.e. Windsor and Eton Riverside; Shepperton; Hampton Court; Chessington South; Epsom Downs; Tattenham Corner; Caterham; East Grinstead; Uckfield; Hayes, etc.?
