I was watching this string of videos and remarking to myself that one of the things I like about them is you don't torture us with obnoxious music as many do. In fact I very much like the music and find myself smiling and tapping my foot. Then, in the credits, I saw that you wrote it, and no doubt played it. What a plus. I like you personally, I like your videos, and I like your music. Besides all that I'm learning something every day at age 77. Nice job Peter.

Thank you Peter! This is a very informative series. I'm blessed with plenty of space, but vexed by having very little structure for an L or inverted V config. I'm in a 2nd floor apartment and plan to hang one end from a tree with the feed point slightly above it at the house. The antenna -a Nelson EFHW 40-10- just arrived today and I hope to be OTA tomorrow. 73 de K1NKX

Can i ask, for a 40-10M end fed antenna, what's the minimum length of coax?

Good presentation wondering why you've not mentioned grounding the transformer

Hi Paul, there are conflicting opinions on this. My transformer is up in the air and I tried earthing to heating system and to a direct earth. I found no difference but of course the earth connection was a significant length. Using it portable without an earth works fine. Peter

@@watersstanton yeah there is conflicting opinions, I follow Steve Ellington and his testing with this antenna, he has a video with various grounding tests that show how much more current is on the radiating wire with a modest ground, if nothing else grounding would help with common mode current on coax

question , I heard from other sites that if you take a end fed wire ,and run it in a 90 deg or more that it will decrease its effectiveness ??? your view ?

Well normally you bend an antenna because you have no alternative! I doubt there is any change in efficiency, but rather in the radiation pattern. Sometimes that can be a good thing. 73s Peter.

Would it work if I ran the vertical portion of the L attached to an exterior wall? Does it it need to be in free space? I just recently got licensed and live in an apartment. I'm trying to figure ways to make antennas work with the space I have.

I would try and avoid direct contact to the wall. Try and space it around 12 itches from the wall if possible. Maybe a bracket on the wall t bring the antenna away from direct wall contact. 73s Peter.

Hi Peter - with the L shaped antenna would it also work coming horizontally from the transformer unit then turning up vertically half way along the wire. Up a tree for instance.

Can the inverted 'V' shape run horizontal, parallel to the ground or at an angle, instead of vertically?

Is there any advantage to suspending an end fed antenna over a body of water, like a swimming pool?

It's the same as a dipole. The better the ground, the better the results.
