Think the Skipper helming so well in those conditions probably deserved a bit more coverage! But still, great video. Well made and a bit different.

Yes I think you’re right, just didn’t know if he wanted to be in it till I asked him after! But yes he did an amazing job
Love this, sailors are like no other. We're all maniacs 😂
The smile when you said it would be an awesome experience.
That was an excellent video, I felt like I was there😅 you were also MVP on that crew
The greatest danger is probably getting hit by something hard..boom, jib clew etc. Crash helmets should be worn / obligatory in those conditions. You had a big crew…almost too crowded?
It was very random in watching his video to see Jaffa on the helm. Had the pleasure of working with him 15 or so years ago. Thank you for the video. We got to cowes and then were cancelled in the multihull category.

Ha! Jaffa was great, I bet you were doing something cool, from what I’ve heard he’s done a lot of cool work in the past. Shame you were cancelled but probably the right decision!

@@nestorandhisboat Yes. I agree, I think we would have gone and the boat would probably now be on the hard without a mast!
Excellent video of a great adventure ! Aren't you glad you went ? Here's to many more awesome adventures ! Be safe, be brilliant ! 😎

Super glad, probably the best experience of my life!
Well done mate, I did my competent crew in similar conditions which was an interesting (fun) first experience of sailing.
Your editing has gotten super good (gotten? got? my English is rubbish) You know it's going to get real when the Skipper looks nervy. What a ride! Thanks for this movie man. Can't wait until the end of July when I'll be in those waters. If I see you I'll say hi like I said before. I am going to find some money from my college Ramen account to buy you a coffee ! that was epic

Well done. 👏👏 Great experience builder.
After 40 RTI races I missed this one, and glad I did! I've only seen it that rough maybe three times in that time. Exhilarating, but knackering! Well filmed, well edited, and thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

Awesome safety briefing.
Nicely done, the sail and the recording!!
I was just at the cliffs of Dover last week, beautiful place but hot :) Great filming and content, the narration parts were helpful and spot on. Thank You for your hard work and editing, great job!

Superb video and great commentary - really got a sense of it all. My father used to crew for Fasnet and lives on the Island.
Lots of fun to watch, great video
That was a great video. I know from experience that waves look disappointingly small on video compared to the reality and those waves looked BIG!
Incredible work capturing this. Thank you
Incredible,Well done!🎉❤
A good day out. Followed by excited relief 😂

Hi, shacken and slightly stired an interesting days sailing , well done to all who took part on your yatch .😉
Good for you, Nestor. I'm sure your mother was a wreck ... but your biggest fan! Colors of sea/sky were incredible. Sea is part of your blood and heritage. Enjoy but always be careful and vigilant. I know I could not do it. I'll stick to a roller coaster ................
Wow, you take a Ride on the Wild Side😅!

Remarkable achievement, anyone who finished certainly had the ride of their lives.
Well done Nestor! From what I can tell you were the only Sigma 38 to finish
Well done crew
Good job, sailor. Greetings from the Baltic Sea. It's also windy sometimes, although the wave is shorter.
I raced many seasons in a Sigma 38 when they first came out, mostly offshore. Good solid boats. Good job.
Awesome! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
This is so well-filmed and edited. I also got several things from it: 1) Did you maybe have too many guys on board? 2) Don't leave winch handles in the coffee grinders. 3) Did anyone peuk? 4) The start was a disaster perhaps because you hadn't checked the forecast detail - which is why you hit the line well under-canvassed. modern forecast detail tells us when and where it will be windy, and the day's headline max-wind figure is maybe not the important one. 5) Was this filmed on a GoPro camera? Or how? Brilliant work, anyway, and your best video so far. .

Thank you very much Yes we did but we knew this going into it and it was partly my fault! Yes quite a few people puked (some even got on me!) I think we just went on the side of caution more than anything. Yes it was a GoPro. Thanks billy

I had a north force 6 in the Celtic sea and that was pretty scary. Had to fly with it all the to saint ives which has little protection. Force 9 sounds crazy but depends in what waters

Have to agree with Pirrie. No need for a crew that size. More likely to get in each others way than is good for efficiency.
Wow! That was an intense and fantastic video, I should imagine it was quite difficult to get the footage safely. Well done, Nestor for doing this and sharing it with us all. James.

Very cool. I like it when the waves have a long amplitude like these. You wouldn't see this in the Baltic (at least not very often).

@@nestorandhisboat haha, i guess those old seadogs enjoyed having a nice young man on board, and obviousely, you were not there to provide for the 5 o'clock tea. In a side note, interesting how inappropriate some of the shoewear was, especially in case of man over board which luckily did not occur despite the weather conditions and the unsecure crawling over the boat, due to so many people occupying space on deck. What an adventure though!!!
That didn't look like fun to me! What a ride...Glad you made it around. I'd have turned around long ago. I prefer mild 10-15kts.
Well young man that was some race. You all seemed to enjoy it especially you. I look forward to other vids. I bet your dad was glad when you came home safe.
Reminds me of the 2001 Fastnet I did on a Sigma 38. Leaving the Solent in +30kts with three reefs and the No4. Great sailing!

i did that as well in my jong time in 1960 the baots where not szo sofisticate good experience for the juth love it
Great vid! Yet we all wanna see your replies to your dads texts 😂
That was interesting to watch though a bit more info wouldn't have gone amiss. Boatspeed? , who were you all?where did you end in the comp ? , etc etc , you know what I mean. Thanks
Exciting stuff! Looks so much fun. Good test of waterproofs and stomach. I thought the change of headsail a bit crazy, it was definitely too big going up wind, you could see the main flapping continuously. (Main needs another reefing point). But downwind you perhaps needed more, so overall the skipper got it right. Those older design racing yachts are too good down wind, it would have been so much more fun on a modern, wide stern yacht (or even better a multihull) Great footage and commentary. (ps, was it really force9? An 8 is 39-46 knots. Beaufort scale is the average wind speed. And 3m seas? - the most accurate way to assess wave height is to ask someone and divide by three, though it was more than 1m.)
what about that boat at 19:22 min.? Broken mast?🤔 Why isn`t everybody wearing any safety harness and being clipped into some safety ropes? I would think that to be mandatory, but of course I am no expert!
One question from land crab. How do you know how much wind/power the rig can tolerate? It seams to me that one boat got de-masted. I notice that the mainsails were - what do you call it? - reefed. Thanks for sharing.
@markthomasson5077

The rig should be able to stand up to anything, too much and the boat heels over, releasing the pressure

South of the island, the sea looked impressive even on camera so those waves must have been really big in real life.

Far too crowded on that boat. No need for a crew that size in those conditions
No life belts?
make a habit of sitting "b.lls out' . its a lot more efficient and safe

Très très mal filmé !
Typical young male - able to recite potential dangers and possibly even capable of understanding them, but fundamentally stuck in the mindset that he's the hero of his story, and heroes *always* survive. He got through this hairy experience and with some good adrenaline buzzes, so that will only reinforce his gut feeling that he's fricking immortal.
