I live here, and I love the experience. Good to be transformed back in time via these videos.

I've lived in London, Birmingham, Stratford on Avon, Redditch, Weston Super Mare and Bournemouth, none are what they were in 1961 but I'll take Bournemouth over all of them. I consider myself fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.

One of my early childhood memories is a holiday in October 1961 in Bournemouth with my parents. Things that have remained in my mind have been the yellow trolleybuses, the town park with its aviary,. The trolleybuses disappeared ages ago,but I would be interested if anyone can tell me if there is still an aviary in the park. I still sometimes see my parents black and white photographs from the holiday, now digitised and on my computer. However seeing them makes me want to cry, my life had at the time just begun, now I'm old [65] and it's almost over.

It’s still a lovely town, but it’s quite telling how much nicer it would be without all of the traffic.

this is something i keep hearing over and over. its changed so much since i first moved here in 1996. why has the place become such a much downgraded version of its former self. is it the councils doing or are other factors involved. it was such a clean and happy place. now i can go see drug deals done in the gardens in plain sight. sometimes in recant summers I've noticed only that there are hardly any white faces on the beach on warm days. I'm not racist but what is happening. some areas are becoming more like London year on year. what's happening to us. is no one feeling alarmed or I'm i stupid for bringing it up? i suppose i shall be considered a racist for even talking about it. i think Britain is being damaged from the inside out on purpose.

@@harbourwoodlandvisitor2445 my thinking is that if you're white and european you are going to be racist- but it's good to talk about it and think about it and not make it personal or shameful. The main problem is white people who insist they are not racist, they don't see colour, they love different cultures. John Barnes- the footballer - is good to listen to on the subject.

And now the place is heaving with students from every country & should you be aged 40 or older you will feel alienated. It was my place of birth in 1945 & a joy to live there until the 1970's. Now on the VERY rare occasions I visit It's I that feels the foreigner. Together with the dreadful modern buildings overwhelming The Square & suburbs like Boscombe, Pokesdown, Winton & Moordown increasingly run-down & populated by an ever diverse mix many like me have fled.

I’m over 40 and don’t feel alienated. It’s a lovely town, though quite a few whinge bags will have a own, like they do about everything.

I only live here by tolerating my means of living in Bournemouth; nothing much else. The 50's to the 80's were the best times for the town. Present-day 2019/20, I could bring myself to say that over the years it has deteriorated significantly.

Bournemouth was marvelous until the early 80s when lucrative drug halfway houses began to open in Boscombe. After finishing a stint in rehab, rather than send addicts back to their old inner city haunts they sent them to these halfway houses in Boscombe. Of course, those that went back to their old ways did not go home but decided it was nicer by the sea. Walking around Boscombe now is like being on the set of an episode of Shameless. Bournemouth town centre is a cesspit by comparison now. To be fair, many town centres are now full of people with no self-respect and quite willing to beg.

I was in Bournemouth town centre just last week and don’t know what you’re referring to. The library is fantastic and down Commercial Road to the square was really busy and the gardens are still beautiful. BH2 makes it seem almost Mediterranean and I was impressed as I’d not been down for a while. Not entirely sure what your expectations are or if they even exist.
