This feels like a different side to the song. The original reads as exhausted, scared, and desperate. This cover is all the bitterness and anger that being treated this way tends to foster. Neat stuff. *thumbs up*

I understand what you mean by this but you have to think about how Hispanic families and the trauma it brings in Encanto, Alma has trauma from seeing her husband die so she brings generational trauma to her family right? So Luisa being exhausted, scared, and desperate all makes sense which makes the song hit harder. She's exhausted from not being able to relax, she's scared due to not being able to tell her family how she truly feels (which is something that happens to a lot of Hispanic women in families) she's desperate to let her true feelings out and not have to work 24/7. While I respect this song and what it's trying to do the original feels much more believable to me. Anyways I hope you have a great day/night!

I like educating people on Encanto, what's is about, the emotions in it, what certain things mean, etc etc. This person was talking about emotions and how when this person sings it changes the emotions of the original song. I wanted to educate why Luisa sounds the way she sounds during this song, possibly bring attention to what kind of trauma is given to Hispanic families (specifically women). I'mma go one more for you. This is indicative of what any content creator, whether they're just starting out or have been doing it for years, goes through. The mad Irish lad with the voice of a generation, Seán (aka Jacksepticeye) went through this same burnout and pressure cycle over the last couple of years, which is why he dropped from making two videos per day every day to just uploading whenever he felt like it. It is a world of pressure putting yourself out there for others, no matter if it's the first time or the thousandth, and everyone just assumes you're doing it happily, without a care in the world, because it's the face you most often show the world. This song, and Caleb's cover (given his recent meta-commentary on the state of KZread now) is a big rallying cry for content creators on any platform, but also for those of us out there in the offline world who take everything upon themselves for the benefit of others (something I've personally struggled with over the last two+ years, going from a three-person household to a four-person homeless situation, twice in that span, with the birth of our second daughter just before the world lost its collective mind over the plague that shall not be named, and have only recently gotten out of homelessness and started to get things back under wraps). Remember that you are all loved and cherished and beautiful, and that it's okay to shoulder the burdens for those around you . . as long as you let someone, *anyone* who loves you in to help lighten the load from time to time. Take care of yourselves, love yourselves, love each other, and don't let the pressure break you, because you are stronger than you believe, even stronger than the strength you show others. Peace, love, and blessings upon you all. Caleb, keep being amazing, we love you so much. 💕🎶

@@sacysily8968 Thank you for saying all this. I wish I'd heard this (both the song and your words) a few years ago. As someone who lived for over 30 years hating myself and holding myself to standards I could never hope to meet and putting pressure on myself to be better, stronger, more perfect and always falling short, this song SPEAKS to me. I'm on the journey to recovery and self love, but decades of self hate and pressure have done their number on me. But you are right, I'm so much stronger than all that. I survived. I'm surviving. Even thriving at times. Also, I'm proud of you. Remember to take your own advice sometimes. You're not alone. From one survivor to another, you got this! Never give up.

Surface Pressure Lyrics I'm the strong one, I'm not nervous I'm as tough as the crust of the earth is I move mountains, I move churches And I glow 'cause I know what my worth is I don't ask how hard the work is Got a rough indestructible surface Diamonds and platinum, I find 'em, I flatten 'em I take what I'm handed, I break what's demanding But Under the surface I feel berserk as a tightrope walker in a three-ring circus Under the surface Was Hercules ever like "Yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus"? Under the surface I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service A flaw or a crack The straw in the stack That breaks the camel's back What breaks the camel's back it's Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip 'till you just go pop, whoa Give it to your sister, your sister's older Give her all the heavy things we can't shoulder Who am I if I can't run with the ball? If I fall to Pressure like a grip, grip, grip and it won't let go, whoa Pressure like a tick, tick, tick 'til it's ready to blow, whoa Give it to your sister, your sister's stronger See if she can hang on a little longer Who am I if I can't carry it all? If I falter Under the surface I hide my nerves, and it worsens, I worry something is gonna hurt us Under the surface The ship doesn't swerve as it heard how big the iceberg is Under the surface I think about my purpose, can I somehow preserve this? Line up the dominoes A light wind blows You try to stop it tumbling But on and on it goes But wait If I could shake the crushing weight of expectations Would that free some room up for joy Or relaxation, or simple pleasure? Instead we measure this growing pressure Keeps growing, keep going 'Cause all we know is Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip 'til you just go pop, whoa-oh-oh Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt And see if she can handle every family burden Watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks No mistakes just Pressure like a grip, grip, grip and it won't let go, whoa Pressure like a tick, tick, tick 'til it's ready to blow, whoa Give it to your sister and never wonder If the same pressure would've pulled you under Who am I if I don't have what it takes? your cover had me actually holding my breath the entire time, it was THAT gripping and relatable. Then bridge, which tends to be soft and scared and almost sad sounding, you kept strained. I felt that was a more accurate reflection of just how tight the character and the song feels overall, that even when dreaming of something else, it's so out of their reach that they can't relax even thinking of it. The anxiety is still there. Your rendition added heaviness, and I think it really needed that.

As an the oldest sister ( and oldest grandchild among my siblings and cousins) this does resonate with me. Both this an isabela's one because i also always was the " perfect grades" kid . So it was a combination of piling responsabilities on me as the oldest kid and expecting me to always keep my grades and behavior perfect because i was supposed to be the good role model for my siblings amd cousins.

He's just so good, so beautiful good, so godly good, his voice is just pure blessing to my ears, the way he is able to control his tone and mix it so well with the song lyrics and the music, gives me goosebumps each time I listen to something he made. It's just amazing. I have so many feelings in my chest and thoughts in my mind whenever he sings, because of the way he expresses just SO much with his voice. I love it. 💕💕💕💕

Our plate never gets anything taken off only added, and we aren't allowed to rest. This song feels like validation. The best part of the cover is that my husband can finally get into the right key that won't strain his vocal chords or my ear drums lol
