@@TKBay it's a shame not so many devices are using USB 3.1 (my phone uses USB 2.0, for instance, even it's Type-C). Without it only wireless desktop is possible, I believe.

@@RanmaruRei Even the wireless desktop mode needs to at least have wifi 6 if you want to even use it perfectly since it has delayed for slower wifi band that's why Huawei desktop mod only supports to 1080p resolution to get rid of the delay or at least reduce it.

I don't like Samsung Dex mode it's very bad,

DeX is fantastic, I have always wanted a PC that fits in my pocket and goes everywhere with me. I wish Samsung put it on more phones than the S and Note series. If Android Desktop is coming though it will soon be on all android phones.

@@neilcarvalho8349 it's a quite different thing. It's like accounts on your computer or Mac. KNOX on the other hand works like some hidden place. Samsung tablets has this feature, I believe, and you can have upt to 5 profiles. Tbf, phones are personal. You're rarely share them with anyone unlike tablets.

Hi TK. I think your summary was very fair. For specific stuff such as game play, my experience with the latest DEX has been awesome, even with a cheap adaptor. The latest DEX has also gotten better with latency, which is an absolute must for gaming. I use my Samsung phone connected via DEX to a capture device on my main PC and the game recordings are awesome. Cheers, Dave.

Thank you so much for the explaining about the 3 different type of android desktop mode for those phone types. I am a student and trying to find ways to save money and able to utilized desktop like pc envirorment for my school and basic needs. I been searching all over youtube for information about EMUI as well samsung dex and android 10 desktop and you sir explain everything perfectly for me to understand which one I need to go for. I finally made a decision and just got me a samsung galaxy s10 as my main all in one PC. The reason why I got this because I can do everything as I needed for school and basic task online and any tools require but with a learning crave because each OS is different from each other. Now with window 11 coming out and the requirement for the update with the TMP 2.0 crap none of my old PC as well computer can be upgradable. So with Samsung Dex PC like expereience I can do all most everything I require for my needs on the samsung dex and do not have to purchase new computer just to installed window 11 or Mac OS which is another story that I can not afford to becuase Mac or Apple is always too costly for me as a student. Thank you again sir for the data and the information you gave me online threw youtube.

Wonderful video TK. I was wondering if I can use two external monitors with the EMUI mode?

Using Dex as my home desktop for a week. With time, you find the alternatives for somethings that we're a problem in the beggining . I like it very much, it's really practical. The difficult thing is the office, that you have to sign it again to use on dex, even if you already have an account, idk why and it sucks. I'm using an alternative, but it's not that good. Chrome stoped working too, but EDGE is working, and its good to have it, for when the Internet browser is not supported (some times), mainly because it doesnt have a google certification. Besides that, its ok. I miss the select and drag functions with mouse too. Well, in the end, you lose some but you gain some. Some small things need improvement, but if Samsung put its mind on it, it will be incredible. Its perfectly good for a home pc right now (for fun) if you are not lazy to serch for alternatives (some time it takes some time), but for work its impossible (talking as a lawyer, it doesnt have the drivers and digital signature is not supported), but i think its possible to change this soon. As for the google alternative, it would be nice if the cellphone could conect to a screen and just transform it in a chromebook. I think this is possible, dont know why they arent doing it.

Great video! I'm seriously looking into this as a replacement for my Chromebook. The only thing I can't find any information on is the support for extensions in Chrome? Are they supported in the Desktop Mode like they are in Chrome for Windows, Mac, Linux or even Chrome OS? I have a lot of very good extensions I wouldn't want to do without.

صباح Tk Can you you elaborate on the sd card you're using on your V60? Have you seen any improvement in performance using the V90 memory card? Does it support uhs-II? Have you or could you test if a chapter A2 V30 card would provide optimal experience VS the V90 card? I looked into those kingston cards and the V90 ones are not A2 certified for mobile app use. شكرا

For me, the choice between those three is all down to personal preference. I definitely don't mind using all of them as very few Android OEM pay attention to this feature. At this point, I definitely see no need of buying a Chromebook laptop when the phone's chipset is way faster than any cheap Chromebooks with Intel Celeron CPU. Oh btw, I'm glad to see someone like you really pays an attention to this rather underrated feature. To this day, I only see indie tech KZreadrs like you and Juan Bagnell to name just two extensively talking about Desktop Mode. It is definitely a breathe of fresh air for me from popular mainstream KZreadrs' brand loyalism.

Hello can I connect my wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse via the USB transmitter to the MHL HDMI adapter to work on EMUI desktop?

You mentioned that in emui you can control the audio output(phone or tv), if you chose your phone as the output will it work with bluetooth connected buds to the phone or is it only through the phones built in speaker? Great video! Waiting for Android 10 to land on my TIM LG G7 Thinq and give the desktop mode a shot :) Wasn't there Developer option or at least adb command to force all apps to be resizeable? At least some of the early Desktop launchers (like Sentio and so forth) required forcing freeform for all apps. It's something I will definitely try with LG's take of the desktop mode

I'm stupid :D I should've checked some other resource on LG's desktop mode first. The developer option is "Force activities to be resizeable" and should be entry above "Force desktop mode". Could be interesting to see if Netflix and some games would play nice with it (I would expect a lot of crashes from games in particular).

The file explorer is the first thing you are meant to open in a desktop environment!

Great video as always, TK! I have a Huawei Mate 20x and I think the wireless connection is important. Samsung needs to run to follow Huawei. Connect to pc is not necessary, as we use those tools to substitute the pc. Thanks!

You can use the Microsoft Office apps for free as long as you're device doesn't have a screen bigger than 10 inches or so.

Thanks TK this is the comparison I've been waiting for, I have a NexDock 2 and use it with my Note9 and Mate 10 Pro. DeX is superior for me but now Linux on DX has gone I don't feel tied to it. Which brings me to thinkning about getting a V60, if the Microsoft apps and browsing is good then it would do. I'm typing this on my NexDock/M10P btw.

Sentio desktop is a launcher that you can install on any version of Android that supports it and and with display link you can share it to your monitor or TV. Also there's a windows launcher which does pretty much the same thing. I would say that the Sentio Desktop is on a part with Dex.

It might looks like eventually if you connect your phone to a bigger screen it will load windows 10 or something, very impressive to be honest for all of those. I liked both the wired experiences of the Samsung and the wireless of Huawei

Dying to meet google stock desktop mode and Nexdock touch. Dex looks pretty cool with snapping window. But even though I wouldn't use wireless mode for productive tasks like documentation due to delay over wifi and waste of bandwidth, I hope wireless option would be implemented in the future. XD There is a 3rd party launcher on XDA website and the description said it supports desktop mode and resizable window. Is it good enough to replace Dex?

Having a lapdock is a Game changer with desktop supported UI (prefer DeX). No need to have tablet, no laptop, no added VPN, no added hotspot, no battery pack, no added keyboard or case. I do prefer to use a bluetooth mouse. All your needs in one lapdock with your phone. App developers: get on board!

It works. But i think geforce now has a problem with Dex that doesn't remove the top bar completely, so it just makes a black boarder where the supposed bar would be, even though it minimizes it away. And if you don't have a screen that is atleast 720p or 1080p or 1440p. Then if you have 720p res on your phone, but your desktop dex mode is on FHD (since it automatically sizes this.). You'll ether be zoomed out, or zoomed in if you have less resolution setting on your phone. Another problem is Android keyboard shortcuts (This isn't Geforce related. But the Android shortccuts still effect it, Which is stupid.). Space/Shift at same time, or Ctrl space or Alt Space tends to make FPS play games that require clicking both these at same time will freeze your stance. For instance on a dino game i play. Running and pushing space (Shift/Space) at same time, will freeze my running and hault it till i release and replace the shift. But if i push space/shift again at same time, freezes (stops the controls from running.). Still trying to find a way to override these stupid android shortcuts to disable this and allow the Keyboard to function freely.

desktop mode+lapdocks could seriously disrupt the laptop industry since most people don't really need a laptop to do much more than simple web browsing, sending, emails, MS office/Google Suite, sure power users wont be sufficed but for someone like my parents, who only use their computers for the aforementioned features and don't need to spend too much on a windows machine while at the same time using one device at the same time

On Emui Desktop mode, I attached my mate 20 to a 4k tv. Everything looks quite nice. However, apps like KZread force video resolution at 480p max. Also resolution for apps like gallery is lower than max possible. Switching mirroring to "phone mode" allows to obtain max resolution. I also noticed that sound is affected depending on the tv / monitor used. In some its fine, in others it is slower than normal. The same USB-C and HDMI adapter and cable was used

Only if Samsung updated to add wireless Dex on older top range models such as S8, S9, S10, etc I'm sure those older chips are powerful enough to handle Dex.

I love dex and use it often on my Tab S6 that replaced my Surface Pro 4 back then. As a phone I still use my old P10 as it is was the best phone I ever had in my hands and its still... well... perfect and fast, just the battery is now starting to die a bit sooner then at the beginning ^^. However, right now I am looking for something new to replace both of them, and i am really unsure if it should be the S21 Ultra or the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. I would love Dex while i am on the go, but the Xiaomi seems to be a killer when it comes to the Camera and somehow I think it will beat Samsung somehow. But then I would miss Dex... any opinion or Ideas on that? Xiaomi doesn't come with an own Destop Mode so far, doesnt it? The Android 10 Desktop is not what I am looking for... The prosessor on smartphone is getting more powerful but if it's just used on phone is useless the only benefit we got is higher benchmark score. More say you will don't notice the difference in daily use. This the way to implement it.

You mention MHL which I think is a key issue. You mention MHL adapter for connecting a mount and so on. My phone claims not to support MHL but I can use Chromecast. But when I connect it to the TV via a USBc to HDMI it doesn't send the AV across. Does this mean my phone does support it by I need an adapter or does it mean I can't send via a cable. It seems odd that it would support output via smart view but not cable right?

MHL is for wired connection. Iirc, Chromecast is a wireless connection.

Don't know if anyone has answered but it's both... Basically it depends what Version your usb is. 2.0 can't to video out but 3.0 can, but still it would have to be in the firmware for it to be used. But I think android has it built in

There is an indie dev Daniel Blandford making something for ALL Android phones as long as they support HDMI video output which Pixels very much do NOT. I dont see it going anywhere why? Because he already said he needs Google signature plus other things so the apps might run then might not. Companies have developed their own Desktop modes Motorola, Xiaomi, Huawei (warning NO google playstore on Huawei), Samsung and LG (now defunct). Samsung went the bastard way of making it proprietary ONLY to their flagships, don't want to support them at any rate, and what kind of company gives you worse specs on newer midrange phones than the previous model dammit Samsung definitely boycott that company at will. Technology always goes forward and Samsung always goes backwards. We got Motorola G100 which is an amazing phone with great specs but terrible camera, microphone and speakers BUT at least has a headphone jack (no hi-res audio, just standard) and microSD and THAT alone beats ALL Flagship phones out there hands down except Sony 1 Mark IV but none of Sony phones have Desktop mode none. Xiaomi has the greatest potential because they give biggest bang for your buck, if they throw a new flagship it will be unstoppable with their EMUI desktop mode, they still have microSD, hi-res audio, headphone jack and even the elusive Infrared Blaster. I will be looking closely at Xiaomi, Motorola and maybe Sony.

I have a Mate 20. Netflix on Emui Desktop shows black screen with audio and subtitle only; people said this is a DRM issue. I wonder how Netflix works on P40?

Hopefully Google will release this feature with Android 11 so all phone can have it as long as they support screen mirroring! It would also be nice if Samsung, Huawei and Google share the source code just like Android source code is shared!

America apps and systems were removed from Huawei due to a US banning. So They were forced to remove google stuff off their devices. You'll have to do some searching around, But supposedly you can download APK versions to get it back.

LG best features for desktop: Jack audio, QuadDAC, MicroSD, active pen, symmetrical hump, on device (DualScreen) tablet mode (wideview), quickcharge, best haptic feedback, boombox, Google services (+PWA)

LG desktop support touch function. I tried it on a LG G8x with a single usb type c to type cable connected to a 15.6 Uperfect Qled portable touchscreen monitor. The G8x powered the monitor on its own with full 10 point touch support which was impressive. But of course if you wanted to turn up the volume or brightness more it would need to be plugged into a extra power source. Also in my opinion the best overall stylus for the LG V60 would be the Adonit Ink M stylus( not note m) for Surface tablets.

For Dex my experience is, if your app is open in phone then it opens same mode in Dex and needs restarting otherwise it opens in Dex Mode directly. Meanwhile Samsung listened to you and gave wireless experience as well.

Update: dex is now available wirelessly

DeX is indeed Samsung's own Desktop Mode.

Does the V60 do a wired connection? I know LG had dropped it after the V20.

If you don't go into dev mode on your phone. Normally the max bluetooth devices you can have. Is 5. Mouse/keyboard/Headphones is normally all you need. So having other bluetooth devices isn't really needed to go beyond that limit. Dex would be for anyone really. and EMUI is mainly for people of China or eastern states since their app system is been banned and is only limited to their own home brew app store they had to create. So you won't have standard playstore on Huawei's system like you get on Dex. So i'd say Dex would be the best in all aspects.

TK is right in that once your phone is updated to android 10 you will have this feature but some of them will need you to go I to developer mode to turn them on also the phone should also have screen shearing and display output via USB c.. My Nokia 7.1 plus has it. I had to enable it from the developer mode but it does nothing because the phone doesn't have screen sharing nor support display output. But the feature is there.

So EMUI is leaving the taskbar visible even if you fullscreen an app? That is weird

They don't. It's called Video out to a external video capture card. Then the video is sent back onto the Monitor. So the capture card is sending the video to two different locations. 1 to the monitor and 2nd one to a PC that uses a video recording software to record the video coming in. Since these phones can send USB C video out to HDMI,etc. They plug it into a capture card that records that video output.

Dex mode is available in Samsung flagships. Me:. Crying with Samsung galaxy a51

I know this is kind of old but I bought this extension it's kind of like a HDMI USB c Port that I plug into my phone and when I plug it into my TV my LG v50 almost literally turns into a desktop I don't even have to make a a change in the phone

Yes it's pretty awesome. But if your still on Android 10. Sadly they don't have the phone turning off like Dex or their Android 11 version update does. So watch out for OLED screenburn.

Seeing as how I currently own and use a Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Dex is amazing. I connect my phone to my TV, pair my PS4 Dualshock 4 controller to my phone, launch Stadia, and voila....it becomes my game console. Huawei can't do that without the support from Google, so Dex easily takes the victory for me.

They can only do 1. But they all have dual functions. Meaning that the Desktop system is completely it's own thing, while you can still do phone apps at same time. This is why most people prefer the tablet versions with this kinda work, Because it's a larger display and easier to view while doing desktop stuff at same time. (Play a game on the big screen, and watch a youtube video,etc on the smaller screen.).
