Emu's World S2E2 (1982) - FULL EPISODE

Ойын-сауық

Grotbags has a plan involving Rod, Emu, and her brand new cage - but how can she bring all three together in the same place at once? It turns out that paper planes may provide the answer... This episode, which I believe was originally broadcast on Wednesday, 3rd November, 1982, features the songs Ease on Down the Road (from musical The Wiz) and It Ain't What You Do (It's the Way That You Do It) (written by Sy Oliver and Trummy Young, and Rod most likely loved the Ella Fitzgerald version, but of course it was then a recent hit for Fun Boy Three and Bananarama).
So we're now properly into this second series, and Croc is man-size (but child-minded) from this point until the end of the entire run. Very nearly all the fundamentals that we remember from the classic years of the show have fallen into place, but one question mark seems to remain to me: what's the target audience? By the live era, it was supposed to be as broad as possible; the series of Emu's World just before that seems to be aimed squarely at primary school children; but this second series seems to aim slightly lower than that, and at one point - when Rod addresses the viewer directly around 7:06 (a real rarity, incidentally) - even slips into pre-school mode.
Anyway, there are some more nice 80s analogue video effects to marvel at here, with my personal favourite being them boarding the plane. Speaking of old technology, check out Grotbags's camera! It seems to be a subtle running joke that she's always trying to be all hi-tech, but falls short every time, while Rod is perfectly content with his ancient gramophone and that sort of thing. In fact, maybe it's not a joke, but a lesson.
Watching the beginning of this one, I can't help wondering whether an opening skit has been cut for time. Do you get that impression? This isn't the only occasion this happens this series, and it raises the possibility that there's some Rod and Emu sketches on the proverbial cutting room floor somewhere. Other thinks to keep an eye out for include the cast nearly running dry around 11:22, Daniel pushing over one of the twins at 18:42, and Anthony brutally tripping up Hugh at 18:26 (possibly). Oh, and stay tuned at the end for a tiny bit of Watch It! continuity. Just a few weeks to go until Children's ITV launches...
Many thanks to both Jayne and Joe for lending me tapes with this episode.

I just love that you can see the credits smoothly running around the edges of that sign, suggesting they're just a roll of blue paper getting unrolled from right to left. (19:54)

Yes, that's exactly what's happening, how everyone used to do it back then, and also why we still use the phrase "roll credits". If you look _very_ carefully in the background of kzread.info/dash/bejne/gneFstynqq7VeLw.html you can see them being hand-cranked in front of a camera. :-)

This Croc costume is kinda creepy Hehe his mouth wide open all the time and sometimes we can have glimpses of Freddie's head, but well probably it was made this way for obvious reasons. These early episodes feels like a 5 minutes show, time flies. _Ease on Down The Road_ is one of my favorites

Another fantastic episode and one of the few I remember watching! Scary Croc's head isn't the best because we can see glimpses of Freddie Stevens's face in some shots and it doesn't quite match Croc's personality. The Corona kids continue to be stars from the very beginning; they gradually begin to add more and more to the plots of the episode as it seems. The storyline is a classic - Grotbags thinks she has the Pink Windmill gang outsmarted only for her to be outsmarted at the end. And I do agree with you regarding the age group... this series seems to be less complicated and simpler than the succeeding series. Small technical notes - the music hasn't quite been finalized as it seems. The "working" music played in this series and the next is very spot on, while the "beeping" of the intro is different and the the Gloomy Fortress theme is very different (I admit, I prefer this version because of the instrumentation). Also, the picture quality of this episode is slightly better than the individual dance uploads. Looking forward to the rest of the series and more Emu to come. :-)

Yes, there are some points in this series when you can _blatantly_ see Freddie in there. In fact, maybe that's why the costume changed. I suppose they were still refining everything, including the soundtrack. On that subject, I'm going to have to figure out what's going on with the end theme tune: in some series it fades out, in some it has a natural ending, and the length also seems to vary. One for another day, perhaps. Also, it's music to my ears that someone has spotted that the picture quality is better than in the individual dance upload - that's what's been taking so long, so I'm glad it was worth it! Thank you for noticing. :-)

Ahh, so my guess as to why it took a year for the full episodes to come along was correct! I noticed that this particular episode wasn't as grainy, with the colors being bolder than the dance uploads. I also looked at the tape credits in the description and put two and two together. :-)
