I have traveled so many times in Shalimar Train in 1980-90s between Bahawapur to Karachi, Karachi to Multan, Lahore to Karachi etc. It was wonderful, the train was full to capacity always and departed, arrived on time.

I have heard your Comments about Shalimar Express and I Completely agree with you. The Original and main purpose of this Train was to provide Travel between Lahore and Karachi with minimum Time i-e Maximum 16 Hrs, so it was designated a Premium Train to Run on ML-1 Via Chord, this Train Replaced Super Express Started during 1975 on the same Route and Travelling Time. I Travelled in Super Express from Karachi to Lahore during September 1975 and Took hardly 16 Hrs although it was not Double Track ML-1, then twin ALU-18 were Specially Prepared for Super Express because GMU 30 Fleet had not arrived till that time. I have been travelling by Shalimar Express from Lahore to Multan for my Official Visit at Piran Ghaib and Kot Addu Power Plants during 1989--90 in Parlor Car and it made me arrive in 4.5 Hrs at Multan then HGMU 30 were New and used with it, the Fare of Parlor Car from Lahore to Multan was then Rs-175/- I always preferred Shalimar Express over going by Air. This Train and Karakoram both have been badly Smashed, destroyed and damaged with un bearable losses by putting these Premium Trains on Branch Line and these can never be beneficial unless these are Run on ML-1, No of Coaches max 13 and Locomotive AGE 30 OR HGMU 30 Speed 120 KMPH, Travel Time 16 Hrs Then the Occupancy will be satisfactory and Train Efficiency also better.

Vlog as always superb but Shalimar express q k hum apne childhood se is main travel kr rhe hain agr yeh time pr nhi chale to iske chalne ka koi faida nhi last time travel kia Faisalabad pr shuttle train main adjust krdia or is main log single day night travel ki waja se travel krte Hain agr yeh single day main pohunch na sake to occupancy already nhi hogi or Karakorum express k rake ko dekh k lagta hai k usey to premium trains ki counting se hi nikal Dena chahiye, about vlog 👍

Shalimar Express not getting interest from passengers has some reasons. Till mid 2000s, this train used to get maximum passengers and consisted of 13 coaches. At that time, there were seven trains from Lahore to Karachi and out of them Karachi Express was the only one exclusively from Lahore and it had only 3 stops, Khanewal, Rohri and Hyderabad. After Karachi Express, the second fastest train was Shalimar Express. It used to go via Sahiwal and chord line. It departed from Lahore at 6 am and arrival at Karachi was 00:30 Hrs. Other five trains were Tezgam, Khyber Mail, Allama Iqbal Express, Awam Express and Tezrao. Around 2002 or 2003, Karakorum Express was started and it was another night coach along with Karachi Express. Karakorum greatly reduced the charm of Shalimar Express. Now, we have 2 more fast trains during night; Green Line and Pak Business Express. So, total 4 night coaches and one day train Shalimar. Shalimar is much slower than these trains as it goes through Faisalabad and Multan. The route is very long and it is not possible to cover the distance in time due to bad track condition in Sindh. And Shalimar also has 19 coaches now. The only way to make it a successful train is to run it on Sahiwal and chord line and give it priority over all other trains on the route with timely signals so that it reaches Karachi max by 00:30 Hrs. It is very difficult but possible. Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Sadiqabad, Rohri, Nawabshah and Hyderabad can be possible stops. Khairpur can also be added if there is enough passenger load. In the present setup, it will never be successful. It is 3-4 hours late on daily basis. People of Faisalabad already have Karakorum Express, Multan have Karachi Express. So those 2 cities are already catered. And reduce the size from 19 to 13. These are my recommendations rest people familiar with the affairs know best.
