Employment: Finding a job when you have a Disability
Ойын-сауық
One of the biggest obstacles for people with a disability looking for work is simply the fears of potential employers. In this video, employers who have taken on a worker with a disability demystify the process, and showcase the reality - where it's a win-win for both employer and employee.

This is a Tough one because when People apply for Jobs they are Competing against other Job Seekers Usually and the Employer tries to Pick what He or She sees as the Best Fit for the Role!, That means Judging People and a Disability might make doing the Job harder than it should be!.

Problem is it usually doesn't, that's the problem, employers often assume that disabled people are less competent generally, not just in their impairment - for example, most wheelchair users have experienced people talking to people around them rather than to them as they assume the person in the wheelchair is unintelligent.
I have a disability that affects how I comprehend information. I have something called Auditory Processing Disorder. For a really long time I was having so much trouble finding work, I still am in fact. But now that I’m with people who can help people like me find work, at least that might improve my chances. I do still get very negative about it though. My self esteem is at an all time low. I feel like there is next to nothing I’m actually good at.
I am disabled too I am fearful of working in the community. I feel safe in the Mary Haven Facility. I feel I need one to one job coaching.
I have a disability of brain damage. It takes me just a bit longer compared to other people to learn new things. But after I learn something, you can't tell I'm any different from anyone else. I also faint if I get to hot. So I choose not to work outside, and in kitchens. Nobody wants to hire me.

I am sure you will make it
That's great that the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was signed and enforced. Unfortunately, the blind and visually impaired communities across the United States still faces the highest rates of unemployment, poverty and homelessness. About 70% to 83% of blind and visually impaired people are currently unemployed. Around 1 in 4 of these individuals are homeless. The ADA law has made significant impacts on certain groups but not others. Regardless of education level and job skill level, we blind and visually impaired folks still face huge negative prejudices and stereotypes from employers when it comes to employment.

@ls7orBust2 Not all blind people are useless. I know lots of blind people who have careers, own homes, have families pay taxes.and are productive citizens. Don't assume that all blind people are useless.

@ls7orBust2 You don't know anything!!! So, you to need to shut the hell up!!! Someday you're going to say it to wrong person. You never met a person with a disability. I have disabilities myself and I work full-time and own a home!!! Stupid ignorant sighted folks!!!
Heres a job: Someone should design and make a folding desk/market stall which attaches to a mobility scooter or cargo bike so the disabled can drive to the local market and trade crafts without needing a helper.
I had polio on my right leg when I was 11 months old, it never bothered me as I did a lot of stuff and sports like taekwondo for 10 years, I was riding my bicycle, swimming, walking very long distances without any problem, and I started to work at a very young age (12 years old when I got my first job as a car mechanic apprentice); I have done different types of work, last one I was the site cleaning manager for a cleaning company at the same post for 25 years, then 6 years ago something called "post-polio syndrome) started to take a toll on me, I started to lose the little strength I had in my right leg, I had a lot of falls, in some of them I chipped off my right elbow when I landed on the floor, also I split open my chin when I fell on the ground facing down, and the last fall I had I dislocated and fracture my right shoulder; then the company decided I could no longer fit in my job as I had to take time off constantly due to pain in my knees and severe exhaustion that comes also with the post-polio syndrome, and I was made redundant; it was 3 years ago, since then I have tried really hard to find a job, something I can do in an office, I have joined organizations like Scope, charity job, and monster jobs so I can find employment, but so far nothing; I get to the meetings and interviews but that's it, I never hear from my potential employers even though I can do the job advertised on their website, and at my 58 years old now and with my leg and walking deteriorating more I think I won't get a chance to work again. this is the reality for people with disabilities, despite I am positive and still sending CVs everywhere, deep inside I know I won't get any chance to be employed.
Lol in America disabled individuals are forgotten about, swept under the rug whereas they hire LGBT people like crazy. I’m a college graduate, haven’t been disabled my whole life but after I bring up my disability they’re like *next*! It doesn’t matter how many certifications I worked my ass off to get, what my 4.0 GPA says about me...It’s really hard. I’ve been through 100+ F2F interviews, and even more phone interviews this last year. I’m on the brink of becoming homeless so I decided I’m going to have to work at a gas station and create my own company.

I have physical disabilities, a Canadian, in Canada employers do not want to pay people with physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities which means most of us live in deep poverty, I hope these individuals are getting a paycheque.

Well, I think my boss (let's call her Karen) is upset with me. To give you context for the introduction, I have a learning disability that affects me at work. It's very easy for me mix up instructions or the concrete things I see, and I often struggle with understanding things and need clarification. An example is the time I put black linens on the tables for the upcoming wedding reception, not white ones; I'm just so used to black linens for other (and more common) types of services and events, it didn't cross my _conscious_ mind that we in fact use _white_ for wedding receptions (which, as stated, are rarer). Honest mistake really, but she questioned me and implied it was my fault for signing up for a shift where there was no one to guide me. Well, now it was my coworker's (let's call her Olivia) turn. She has dyspraxia, and despite working with us for two months in a half, she still struggled with brewing coffee and setting up tables for fancy dinners. Our boss was firmly all, "you should know how to set tables and brew coffee by now; I mean, you've been here for more than four weeks. If you're not sure you know what you're doing, just ask." After she left to go on some delivery, I said to Olivia, "Hey, don't let Karen get to you. Karen struggles with understanding the difficulties of those with learning disabilities. [I pat her shoulder]. Just try your best to be patient with her, no matter how she reacts to your _innocent, honest_ mistakes. You're not at fault for anything" Then I turned around and saw Karen, who had come back to get extra cups. Yep. She heard what I said. How far would you guys say I went?
