Employee Update, 6-17-24

Hey, Team Carlsbad, hope everyone had a great weekend. This week is the official start of summer. And one of the things that I really want to encourage you all to do is make sure and take the time off so that you can come back to work feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. Be able to tackle all the incredible work projects that we have in the city.
So I want to start by recognizing all the departments involved in the last week's emergency water main break. It was truly an all hands effort, ranging from multiple Public Works teams to Police, Fire and of course, our Communications team. In the spirit of no surprises, they were quick to notify the team and community members the impacts exemplifying the collaborative effort of our one Team Carlsbad approach. Special thanks to Utilities for taking the lead on repairing the pipeline and Street and Storm Drain Maintenance on repairing the damage around the area to keep our community safe.
Now another shout out goes to Housing and Homeless Services for their continued commitment to making homeownership accessible. Hats off goes to our Affordable Housing Program Manager, Erin Peak, who's navigating the real estate world and working with our City Attorney's office to get those units sold and resold to qualified people on the city's waiting list.
Now, with National Trails Day earlier this month, our Parks and Rec staff teamed up with the community to hike the picturesque Rancho Carrillo Trail While sprucing it up along the way, trail program coordinator Sarah Czech administered the National Trails Day Pledge to volunteers before the hike and filled everyone in on the history. Staff also taught attendees about the history of the Rancho Carrillo Trail, which wraps around the historic Leo Carrillo Ranch Park. Thank you to our Parks and Rec team for working alongside the community in our efforts to make good on City Council's five year strategic plan goals of community, character and environmental sustainability.
Now, last week, City Council declared June LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. in recognition of Pride Month, here's a presentation you can attend this week hosted by our DEI committee. It's imperative that all people that live, work and play in our community, regardless of orientation or gender identity, feel valued, safe, empowered, and supported.
Well, that's it for me this week. Take care. Be kind to one another and I'll see you again real soon.
