    I disagree in that I think the director was absolutely right to cut and NOT show the reaction shot. Because the entire thing is about a character affirming who they are. Even within the monologue, they specify the real villain was their own sense of shame or self-loathing keeping them from living life. You don't show what the others respond with whether it's "We're so sorry" or "Ugh, whatever" because the point is that what other people think doesn't matter. By showing a reaction shot, it shifts the focus of the scene to whether they accept or reject the assertion of the speech, but it's not relevant to the story: the scene isn't about their acceptance, it's about self-acceptance.

    I just realized today that the director of this series has been holding X spaces after each episode to talk about the production.

    From my perspective, the theme of this show has been "learn to love yourself." That does not mean "come to accept yourself for who you are," but rather, "grow into a version of yourself that you can love." In that regard, each of the main cast is at a different point along that development: JELEE is only now beginning to make that change; Yoru has been making that change all throughout the show; Kimura finished that change prior to the show's beginning, and Nox was already that person from the beginning. Since the latter two are already the person they love, their conflicts tend to be more external than internal; in Kimura's case, her primary struggle came from reconciling her own parataxic distortion of "Nono-tan"-a belief that had saved her when she was at her lowest point-with the real-life person of Yamanouchi Kano, who is nowhere near as flawless. In Nox's case, the conflict is on a wider scale. The persona of "Ryugasaki Nox" is, to the person inside, an idealized self, more true to their being than can be achieved by their meatspace avatar. The problem is that society at large-and in a more cynical lens, reality as a whole-is dismissive of this idealized self, and latches onto the identity of "Watase Kiui" as a means of discrediting and denying "Ryugasaki Nox." In truth, Nox and Kiui are the same person, but because the people who know them as Kiui won't let them be anything _but_ Kiui, it causes Nox to reject this part of themself-and this is the conflict that needed to be resolved in this episode. The answer they reach, then, seems to be that regardless of what anyone else insists on the matter, "Watase Kiui" is _not_ the end-all and be-all of their identity, and they're _done_ feeling like they're doing something shameful just by being themself. Nox is Kiui, Kiui is Nox, they like who they are, and anyone with a problem with that can go heck themselves.

    A fantastic episode for both Kiui & Mahiru. It's perfectly fine to love yourself the way you are.

    I think it's interesting how she loudly declares herself to be Nox, but when she does so, she says Watashi, even though Nox says Boku.

    Near the end Kiui used "Ore"(super masculine pronoun) a couple times though. Kiui started with watashi but then switched to ore to really hammer in the point.

    I mean, while there seems to be a suggestion that Kiui identifies as male to a certain degree, its basically confirmed that they're non-binary or gender fluid. Identifying as both male & female. So they use male & female first person pronouns.

    @@WinterGirlRules Source?

  • @TempRF

    @TempRF

    Ай бұрын

    @@noobrock1232 The source is the episode itself. Kiui starts with "Watashi"(neutral personal pronoun but the default for women 99/100 times) then starts using "Ore"(VERY masculine personal pronoun) during the speech in the episode. So the character was literally going from the female personal pronoun to the male one in the episode as they talked about themself. The fact "Ore" was the one they choose at the end/the one they settled on implies they lean more masculine. Its not something easy to translate unless you know what those words mean and how they are used.

    I hope this has a second season if the last episode doesn't close all the narrative treads. I also want a second season for Girls Band Cry, this series is criminally underrated in the West because of the whole "no licensing" issue, but that's another topic.

    I think Kiui’s art is technically amazing, but kind of soulless. I think all her talent is waiting for her to find real inspiration. Maybe a new arc in a hypothetical second season would be an explosion of Kiui’s creativity and fully coming into herself.

    So it would seem like Kiui's body was growing into a mature lady. If she acted normal like other people, she could be a sexy girl being adored by everyone. However, that's not how she sees it. She wants to remain the superhero she imagines herself to be. She wants people to look at her not as a sexy, hot girl but a hero of justice. I really liked how she finally got the courage to say to everyone how she really felt about herself and that she won't change who she is. What will Kano sing? Who will it be for? I'm eagerly waiting for the last episode.

    Good on Kiui for staying true to herself. I always say as long as you are not embarrassing people who know you by committing a crime and getting caught or trying to take your own life, and dragging those you know into the mess. You are technically normal.

    There is one part about this that I think is intriguing when you have an anonymous personality online that you're trying to be something that's different than you are you the same person or are you a different person is definitely a question that view shows ever seemed to address but I worry that people are going to try to Virtue signal off of this as if this was just a gender thing when it was much more than that

    Series almost over but I couldn't get used to it, that feeling that maybe too many hands wrote this industrial sausage. While I "agree" and like the fundamental dramas e character arcs, there's always some bit that feels contradictory. For example, very obvious in this episode on the Mahiru part, the drawings she first delivery to Yukine were not in her usual style. Did you noticed that the "suggestions" Mahiru received were asking to make it more on her usual style? It's hard to me to accept that Yukine didn't demanded Mahiru to throw away what she had made on their first meeting, after all, that was not what the production had asked Mahiru do make. Oh, correction, not "Mahiru", Yukine actually hired Yoru from JELEE. In the end the "drama" was solved when Mahiru delivered what she should had always delivered. I'm not criticizing all the drama e character arcs, it's just all gets muddle with there strange bits. Same goes to Kiwi in this episode and everything else. Talking about Kiwi and her body, I don't believe "she is trans". She may be a character that trans people may identify, but I think this is not what was happening with her. To me it seems like her chest is like her body forcing her and reminding her to "grown-up" against her will. She still wants to be that little kid with big and fantastical dreams that the people around her just don't care. People noticing her body is the same as people noticing that she grew up, became "adult" while her inside if refusing to accept this. Being who she is and what she likes is, in her mind, incompatible for her age in this society, that's why she had to shout that she is still the same.

    It's the opposite. Her initial song was for the Yoru who inspired her on that one Halloween night. Her new song is for the Mahiru she's spent almost a year with, & has grown to know more intimately. It's a much stronger love song for her. At least, that's how I interpreted it.
