Love this song. I think your emotion to this song is wonderful. You have a tender heart. When my Dad was nearing then end of his life, he asked me to sing this song at his funeral. I stopped and looked at him and said "um... no" I knew I wouldn't make it through this song alone, so my two adult daughters sang it with me. We stood at the pulpit with our arms around each other, and it was perfect. We were blessed.

It is good for what it is, but it is recorded on a phone, so it is limited. However, that they chose to go and sing like that for fans that were run out of the amphitheater by a thunderstorm speaks volumes for their character.

Just as little friendly advice, always let the Home Free videos run to the end, they often leave a message or a funny nugget at the end of their videos, they talk to their Home Fries often about the message of each song. They can do stunning vocal arrangements like this, they can do funny and goofy, and they don't confine themselves to a genre, they lean country, but do all manner of genres (wait til you hear them sing opera!).

This song is a special treat because all five are singing. The man who sang "It is Well" is one of the world's best beat boxers/vocal percussionists, but rarely sings. Hearing a song like this makes one wonder why he is reluctant to do so.

The main bass singer in this group is Tim Foust. He has a 5 octave range so he can go as high and as low as anyone you've ever seen. If you like their sound I suggest you watch their appearances on a television show called "Sing Off" that introduced them to a national audience. You can find them on KZread by searching Home Free Sing Off, get the ones that have the judges comments; I promise you won't be sorry!

Your reaction and comments were spot on for me. This masterpiece was filmed in Austria when they were in Europe for a conference. Others will fill you in on the particulars. I have had the pleasure to see them in concert five times so far and will definitely go again whenever they have a show within range (about 400 miles so far). They are genuinely nice guys and never disappoint with the performance. The group started in the early 2000s and won season 4 of the Sing Off in 2013. There has been one personnel change since then when Adam Chance replaced Chris Rupp. They sing every genre and have a great time performing great arrangements of both covers and originals. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

They did this video in the Austrian Alps on their way home after the covid shutdown made them have to leave their European tour. You are not the only reactor that was brought to tears with the beauty of this rendition. The brief bit of "It is well" was a rare treat for fans of Home Free. It is notable as the first solo bit from the beatboxer, Adam Rupp, who has a beautiful tenor voice. We get to hear him sing harmony, but usually, he does the vocal percussion and beatboxing exclusively. Adam is the one original member of Home Free. With his brother, Chris, they created the group we know as Home Free. Others will fill you in with lots more information.

The guys are wonderful people individually and as a group. They have great chemistry, great taste in music, are all fine musicians. Their sound and overall vibe is organic, true to nature while making great art. Two favorites: their collaboration with Kenny Rogers, Children Go Where I Send Thee, and their recent release, Stand by Me.

The first Chance lead I heard melted me-“I Can’t Outrun You “- 5 part harmony, hauntingly beautiful and Chance directed the video. I believe they are Heaven sent, their vocal blend is so gorgeous. I always feel better when I listen to them.

Wonderful reaction and a beautiful song to begin with. There was no beat boxing in this arrangement and it was very appropriate. You are going to be stunned by the beat boxer once you explore their huge library of songs and videos with a touch of all genres. I think those of us who have preceded you in this rabbit hole found the same as you....the first song captured one's admiration, awe, and wonderment. You will not be able to go wrong on any song they do...any cover, any hymn, and silly song, any original. Those of us who have fallen in that rabbit hole and continue to fall are referred to as Home Fries. I guarantee if you do more of their songs, your channel will grow. We are on the edge of fanatical!!!!!! They are very humble and just seem like good folk.

Yes, welcome to Home Free, all acapella, no instruments at all. This was filmed in the Austrian Alps, close to where the "Sound of Music" was filmed. They do have a way of picking settings that match up with their songs. Masters of all musical genres. They won the 4th season of the Sing Off in 2013. Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. All of them can sing lead and they choose depending on whose voice best fits the song. The group consists of Adam Rupp (beat boxer), Rob Lundquist (Tenor), Chris Rupp (Baritone, he left the group in 2016), these three are from Minnesota, Adam Chance (Baritone/Bass Who replaced Chris in 2016) from Alabama, Tim Faust (Bass) from Texas, and Austin Brown (High Tenor) from Georgia. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. For a live performance, check out their "Sea Shanty Medley" live video. They did the original Sea Shanty Medley during lock down and it went viral. Ubisoft even asked them to write an original sea shanty for their game Skull and Bones, based on hearing their medley, (and they did). I think their live performance is even better than the original video. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. You are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.

Home Free is simply amazing and for me the number 1 A-cappella group. Five great voices, each with their own specialty. The best harmonies From Left to Right: • Adam Chance(called Chance)-Baritone/bass with a voice so smooth and sexy with a slightly raspy edge. Performs alternating bass with Tim (bass 1) •Austin Brown-High tenor with a voice so powerful and with great runs. •Tim Foust- Bass, but can reach ranges from high to low. •Rob Lundquist-Tenor, with a voice as soft as silk, so soulful, but oh so versatile. A great whistler. •Adam Rupp- Beatboxer/vocal artist. What he can do vocally is simply non-human. Coincidentally, he doesn't show it in this song. Here he sings a very small piece of solo, which he rarely does, even though he has a good tenor voice. He started Home Free in 2000 with his brother Chris Rupp and three others. Over the years, a few members left and were replaced. Rob joined in 2008, Tim in 2012, but had already participated once in 2010. Austin came in 2013. That year they also participated in the Sing Off and won. In 2016, Chris left the group to work on his solo career and other projects (including 7th Ave with sister Tristin). He was replaced by Chance. By the way, they can all beatbox, which is also demonstrated in the live performance of the song 9to5. But how beautifully they sing this song, for me the best performance. They show that music is emotion. Even my mother (86), a true Christian, often asks if I want to play this. Because in addition to that great singing, this is of course also a video in a wonderful scenery. Follow Home Free and you won't regret it. Because even though they officially do country, they can really do all the genres. Suggestion: (starting with) "Man Of Constant Sorrow", "Ring Of Fire", End Of the Road", Brothers in Arms", "Stand By Me", "Colder Weather" 😊

Unexpected progressions and resolutions are a hallmark of HF arrangements throughout the years. Even without the visual, this is a masterpiece. No one trying to prove how "powerful" they are, no unnecessary flourishes - just beautiful 5-part harmony. If you'd like to see them do this 'live on stage', try one of these (search for) "Home Free HOW GREAT THOU ART Live from the first row" or "How Great Thou Art / It Is Well. @HomeFree Greeneville, TN NCAP". People are recommending the off mic ones in Kearney, but most of them are terribly lopsided in sound. The best one is "Home Free: off-mic HOW GREAT THOU ART" recorded by Ingrid Perkins, which was recorded basically from behind them. Their ability to just get up on a table in a thunderstorm, no mics, no ear pieces, just a pitch pipe and do this is really stunning. HF is a remarkable group, they cover songs from this to a medley of "butts" songs and everything in between. Enjoy the rabbit hole.

Someone already mentioned the professional live recording of their Sea Shanty Medley, and there are a lot of fan recordings from concerts etc including "Working 9 to 5 with beatbox breakdown" but as to THIS song there is a youtube video of them performing this song at a concert that was rained out due to a storm. These guys are so humble and good, that they gathered with fans under an overhang and sang 1 song because they didn't want the fans to go with nothing....they sang this live..no mics....totally acoustic. kzread.info/dash/bejne/haOKqLKvoJu8mJc.html

Loved your discovery of Home Free and your moved reaction! I'd suggest 'My Church' for a similar energy with beatboxing added. 'Man of Constant Sorrow' is a good introductory one to get to know their individual talents. They are even better live in concert IMO! There are very few professional live recordings of them though you'll find a flood of cell-phone footage that can't quite capture their sound. For a live performance reaction, I would actually suggest anything from the sing-off (a competition they won) along with the judges comments to start. A newer live recording is the 'Sea Shanty Medley live'. Glad to discover your channel!

You’ve been struck by the Home Frew bug! It is contagious, but it’s a good bug! It will make you feel better when you’re down and out, physically down, or even when you’re feeling great, it will brighten your mood even more! This is a fan favorite and one of their best, but there is no bad Home Free cover or original! They are even more incredible live! These guys are down to earth, funny goofballs at times, but each one is so talented! They consider themselves country a cappella, but they have a unique style all their own. They’ve covered many genres of music including Rock, Pop, Gospel, Patriotic, Folk, and two even did an opera song. Tim Foust's bass really carries the song. I found Home Free 3 years ago & love these 5 talented guys. Their harmonies are the best in the business. This is one of the few songs where you get to hear Adam Rupp's (beatboxer) sweet tenor voice during "It Is Well". I have seen them in concert three times and they sound just as good live as they do in a studio recording. The music always comes first, you never see any hints of ego. New subscriber. Great reaction, too! I love it when people discover Home Free. They are a freakishly talented group of fellas that excel in all music genres. They can make you laugh sometimes, they can make you cry sometimes but they always impress. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, American Pie featuring Don McLean, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, Dive Bar Saints, The Driver, Crazy and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone and Ray Stevens' Mississippi Squirrel Revival. For some serious ones: Don't Laugh At Me, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful. They have recently released several new songs that you will want to check out. Unchained Melody, Listen to the Music, Brother and Stargazer Lilies trilogy: Give Me A Sign, Stargazer Lilies and Mr. ...Their latest releases are Might As Well Be Me, Playing With Fire, Remember My Name, Oh, Pretty Woman, Cruise, Stand By Me, Colder Weather and Life is a Highway. To switch it up..try Two Country Singers try singing Opera. Adam Chance just wrote the theme song to Ubisoft's new Pirate themed video game, Skull and Bones and Home Free performs it. The video is in the Austrian Alps. They are just as gifted in a live performance as they are in a video. Long before they made videos, they made their living traveling and working 200 days a year, giving live performances at different venues. If you want to see some of their live performances, you can see their performances on The Sing-Off, an acapella competition show, on season four. It's on KZread. They unsurprisingly won the competition. Home Free has continuously improved since those performances on The Sing-Off ten years ago. They made new versions of The Sing-Off songs for the tenth anniversary of their performances recently. Of course, the new versions were studio versions. Still, people who have been to their live performances say their live performances sound just like their videos. Home Free is labeled primarily a country acapella group, but they can and do all genres of music. They are engaging unassuming down to earth guys who work endlessly on their art. They can sing like angels or even a church organ. They can sing uplifting songs, goofy songs, country songs, R&B, opera, and so forth. They made videos even during lockdown, helping their fans through the ordeal.

Jumping right into the deep end of Home Free, eh? Buckle in and enjoy the ride. Somehow these guys didn't fall onto my radar until about a year ago. Since then, I've seen them live twice. In my 60 years on the planet I've seen dozens upon dozens of amazing concerts, but I don't think any have been as much fun as Home Free. Others have already suggested the live version of their Sea Shanty Medley that HF recently released on their channel. I'd agree 100%. It's a clean professional recording, and a great next step. Welcome to the Home Free party. Best a cappella group out there, I think. Hymns are not my thing, but this brought me to tears the first time I heard it, too. Fabulous arrangement by Darren Rust, who does most of their arrangements as well as producing. They call him the 6th member of the group. Master class in 5-part harmony. They have a very deep and varied catalog - everything from country to pop to rock to R&B to sacred. The 2 tenors even did Nessun Dorma. A couple of suggestions for next time: Helplessly Hoping, Stand By Me, Playing With Fire (an original co-written by Austin Brown, their high tenor). But, really, you can't go wrong with anything on their list. Enjoy the ride!

You are going to love these guys! They've been around doing the "show band" circuit for about 23 years now. They won TV's A Capella show, "The Sing-Off" in 2013 where they became known as the only "country" A Capella group but believe me, they can do anything. They like to surprise their fans and have a great sense of humor. They like each other, and don't take themselves too seriously. Yes, you can find videos of them singing live and fans say they are great live. They were started by two brothers in college. One of the founding brothers left the group around 2016 or so just to do some things on his own. The other brother is still with the group, and is one of the best beat-boxers you will ever hear. They wrote all the songs on last year's album. Two did a tremendous job 'trying" to sing opera. One wrote a pirate video game theme which the group sang. They have a 5-octave range base singer. Their videos are done well and they try to keep them coming out about every two weeks. They tour the USA and over seas. The video above was done while in Austria. etc. etc. Love the group!
