I used to know a kid with bad autism and bad ticks. He was the sweetest. We had a school play back in the day, and he was my dance partner. Such a nice kid. His mom liked me, my mom and him were so nice to each other, and every other kid loved him. The only problem was that his para was mean to him. When he didn’t do something right away, or ticked, she yelled at him to do it or stop yelling. It was his ticks, he couldn’t hold them back! She was mean to the rest of us too. There was a really nice para too though, that helped him most of the day. But when she was sick was the worst. The kid loved everybody, so sweet, thought of everybody, and his mom was so nice. VERY kind family, and he didn’t deserve to be yelled at.. he went to middle school, and I’m schooling from home, but next year I get to see him again. My best friend also loved him and she’s sad she’s going to a different school. But I’m just happy he doesn’t have to deal with this para anymore

Ah this breaks my heart. Still to this day parents are offered the option of adoption, or if they are tested prenatally, to abort children with downs syndrome. From health professionals - people you often blindly trust to know what the right decision is! It's appalling when people with downs sydnrome are able to lead such fulfilling and whole lives! It is a SYNDROME not a death sentence. There are so many supports available for even more critical and life threatening conditions and this is how we treat people who grow up to go to school, work, fall in love and have children of their own!

When my 11 yr old little sister was born, we didn’t know she had DS until she was born. I had a lot of mixed emotions. I always knew of people with DS but I was never educated. My main worry was when she started school, her well being, eyes starring, EVERYTHING. I was stressed thinking how am I ever going to teach her about life but all along she was the one that taught me about life & continues. Her purity, innocence & contagious laughter washes off all my worries I could ever have. From the moment she was born & carried her, a maternal instinct was born in me to look after her (I have no kids yet). I’d give my life for her. She’s my beautiful angel that brings peace & serenity to my life. She’s my world.

Doctors and specialists are unsure what is causing her multiple disabilities. My daughter is only 3. Our society has become more inclusive, understanding, and loving towards special needs children and adults. What a wonderful family. They so deserved this. It hits home as my younger brother has Downs Syndrome and 6th stage dementia. He was active in special Olympics for years, but our parents were in their mid 40's when he was born. I was 12 and I declared him mine. Even after I married, we didn't do anything without Alan. He was & is my #1 priority. I'm 69 & have slowed down a bit with my own medical issues, but as long as I have breath, I will be here for my forever fella. What this large group of people did for this family, and especially for JoJo, will be blessed beyond measure. God bless you all.

Jo Jo is a gift from God. He seems to love unconditionally. He is lucky to have all you guys as a family, but you guys are the luckiest family in the world to have him as your son/brother. You have done a wonderful job raising two wonderful loving sons. Him and his brothers relationship is so special. You should be very proud of both them. I cried at his reaction to his new back yard, it was the most special surprise for him. He is the sunshine in the world.

I think it is a good question. Just look at how much power that gave the parents for a lifetime. Knowing that they were given a chance to make life more easy for themselves but they chose love. I do not have down's syndrome but , i was adopted. Something to be said , when a family says " no we will keep him"

Not all cases of Down Syndrome are happy like JoJo's - every case will vary. Unfortunately, there are some people with severe intellectual and development complications, and not every family will have the resources to be able to give their child the best life possible.

Back in the 60's, when my brother was born, they didn't even call it Downs Syndrome. They called them mongoloids. The staff offered to arrange putting him in a "facility." I can see my mom telling that staff where to put their arrangements. I was 12 at the time but I took over every aspect of raising Alan. I was his big sister & I was & still am so proud of him. I'm thankful my own children understood that Alan was a priority in my life. They didn't want to do things without him. The circus, carnivals, movies, trick or treating, fireworks:you name it & he went with us. He is my ❤.

I’m so grateful they saw the baby birdies in the nest...before they took that tree out! Before you rip out any trees or do any landscaping of any kind make sure that there are no dangerous things around most importantly and most importantly make sure that there are no babies in nesting, and little critters indigenous to your place in life and land! Whoever born with speciality is giving people opportunity make good. Because those people were like angels from god. We don't need to be sad. We must be happy about them. They are stronger than us. Their love is pure. If they get angry, it will disapear in a second.
