Civil wars are vicious because people reserve a special hatred towards other people who are similar - but different. Around 45 years ago I watched Robert Kee's extensive television history of Ireland and he interviewed pro and anti veterans : right into the 1930s private scores were being settled on both sides. I understand the " free state" only became a republic in 1949.

In these shows I see a re-occurring theme of 'I have this personality trait, and now I know I INHERITED THIS PERSONALITY TRAIT from so and so". This is an interesting topic that has solid backing with scientific studies. We can inherit personality traits, emotions, trauma, and general memory of how to survive in this world from the DNA of our parents. I remember an experiment where they took eggs from the cold north (where food was scarce) and the warm south (where food was plentiful) of the same species of bird and hatched them in a lab. They presented the birds with a simple food puzzle. The birds from the south (where food was plentiful) could not figure out the puzzle. The birds from the north (where food was scarce) were able to figure out the puzzle, implying they were born with a survival instinct belief that "You can find food, but you will often need to work for it".
