"took it to church!" yes and Emmet is Jewish. sure speaks to how universally spirtual this music and these musicans are.
It’s funny listening to these young guys cause you can hear bird and you can recognize all the chops from other tunes but I’m grateful that they’re keeping the tradition going it’s so important.

I think bird just opens your ears like not many other musicians. Nothing wrong with paying homage to the Godfather and still getting inspired from him 80 years later. It’s easier to pick up a tenor sax and play less like bird. But that alto will talk to you. Hard not to hear him. Just what happens for me anyway. Keep it alive though I agree!
These guys are already legends.... Man it's so freaking good!

0:48 nice quote!!!! awesome tone Mr. Bartley.
It is great to feel and hear that we have these jazz heroes now creating so much magic. Awesome version. Thanks for the joy of hearing you play!!
One of my favorite tunes ever. And this rendition is so awesome.
I'm not sure but I think that's a 'Four' quote at 4:43. Really nicely done👌👌👌

Sure is. But it's not like Emmet was saying "Hey, look at this!" The way these things work is that you play something so much that it just comes out. Then you say "Oh, I guess that just happened :-)" Especially on songs like this that share chord changes.

@@jorymil That's very true, I was listening to The Consouls and commented on a quote then their sax player said he didn't realise until he listened afterwards to his solo what he'd done!

wow - a ton to digest on this one! Delicate tune but supremely complex. The interaction/listening going on between the musicians is outstanding...textbook empathy needed to play this great music. love it!
Simply killin’!
love these guys wow !!!
Thank you for the music :)
Congrats!!!! Wow.
Amazing!!!!!
Wow, Emmet! Awesome playing! Can't wait to see you in Halifax, NS Canada in July :)
The definition of the the feel is incredible. Great job!

ありがとうございます!
These guys are such incredible craftsman of an amazing and incredibly challenging art form. Plus they swing, hard 😉!
yess
Sound quality is amazing I've played in a church before and the acoustics are very nice
Awesome
Wooooooo!!
Musicos incriveis. Viva o Jazz, Viva a Musica, come to Brasil. ; )
How high the standard of this playing! EC3 + PAB = 💯
Maravilha!!!
“Mona Lisa” quote at 5:30 :)
Yeah. 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Dddddaaaaaayyyyyuuuuummmmmm!!!!!
They deserve a larger audience. Hopefully they got paid a lot. Baroque Jazz Club in a church? Well it is how it is in the U.S. I guess. And the community pays I hope.
Hippest church ever
Thank you for the music! What else is there to say?
barry harris jjajaaajja, nice emmet
🎷❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That Four lick was nasty!!!
The concert was in a holy place so the audience was respectfully asked not to groove to the music in any noticeable way.

@@elidranow Good acoustics, and a lot of churches open themselves up to public performances. Two churches in SF do this.
I never saw a jazz club with church pews and and pulpit until today.
Interesting placement of piano and drums.The music was great anyway!
Why do they mike the bass drum like that? Ported hole of course but... 😔
Has to be an Anglican or Episcopalian church you guys were playing in right?

You'd think... But no, it was a Catholic church in Miami. :\

@@tail_recursion9506 yeah, not quite sure what I think about Catholic Churches hosting this being a Catholic myself. I did see a Beethoven string quartet candlelight concert once and I enjoyed it tho.
@tail_recursion9506

@Tony wallens Yep. I guess the "point" is that the church is spreading beauty in the form of music. But it's still unnerving--I think the difference in your example is that Beethoven was in fact Roman Catholic and wrote his music to glorify Our Lord. This performance was just a jazz concert, where neither the composers or the performers have the same purpose in mind. Emmet's group isn't to blame for it at all, the church is hosting (and paying) them and obviously supports their performance here. Even if it is more publicity for the church (and theoretically the faith), treating the place like any concert hall still takes away from devotion to the Eucharist...
@tonywallens217

@@tail_recursion9506 yeah obviously no shade to the band. And I think that distinction about Beethoven is right, it is closely tied to the music of the Church. Not surprised in our current climate of the church
@tail_recursion9506

@Tony wallens I honestly think it's the fault of Vatican 2, and the resulting changes to Catholicism. The Norvus Ordo treats churches like any other chapel. I don't know how much research you've done on the topic or if you agree with me (or even know what I'm talking about--) but I highly recommend the youtube channel Mass of the Ages, they have two amazing documentaries about this that I highly recommend
