George Coleman's sax tone and melodic delivery still sound absolutely beautiful. Wow. He sounds incredible even in his old age. I appreciate his grumpy old man rants. When you're as accomplished and talented as he is, look, you're entitled to your opinion. I do think that some free jazz is unlistenable, but, hey, I like some of that Ornette Coleman stuff, and some of that avante garde jazz is and was absolutely listenable and compelling. But to each his or her own. If it's not to your taste then that's fine.

It's funny George talks about Miles' rhythm section not digging him because of his bebop playing.I had a two record set of the Four and More and My Funny Valentine, and I made a recording of my own condensed version of them with only George's solos, which is still one of my favorite things to listen to.All George's solos are gems!

Right! Years ago, when I was in music school, a couple of the best young players were heavily into George’s playing on those two albums and turned me on to them. So interesting to hear George talk about his Miles experience because I had heard that Herbie, Ron and Tony had thought George’s playing was too “clean”. Just in case you haven’t heard… kzread.info/dash/bejne/lquCpamGe86fqaw.html and…. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYeYsLRxpqeyYKQ.html George kills it at 4:04 and plays THE coolest counter melody on the head-out.

Wish they made George talk more about Booker Little. He's one important musician that doesn't get mentioned often. An incredible composer and trumpeter!

Loved this latest Master Legacy video with the great George Coleman. This music giant has played with so many of the pillars of the Jazz community that he should write his memoirs. So should Jimmy, Ron, Benny and Tootie. The CD's are amazing! This video series is very special way of archiving the history of Classical Jazz, Keep em coming Emmet.
