These haters in the comments are sickening, remember she only started WTA tour 4 months ago while she was also studying for exams, winning a grad slam doesn’t change the fact she is still lacking experience and physical or mental strength, what the f were you doing at 18???? Haters is a bit strong. The problem with her winning the US Open in a million to one way is that she (and her father) believe all the hype. She is coming out with things like 'I want to coach myself'. She (or her father) thought it was a good move to get rid of a coach who worked with her to that US Open win. She thought she could turn up at Indian Wells with little prep and just win. Lost first match. And here, it is clear she as no game plan if the opponent works out how to deal with smacking the ball hard, and hitting the ball behind the opponent. No Plan B. Someone needs to advise her.

Those results don't take anything away from Rad's US Open title. But still, it confirms that she may be just like every WTA players after they win a slam. Ostapenko, Kenin, Andreescu,.. only to mention a few recent exemples. Everyone said she'll win multiple slams by the end of next year, but I doubt so. Now she will feel the pressure, everyone will expect her to win and that's where the hardest part begins. It also confirms she had a bit luck with the draw. Rogers taking out Barty and then donating the following match on a silver plater. Then she faced Bencic and Sakkari... 2 very inconsistent players who were clearly on a bad day as well. And finally she plays another teen in final. Fernandez's draw was brutal in comparison, with 3 top-5 + a multi slam winner (Kerber)... The highest player Raducanu beat was Bencic... Again, she deserved it completely... I'm just putting things into perspective. If you think she's number #1 and win other slams next year, you might be disappointed.

Let’s give her some credit for this win. And now, to our Emma🤍 She is so new to WTA tournaments, her goal for the end of this season was to play some matches. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. She is in a learning process, just give her some time to adjust with being in top 25 😊🥰

Glad that Raducanu was able to get some wins under her belt after the US Open. However, it's clear that her ranking is now over-inflated from that magical run. Now she'll be battling her own mind in trying to get more confidence as she is seeded higher in tournaments but risks losing often to lower ranked players. Hopefully she can build up her game and not think too much about her ranking.

@@bryanmartin5901 how much sport do you do? And at what level? Personally, when I was a teenager I did a couple of half marathons, I didn't see the Kenya's getting their medals because by the time I finished they had already started their 10 mile warm down. When I took up cycling I was doing the usual 10, 25 and 35 mile time trials. On a course called U18R my PB was an hour and 4 minutes, a few years before that Chris Boardman got the course record 44 minutes that was the 1991 national 25 mile TT. When I did triathlon the running and cycling wasn't the problem, but I could only swim 2km in 28 minutes. I ended up doing about 8 years of rock climbing before becoming a couch potato. Tennis is a completely different sport, but I do know that people who don't do whichever sport have absolutely no idea all the details and how much you have to work at it. I think Emma knows a lot more than me about tennis. As for her being stubborn, you have to be stubborn to always keep working at it. Try riding a bike February in the UK with February's weather from sunrise to sunset, with your face being continuously sandblasted with ice. You have to be stubborn to do sport.

People aren’t machines and the process and progress of life isn’t a cookie cutter ‘paint by numbers’ experience. That rule applies to everybody, and momentous changes in a persons’s life are integrated in the time they take. Raducanu has had a seismic shift in her world; bigger than any other I can think of at this moment, and it will simply take time. She is pretty resilient, but no one has any idea how long it will take. If you don’t understand that, then I guess not much has happened in your life so far.

Instead she gets blasted by players ranked outside the top 100. Yes it takes time to adjust, mental health is real and she is young. I am starting to get really annoyed with people who constantly underrate Kostyuk. Gauff, Raducanu and cie aren’t the only “tennis prodigy” .Kostyuk made the third round (after the qualies) at AO at age of 15 ! She made to the top 100 at a pretty young age too and has couple top 10 wins, yet people continue to act as if she doesn’t need to be taken seriously in tournaments. I can see it in 90 % of the comments that focus on Raducanu even if she lost and almost ignore Kostyuk. Kostyuk had a good game plan (taking the ball early and make her move..good for her) . On the bother hand Raducanu definitely need a coach. There was a lot of time where she could have dominate the points , because Kostyuk had a hard time returning the balls which gave short balls . All she needed to do was to move forward instead of sticking on the baseline …she understood it towards the end of the match but it was too late :( .It also seems like she lost the “magic” of her serve since uso …She’s still learning and I wish her the best as well as Kostyuk .

Agree. But on the other hand, Emma is going thru a reverse process. She hasn't played much at all on WTA tours, yet went on to win a GS. And people don't understand about this reversed process. So, with every loss and high expectations of a GS winner, Emma is going to get a lot more criticisms. However, Emma has Only started playing this year folks vs Sasnovich and even marta who turned pro at just 15,with 4 more years of tour experiences. Both these players who had tons more matches played hv Not even won a GS. You can count with yr fingers how many matches Emma had played just only in 2021. Yet she had made it further at Wimbledon and won a GS. In her interviews, Emma knows her own situation, had asked for patience, also from herself and her need to develop physical strength . Hope she will get the best coach to develop her talent. She just banked another experience fr this match. Will be back smarter and stronger.

I feel so bad for Raducanu; she was put on a pedestal since her Gland Slam victory, and since then she has been playing below the expectations. After her major win, You Tube was flooded with videos of hers from all aspects of her life and she had to so countless interviews and appearances. Yes, she had an amazing run, but now she is under so much pressure and expected to win everything. I knew it was too much too early to put her so give her so much exposure. It was a SINGLE great performance in one major tournament but she still has a lot to learn. The media loves to exploit young athletes, and forget that there are so many other great female athletes who are very good and have been on the circuit for years, but when you are young and new, you get a lot more attention. You cannot over expose young people so quickly; she still has to grow and needs her privacy. Same goes to all young female athletes; they fizzle so quickly right after getting so much attention; a real talent is proven after years of great and consistent results; you cannot be defines after just one major win. She is an amazing talent and wonderful down to earth person but the huge expectations will end up getting the best of her...I will keep rooting for her but hope she is given enough space to grow at her own pace, but I am afraid it is too late for her; she might be the new face of tennis, but on the circuit, she is just another player but with a bigger target on her back now.

I couldn't believe when she mentioned that she needs a coach with more (sorry, not grand slam experiences) WTA Tour experiences, isn't the US Open a Grand Slam and Andrew Richardson was her coach then! I think when you're winning tournaments you shouldn't change your coach at lease wait until you lose winning matches and then take a decision otherwise you lose the rhythm!

I truly wish that Raducanu had not had such an easy time of it in NY. It unfortunately made her appear invincible, and people bought into that. One shining moment does not translate into superstar, and yet that was everyone's mindset. Obviously she played very well at the US Open, but I fear that the ease of her victory along with the straight-sets performance throughout the tournament, combined with the worship heaped upon her afterwards by all, including Royalty, was simply too much for her young mind to process. And then Indian Wells comes along and I feel confident that little girl had never before in her life had her spirit crushed like that. Against Kostyuk, when Raducanu lost the first set 2-6 I could see it in her eyes that she was flashing back to IW -- she was done. Frankly, I think she did well to make it to the quarterfinals. And a quick shout out to 'H Alex'.........critical commentary is not a hate crime. And when I was 18, I was a Grunt Marine in Vietnam.

I was thinking that. You could could tell at some points that she looked lost, she's got a lot to learn and therefore needs a coach with her. Like a lot of the players she beat in NY she started to overhit to get out of trouble, but a lot of those shots could have gone in. However, you don't win 10 matches unbeaten on the WTA if you're a journey man on the WTA. You can see she needs a year of WTA250s to find her feet.

Apparently she has Canadian family ... here in Canada... and it really bothers me because most of ukranian girls as well as most guys are the most annoying racist nazi people .... they have demonstrated it to me in a very direct and non friendly manner here in toronto.. since I used to practice my tennis near - very nearby a ukranian neighborhood... until you are good you are just an annoyance at best. And when you try to reach out to other's culture to understand their perpective you are met with a very negative and distant parting look and attitude from ukranian as to why you learn russian. And furthemore - apparently to some of us here in toronto... ukranian = russia. They are apparently not two different countries but exactly the same one ! If I would have been invaded on and actually been in receipt of horrible war crimes I would sort of lower my guard and my "racial pride/nationalist pride " to try to make as many friends as possible to try to get the oppressive aggressor out to beging with and to shift the focus and also moral and social support towards my side as per international social standards. However it seems that certain people from ukraine as whole is are == completely happy with living in the past and reviving certain war sentiments and selectively trying to be portrayed as some sort o racially .

Ema should get a coach in time for AO. A good coach could give her a plan B for when things aren’t working and guide her in practice. It’s too obvious that she’s inexperienced out there. Her opponents may not have a GS but they have experience she doesn’t so it’s going to continue to be difficult for her.

Raducanu won’t be the next Ostapenko because she won’t be around long enough. It is so obvious that her priorities have changed since she won the US Open. Emma no more belongs, now, on a tennis court than Lady Gaga. Her heart isn’t in it. Look at her face when she plays. No joy, only drudgery. A sense of duty to her fans and the game. Let her go. It’s okay for her to move on. She has seen what is open to her, now, and that’s the future she wants for herself. Sweating on a tennis court ain’t a part of that, though, we know Emma never sweats.

But wouldn't your logic say Thiem would have been favored to win that one? There are so many variables it's mostly speculation. Now, it is certainly true that some players games match up in ways that don't entirely reflect ranking, and Kostyuk/Radacanu might fit into that. That is an interesting analysis, and if the comments were speculating on that I'd not have made my comment. But the idea that players are obsessed with beating Radacanu because she won a Slam "too early" is ludicrous. Any player going down that path is highly unlikely to be successful, especially since the odds of meeting a specific player at any given time are generally pretty low.

When Osaka, Swiatek, & Ostapenko won their first no one especially resented it and plotted their revenge! They all try to win each match; (3) the players know Emma got red hot & max’d out her excellent game at the right time. there’s no more to it than that. many are happy for her, most don’t think about her. they train & play w/o all your invented drama tbh; (4) Emma has it all, just needs to focus and ignore fame/fortune ~ her racket-work & athleticism & mental toughness are there. she needs experience & growth. cheers.

Serena helped transform the game through hitting outright winners off shots like that. Also, Kostyuk hits a heavier ball with more spin and height /variety, so she (naturally) has more options in the rally.
