"I am impressed and I don't want to be." My thoughts exactly. Cid is without a doubt the edgiest edgelord who ever edged in the history of edginess. The author of this whole thing knew exactly what they were doing and not once did they apologize or look back. This is the most guilty pleasure anime I've ever experienced and it drives me nuts that it is 😭

to be fair, its the anime's fault. They did not understand the source material they were adapting. Try the the manga or the light novel and you'll see. The story is meant to be a satire. The author is hyper aware about how edgy the mc is. In fact, thats the point. Its meant to be comical, which it is in the manga. Would suggest you read few chapters of that.

Nah boy, the show is great. People seem to think that for something to be good, it has to be some amazing story that blows you out of the water, but that's just not true. For something to be good it just has to accomplish what it set out to do in a competent manner. And Eminence in Shadows does just that, and it's amazing because of that. It just embraces what it is and makes no excuses or apologies for it, and it's backed up by amazing animation and Cid's Chuunibyu fantasy is honestly amazing because he's living out the exact life he wanted to but believes he's not and pretends like he is anyway.

Also this show does clearly have story. There is a lot going on with shadow garden, Rose, Iris, Alexia and the cult of diabolos. Its just that our MC is completely unaware of the story due to his own insanity and delusions and he is just enjoying life and living his dreams one after another but with Shadow garden there is an epic battle with the cult as they both try to get the upper hand to destroy each other. With Rose she lost her kingdom, her father and even her name and has to deal with all of it in order to save her kingdom. With Alexia she is trying to catch up to her sister and be useful so that she can protect her country and for Iris she is loosing all confidence in her own combat abilities after being outclassed by both Alpha and shadow as she is loosing the faith of her people. She knows her country will never be safe as long as Shadow lives since he can destroy it at any time and as a result she is slowly developing an obsession with beating Shadow the man she sees as the cause of all these problems. Even Sherry has her own story with dealing with the death of her father and getting Revenge on Shadow which has become an obsession. Then There is Cid who is unaware of everything but is causing chaos in every ones plans. There is clearly a lot of story in the show but the mc is just ignorant about it. Once you notice the story you can't un notice it.

This take of its 'bad' or 'trashy' is honestly so dumb it makes my head hurt. TEIS was extremely entertaining to the point it was my most looked forward to anime of the last 2 seasons, it was extremely funny, it had great characters, a solid story and great music/sound design/VA. What more could you ask for in an anime or piece of entertainment? Why cant you just call good things good without qualifying it with negative language out of ridiculous bias or misplaced embarrassment due to the genre of the anime? Objectively speaking just in terms of it's production quality TEIS in better than 80% of the anime in the last 2 seasons in which it was airing. If you're going to go ahead an call this 'bad' or 'trash' then the vast majority of anime must be so bad to the point they are unwatchable.

It's not being called trashy because it's bad, it's being called trashy because it leans into and embraces all the tellings of a typically bad isekai, aka trash, and cranks them up so high to the point it wraps back around to being absolutely amazing. It's just a lot easier to call it "the king of trash" to get that point across than to say "the show that should be trash but isn't because blah blah blah."

It is actually good, the story is seen from Cid’s perspective, which due to him being absolutely broken and his own disposition and view of the world, removes any real responsibility from him to solve the problems of the world, this funnily enough lets other characters do things instead of him, and show the world through different lenses. 1 being CID who is just larping and gaslighting everyone including himsel. And 2 being everyone else who actually take things and events seriously. Is it cringe, yes, does that make it bad , no not really.

I remember first starting to watch this because it just seemed silly as a concept, only for it to end being on of my favourite animes of all time and I am really considering buying the LNs and have read the manga up to speed. Like, this show does extremely well at what it set out to be. Not everything that is entertaining needs to be this revolutionary great story that blows your mind. Sometimes you need a show that you can sit back, relax and put on something that is just fun. And that is what The Eminence in Shadow did for me, it was a show fully aware of what it was doing and never apologised about it. And that is the biggest reason why I liked it. There are other reasons like the really cool fight scenes and ofcourse, because we can't forget, Cids anticts. Edit: I do feel like I need to say this. If you still don't like the show even knowing what it is meant to be, that's fine, (almost) no one is saying that this is an masterpiece of an anime, including me. If it isn't your thing, that's fine by me, but I am then more or less curious what you truly dislike about it. Edit 2: One last edit I swear, I highly recommend any people who are just starting this series to watch with earbuds or headphones. Several scenes in the show work much better with those (Like the I am Atomic in this vid).

Gigguk is not kidding when he says that this is what happens when everyone in the studio understood the assignment. Like having a bad set of cards in hand and just playing them masterfully and better than other plays with actually good cards. And bottom line is that it is true that like it One Punch Man has a moron protagonist, a bad plot and little to no stakes at all (on paper both show should be terrible), and somehow both of these are good series by playing the cards they do have as best as they can.

Satire and irony in this show is spectacular. I shouted every time they did the trick to make fun of "regular shows" and "isekais" and dial it to even more ridiculousness by just intellectually using and referencing to the show's itself madness and absurd, which is really new and innovative while everything else these days is some classic story bullshit that has its own limitations. For example, they even made fun of exposition overload theory by just creating one and adding main character that doesn't give a F about this story-telling at all but acts like he listens. And this exposition was exactly deliberately boring, long and "important" which is really bad for typical story, but they did it just to use it and make an absurdly fun scene. This was so good. You literally skipping through and the guy goes "Yeah yeah really interesting I am definitely not spacing out while you tell me all this" as you skip. They definitely blew these limitations and did it with style. Truly masterpiece if you value the new ideas that come around and witness what you can make out of a show with just slight creativity, fun and hype build-ups and drops. And music man, music was on point.

everything that we associate with cringiness happens but not even Cid himself takes the show seriously. I'd suggest watching the beginning of Nux Taku's video on the show. here's the "in a nutshell" of the "in a nutshell" of "the eminence in shadow". Spoiler alert but not for the plot but for what makes the show appealing. Cid is a kid who unlike other kids of his agegroup didn't grow out of his rolemodels. he wants to be cool because of these rolemodels hence Shadow. however he isn't portrayed as someone cool, but as someone who imagines himself as cool. what's cool in his mind? whatever the hypothetical audience would want a "cool character" to be like. he isn't breaking the fourth wall the same way someone like Deadpool (who is ofc great) would. he has in his own mind constructed a story, wherein he is cool because he does what the idols he views as cool would do. he is inspired by them but not in a "what would they think is justice" way but more on a "if there was someone watching me, what would my idol(s) do, to appear cool" way, but with a twist. the twist ofc is that he IS the protagonist of his anime hence why he gets reincarnated, and fate makes it so that he IS cool, he DOES get all the hot girls's loyalty but he does not care. because it is so damn obvious to him and us, that fate is on his side that it annoys him, but for us it's entertaining because it almost feels like fate (the writers so to speak) and Cid have somewhat of a relationship themselves. fate wants to get the plot moving while Cid wants to play his double life of Shadow on the one and NPC6487 on the other side. It's just so obvious to Cid that fate is somehow on his side. because to his potential audience having fate be on his side would be boring but it's not. he makes up random lore about the world on the spot and it turns out 100% true. It not only annoys him because it would be boring to the hypothetical audience he imagines he is being watched by, but also because even to him it seems ridicules. that's it I hope my comment helped you get a better understanding of the story but just do what you want to do, and watch what you want to watch.

As someone who has only second hand experience with Re:Zero's story, I do think that it's a great story. The problem with the main character is that he is an undeveloped character being developed through the first season. From the start, he is just a NEET that ended up in another world, but by the end, he's a man that's experienced death so often that he could only "grow up" or keep failing. A different story for a character experiencing different troubles from all other stories because he is one of few characters who has no power beyond "Return to Previous Save Point". But for Eminence in Shadow, its what you think it is in its perfected form. I personally don't like watching cringe because I want to look away from the screen because of second hand embarrassment taking over but the characters, world, and comedy make every cringy scene a joy from start to end. My heart may burn from MC's cringy, out of context lines but holy hell is it an experience worth experiencing as the man isn't just overpowered, but overpowered enough he can focus on his primary goal of looking cool while he kicks the a** of whoever is against him.

Show is top tier give it a shot watch the whole show . It's edgy yes but it's funny and epic . Trust me it was so good I watched all 20 episodes . I didn't even do that for the masterpiece that is steins gate and I love stiens gate . And it's the best time to watch it as season 2 is announced.

Eminence in Shadow is the best thing I watched last season. I liked it so much it was one of the few anime in my life I watched more than 2 times. I think I watched the last episode 4 times. You know those videos of terrible accidents that you rewind over and over? That is this show.

For RE:ZERO The main character is supposed to be like that. He's supposde to be unlikable at first, a bad person that needs to change, and the show is about his journey to that change . A lot of people that are into ISEKAI are like the main character, they are shut-ins that don't fit in society and wish to be reborn into another life to start over with cool super powers and a harem. RE:ZERO is good because it slaps this idea in the face with some reality, that if such a person would be reborn to such a fantasy world that they would still suck and be unlikable and most likely be the same as they were in the world they lived before, and that they will have to work really hard in order the change them selfs to something they can be proud of. The show tells its viewer a lot of very deeps topics like self acceptance, parental love, the value of life , self hatred, depressions, and shows how Subaru overcomes these struggles which make this show one of my favorites

@@syedfaizan4630 The show is not for everyone, you proberly don't like ISEKAI that much, but here are some videos that might change your mind. If you have the spare time to check these out. "The point of Re:Zero a masterful Character Study" by Kevin Nyaa and "Re:Zero IS a Masterpiece.F*** You, Fight Me." by Mother's Basement. I personally had to give the show two tries before getting into it. First time watching I dropped the show mid first season when subaru got cursed and tried figuring out what was happening, and got back into it three months after watching some YT videos talking about Re:Zero, and went in with a differnt mind set, and suprisingly liked the show. But i get where your comming from a lot of people don't like the show becasue of subaru and the ISEKAI fantasy setting.

I'm 43 years old. Been watching anime since the mid 80's, playing jrpg's since the NES, and have seen ALOT of anime over my life. Manga? Read hundreds. Tabletops? DnD and old Star Wars with the 6 sided dice rules for years. MMO's? Been playing them for 20 years. And with all of my nerdiness out there, I also spent 10 years in a car group where I owned an 800 horsepower Corvette. Eminence in Shadow is fun. Plain and simple. It's entertaining and I look forward to every single episode that has been released. Is it the best thing ever? Absolutely not. But it certainly is a nice break from the usual stuff we've gotten over the last few years. I love seeing all of the crazy psychotic stuff Cid comes up with. At the same time, I love seeing the story that is developing around him with all of the other characters, and seeing what direction they go with, all the while he's completely oblivious to the seriousness of it all. It isn't for everyone. So it's okay if you don't enjoy it. Lets be honest. There isn't one thing on Earth, that 100% of people like. But if you do manage to have fun with it for what it is, and what it's suppose to be, well hopefully it'll feel like time well spent and not wasted.

Eminence in Shadow actually does have really good writing for the observant viewer. The first episode is the weakest of the season, but the whole point of the show is that it's a parody of Isekai's and Power Fantasies so hating it because it's an Isekai Power Fantasy fine but you're falling for the bait. It's easy to just write it off as a generic Isekai, but it's really not. There's not really any other isekai as self-aware as this one, but it doesn't pull it's punches. I also can't think of any other Isekai with this kind of story, because even though it's a Power Fantasy, having the main character trying to Blend in gives it it's own unique spin that you won't find anywhere else. Objectively speaking, the animation, sound design, voice acting and art is all really high quality which are all reasons to watch it. Just because it's "trashy" isekai, doesn't mean it's bad. It's nothing like the room because The Room is objectively bad, but so bad it's good. Eminence in Shadow is objectively good, but people don't want to give it the chance because it's another Isekai. Calling it The Room of anime is just wrong.

There are modified versions of "I AM ATOMIQUE!" And the reason why Japanese Protags would speak in a different language is because they would sound cool inplace of regular moonspeak. Its the same reason why english weebs would sometimes use Japanese inplace of an english world because it would sound better. Hate watch it if you want Airier, but if you did enjoy the comedic parts of Overlord then you would love Eminence in Shadow. Its PEAK Parody that the characters (except for the Protagonist himself) would take everything seriously. As Cid, he takes the role of being an NPC as being the top priority and would playup tropes and cliches that he knows. As Shadow, he becomes the epitome of Mysterious Power House who had already known what's your next 5 move is going to be and doesn't give a f^ck about it because he absolutely CANNOT LOSE. An prime example of what I mean is from the webnovel and has yet to appear in the Light Novel and Manga. Cid in an attempt to ghost Claire (his sister) and the girls (basically everyone in Shadow Garden, Alexia and Iris) secretly joins a Mercenary Army with Quinton and Goldoh Kinmeki (two recurring Side Characters). He just assumes they would just be bandit hunting because Mercs are unruly, rowdy and undisciplined when compared to a Kingdom's forces, and they are sent as a clean-up crew to one of the Cult's bases that have been previously destroyed by The Kingdom. Unbeknownst to anyone, the Mercs were actually sent there as a sacrifice to open up a hidden piece of Diabolos. Cid somehow gets along with these random NPCs that he has forgotten that he had already met before while experimenting on his Mana to create a buff effect on other people. So when the Cult surrounds the Mercs and the situation was dire, Cid completes his experiment and unleashes the buff magic on all of the Mercs, showering them in a Violet Light and because why not, Cid makes the shape into the Goddess' Flower Symbol. With the new buffs, the Mercs win and because the Buff is actually permanent, everyone (but Cid) now has the Goddess' Mark on their body, which prompts the Mercs to form an unofficial Holy Army by their own discretion and authority. And the Diabolos piece that the Cult wanted? Cid swooped in and got Aurora's finger and somehow becomes Cid's pet because the finger "recognizes" Cid's mana from when Cid met Aurora during the Goddess Trials. I said this when I was reading the webnovel, because the trope of Isekai Protag is that they get blessings or power when they get isekaid, Cid's real cheat is that any BS he thinks of and says to other people, it warps the world around him so to make anything that he says or does, no matter how improbable or impossible somehow becomes true and real and has always been true and real. Randomly saves elf from an unknown magic disease and randomly creates a story about a Cult rewriting history, Cult is REAL and is actively doing sh*t because reasons. Sister gets kidnapped and is shown a bunch of possible locations to where they took her, randomly throws a knife and misses the spot he wants to hit but says in an affirmative tone that they will find Claire on that random area where nothing is marked. ACTUALLY IS THE ENEMY MAINBASE IN THE AREA. Cid who actually does not know how to read or write Ancient Characters, SOMEHOW creates a CODE where Beta manages to break to find the location of all the stolen money (which Cid Stole) is stored.
