Eminem - Rock Bottom - Reaction - BOY, have I been there!

I think many of us can really relate to this song. Em has so many ways of allowing ourselves to be relatable to his songs. What a great guy.

Another song you'll love from this era of Eminem is "If I Had.." it's Em in the same mindset, broke, struggling and trying to make it big.

I remember my single mom sitting down to try to pay bills and literally crying because working two jobs, she still couldn’t pay everything. When you are doing everything you can to take care of your family and it’s still not enough- that’s rock bottom. She’s good now but those were hard desperate times.

Wow reading this reminds me of my mum at one stage in life when I was a child, I remember walking into my mums bedroom and finding her lying down crying saying she didn’t know how she was gonna cope with our bills, Was just her, me and my younger brother. Things got a lot better but u never forget seeing someone u look so up too been so broken. If anyone is at their rock bottom, just keep going on. Everyday u get thru is a success in itself. Things do get better 😊

It's crazy at this point of the original recording he'd never think he'd have a gold record song or album and he'd then turn into the best selling hip hop artist in history and make the literal Hall of Fame. His journey in his life must've been so insane from his constant highs and lows.

iirc, there’s a bit of backstory to this (might be wrong on some of the details). When this was recorded originally, he’d just been fired from his minimum wage job and really didn’t have much. He attempted suicide a short while after but thankfully survived which was not long before the rap Olympics where Dre first noticed him. Just completely inspiring how he was at his absolute rock bottom and a few years later was on top of the world

You know those songs that just instantly transport you back to another time and space? As soon as I hear this song, it takes me right back to being a young teenager, nearly killing myself with drugs every night, so desperate and alone. I remember I'd play this song and sit on my bed and cry because it was the only thing I felt any resonance with in my life. I used to get so angry with all the people on the news at the time trying to ban Em from TV and the radio, I'd just think "can't you see he's helping people like me?". They didn't care about that though, they just heard the bad words and wanted him gone. Anyway, my point is, even though I'm a grown woman now with a family of my own and my life is much better, this song can instantly take me back to that feeling. It's amazing how powerful music can be.

The best thing about this song is that it was written when he was at his actual rock bottom, before he met Dre. That really puts things into perspective and makes the lyrics hit even harder than they would otherwise. One of my favourite Em songs for sure!

Great reaction as always. Now that you’ve reacted to Rock Bottom, I think a great song to do next would be Say Goodbye Hollywood. Whereas Rock Bottom is Marshall listing his struggles living in poverty, Say Goodbye Hollywood is sort of about his regrets and anxieties he’s developed at the peak of his fame in 2002. Look forward to the next video!

You're most likely to pick up your own box because you start to see other peoples troubles and realze wow, I have it pretty good."

I was in that spot a couple years I'll ago. You can get out of it. With a little bit of humility and a shit ton of work. First you have to admit that you are the only one that is gonna get you out of it. Sitting and waiting for something to materialise is only lowering the chance of you ever doing something about your situation. Then you have to decide what you are aiming for, exactly. Then you need a step by step plan of how to get there. It's incredibly difficult to change your own habits. So you need to use the smallest amount of change possible, to get a step up. Small incremental steps towards a goal are the best way to achieve a goal. Because time is gonna pass no matter what. You just gotta change one thing a day or a week or a month.

Love that you try to incorporate your stories when you can, glad to hear your nephew is better. This album the one that made Eminem blew up in popularity, after this one he was rich, but still not completely happy. I recommend the song Marshall Mathers, it kind of explains how he felt after being launched to fame and being sued by his mom.

This is what Em said about the origins of the song in his autobiography: "Rock Bottom" was (sigh) another song done between the EP and LP. I didn't know when I wrote it that it was going to come out that sad. I had actually meant to be an uplifting song, but when we were sitting around making the track, Head had a sample that we played the beat and it was just so sad. I said fuck it, let's go with this one. Not surprisingly, I wrote it while I was going through a fucked-up time. The night I recorded the song, I had taken a bunch of pills, thrown up, and was just real fucking depressed. So I took a bunch of codeine tablets. Problem was, I took too many of them shits and got real sick. When I wrote the song, it was right before the Rap Olympics happened. It was during the week when I had gotten evicted from my house. I was stayin' across the street from where I used to live. It was a street called Novara out in Detroit. I was staying with these two roommates, and this dude told me that he had cheaper rent for me and I should come live with him. We said, "Okay, he's got cheaper rent, then fuck it, we'll move in his house." So me and my boy went across the street to live with him. We were paying out rent to him, but the s.o.b. was keeping our rent and wasn't paying the landlord. He took the rent, saved up his own money, and bounced on us. So one day we come home and all our shit's on the fuckin' front lawn. We never could catch the motherfucker. Till this day, we haven't caught him. It was a real fucked period in my life (no surprise there), and I felt like I had hit "rock bottom"

As usual, great reaction. This is probably one of the earliest songs you've reacted to. From the same album as the Bonnie and Clyde song you reacted to previously. This was actually the first Em song I ever memorized when it was released. He wrote this well before he ever made it in the industry. He got to the point he was kicked out of his house and actually broke in through the window to sleep on the floor. Tragic stuff. I mentioned in a previous em reaction, I believe you would absolutely love "Stronger than I was" which most fans believe is written from Kim's perspective as a song back to Eminem. It's an absolute departure from any song you have ever really heard from him, and now you understand the whole story of their relationship you'd appreciate it. Good fan made video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m46o3LmFn7acYNo.html No lyrics, just visuals through ems career...but the song does not need lyrics to follow. You'll understand. Thank you for the reactions as always.

Rock bottom is one of my favorite eminem songs and my favorite in the slim shady lp, thats because i think it really shows the hatred and sadness he really had during his life and that sadness in this i think is lost as he goes on in the albums because hes happier (ofcourse that a good thing) but im just saying this really hits hard and jts relateable because of that

Unlike Cleaning out my Closet which is an important time in my life too as I like many, have been through what Marshall has been through. This song is personal for me. I spent most of my life trying to be functional again and fit back into society. Everyone's got a story and for this song, I bumped it everyday. Had so much going on from being raised by therapist over my own parents who didn't learn nothing but steal and lie and let themselves go as they fought each other. Hardly remember my dad and my stepdad taking up the parent side of things helped but he died when I was 8-9 followed by my real dad. Again raised by therapist. Struggled with PTSD and Major depression which graduated to Schizophrenia, Seasonal Depression and Anxiety Attacks that cripple me every time I have a bad one. Almost took my drawing and writing hand. Beaten most of my life till i fought back. School smart but eventually had to be streets smart. Music a much need pumping my veins and me wanting to be an artist. Later on in years, just going through the worst depression in my life, potential suicide attempts, scattered mindset and a heavy feeling. Had to control my anger and get used to being around people again in society. Hated with so much venom, you can feel it every time I write. I was a wanderer and music kept me solid. Was doing better over time but during the mandates, it forced me to reflect and readjust and deal with the job lowering my hours and almost losing everything again like last time. Homeless for a pretty long time on and off couch surfing and saving as fast as I can. I worked my ass off and even though i am not where i should be, i am much better than where I was, physically, mentally, emotionally and decently financially. I am happier than my violently angry 20 year old self. I tried to be peaceful most times but people tried me on the streets and I had to fight back. Socially being in certain environments and being positive was hard as fuck but in the end, I made it through. Shit happens. Gotta pull through somehow and ride the flow and chill. Its hard even for me to say that to myself all the time to myself but that is important. Eminem got out of a fucked up situation and in the end, he found both his calling and accomplished his dreams and gave his daughter a life he wished he had growing up. This song is the epitome of what that can feel like if you listen long enough. Have a great day folks and have a great day Larry ☺

Never give in to Rock Bottom. Remember what Chris says, real truth. Don't spiral down deeper into that rabbit hole. B4 it gets worse, pick yourself up, as hard as it may seem. Accomplish ANYTHING significant one day at a time. It will get better if u try and play "I'm not afraid." That explains a lot. relatable 4 a new start, so many going thru tough times. What you said about the hospital... 😭 neurology in my case. I wonder how many of you guys appreciate the simple things like being able to walk. Right? I didn't even thought about that kind of stuff either... until I ended up in hospital, diagnosed with some spine issue. Seeing all the people on wheelchairs, others not being able to move at all... and me lying in bed for almost a year. Doctor gave me 10% chances to walk again. I gave up at first, but then I realized 10% is more than 0%. Now I should probably say I'm so grateful I can walk that I'm walking 10 miles everyday... naah... lol 🤣 I'd rather drive a car but still... I've learned the lesson. Be grateful for what you have, someone would give everything for things you don't appreciate at all. Loved the reaction ❤

I wish you still had your reaction to Fall on your KZread channel. It's too bad KZread took it down. You should try putting it back up.

In many of your videos you say you don’t know if Eminem is singing or not because he doesn’t sing much, for that I recommend you check out Stronger Than I was, I believe that song has the most Eminem actually singing, rare for Eminem, you might like it

One song I recommend is brain damage. Its the same album as this song and it goes into him being bullied, its a bit comedic but personally my favorite from the album

politely requesting either T.I. live your life ft. rihanna official music video, or disturbed the light official music video. i feal like you would apreciate the life lessons they try to teach. like focusing on what truely matters to you and pursueing your dreams, or perseverance through difficult times and not giving up when it feals hopeless.
