Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton | Choir Of The Mind | Full Concert

Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton gives a special performance of Choir Of The Mind.

Emily Haines' latest solo effort, Choir of the Mind, is an intimate affair. So if you are looking to spend some quality time with it, then look no further - this week's First Play Live session is about as intimate as any we've ever recorded.
Haines didn't want to come to the CBC and perform her new songs in a concert setting. She wanted something deeper and more meaningful; something closer to the music and her experience creating it. We were more than happy to oblige.
What Haines delivered is closer to a one-woman play than to a rock concert. Performed in front of an audience of about 100 fans at the Crow's Theatre in Toronto, Haines gave a special performance of songs from Choir of the Mind.

The vulnerability, intimacy and rawness of this performance is what makes it so exceptional. It’s so difficult to put your soul out on display. But when you do and it resonates with a few people, I think that’s what makes it worth it.
A wonderful depiction of shadow work, making the wounds you hide visible and the darkness conscious.
SO UNDERRATED! Are you kidding me? Such a uniquely finessed performance so perfect and beautifully put together. So inspiring and eye opening.

I feel you. An amazing album
God I just want to give her the biggest hug and tell her everything's gonna be okay.
Saw The Soft Skeleton in DC last night and this doesn't do her/them any justice compared to what you will hear and see live. For one, the band behind her is incredible, for two, the energy from the crowd is just one of a kind. I've never felt a more respectful and loving audience in a room together. And it was all because she was there, making everyone think for a while on what brings us together, rather than dividing over stupid little things. And to top it all off, they came out after the show and spoke and took photos with everyone. And they are the nicest musicians I think I've ever met. If you can, go to a show on this tour. The tickets are super affordable, even the VIP stuff, and it's well worth your money. You're gonna be seeing some excellent musicians play together.
This is real performance art. I haven't seen a live show with so much soul since the likes of Amy Winehouse. Raw and emotional, Emily reaches into a cynical creativity abstracting what I'm guessing is her life. And I relate to it, in a way that I feel most music doesn't touch on. There is a level of meta awkward & clumsy self awareness present in the narration juxtaposition to the music. A human honesty at it's sincerely self perceived best. Just watch it and you'll see what I mean. The live performance brings to life something different than what you could hear on Spotify or Apple Music. It's simplistic in nature, shedding an exposing light on issues personal to her. The camera work and direction does justice to the meaning. Even the set design I felt was realistic for the emphasis of the meaning. Maybe I'm not the best judge. I'll be the first to admit that. Culture is a mysterious creature to me. Post-modernism kind of ruins objectivity. This isn't that though, and that's why I enjoy it so much. But I stand by what I said: This is real performance art.

Absolutely breath taking! I first heard Metric in 2001 and the messages of their songs changed my life. This record is some of my favourite work I’ve ever heard from Emily Haines, just a complete dimension of its own! Wow. Thank you Emily Haines and The Soft Skeleton for crafting such a perfectly experimental record of grace and the grotesque. I also love this performance, it greatly compliments the work and ties many of the tracks together in a unique way, I love it. Always and Forever, I love it!
i listen EVERY day to Emily her new album, every day !! such an amazing new album.. Legend Of The Wild Horse.. good lord what a masterpiece ..
While I was introduced to EH&TSS via Metric, I've always gravitated more towards her solo work. Still love Metric, but her solo stuff makes me listen harder and deeper, in and out. Love it.
this is the most impressing performance I've ever seen. Emily is a wonderful songwriter and singer and this is her masterpiece so far.
I hope she does another tour of this. It’s great.
listening to the album now - absolutely amazing Emily is a genius.

listening to the CD or the LP ? Because the LP is supposed to be poor quality vinyl. I personally own the CD even though I'm a vinyl nerd.

The Lo is not poor quality!
So touching, so moving, im almost crying
I would so buy this on dvd/blu ray with some behind the scenes stuff or interviews thrown in, maybe the actual videos for some of the songs.
Emily is a true artist! Amazing work.
Crazy talented.
I love seeing the giant chord notes up on her piano.
Completely blown away

oh girl. this hits me right in the heart and you are timeless and brilliant, always thanks for sharing
AMAZING
saw them in Seattle parts were unforgettable jimmy is with the skeletons hope there is some good video watching her with the piano is a rare treat.
My 2017/2018's musical theme for sure... she is an absolutely artist. The lyrics are amazing!
Hard to sit still with all that creative energy. Always food for thought...
My favorite track.
I cannot...Omygoodness... Emily has already grabbed me, told me to scream, that I was still alive, to sing, scream, "Help I'm Alive!" She reminded me that, "the world won't let me go," and quite literally and linguistically I could go through at least 5 songs' lyrics from Fantasies through Formentara... and shyt...I must do this quietly alone, and not now... another time... 2009-2022...almost every lyric...every live and acoustic performance, along with 6x seeing Metric live. And the last 1.5 yr of my quasi-so-called tragic life, I swear, I am living that true, "Shakespearean Tragedy," my 2nd dad told/asked me that America couldn't handle. I am now literally in this rhetorical statement/question... Okay...coming back....but in a few days...Im too broken, too blown away...ug. N.

Is that.... a value village sticker on the gold rimmed mirror?! I love her even more :')

Amazing!
I drift away into bliss, I mean sleep, to this a couple times a week. It puts my mind at peace, or something. I start at a different place each time for variety. I seem to sleep pretty well if I do it, otherwise, I wake often it seems. Still experimenting.
Love this album, but the performance was a different and amazing experience.
LOVE this so much.
Though very self indulgent, I feel she is heartfelt and real. Emily always is. I love it.

Idunno, I think self-indulgence in a musician is nice. I'd much rather listen to unique, vivid songs about a real individual's experiences than a song that tries to be vague so everyone can project onto it. And besides, we're all the same species and many of us will be able to see something meaningful to us in what's meaningful to another -- which feels better because it's more specific. I'm not very good at explaining myself, so pardon the wording there. Part of what's good about Emily Haines is that, as you say, she's very heartfelt and real; even though she's such a prolific producer of music, her interviews and songs all give the impression that she genuinely cares about writing good music and that all her songs and albums were produced with a real concept in mind. Her work that's philosophical or political is always written from a place of individual introspection rather than more impersonal campaigning, and this is especially true of her solo albums.

¿Alguien que pueda traducirlo a español por favor? Para todos los fans.
Sounds like she's really struggling here. Also the songs are pretty empty without that bit of added instrumentation. Great if you're a fan, but you wouldn't convert anyone.
