emily dickinson | the greatest poet

Фильм және анимация

“Emily Dickinson was born in 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. She lived throughout her life in her father's house. Near the end of her life, she rarely left her own room. Aside from a few mostly anonymous verses, she remained unpublished. When she died, her poems were discovered. Some of the strangest, most fascinating poems ever written. Almost 2,000 of them, hidden in a maid's trunk.”

This is my attempt at making a character study of Emily Dickinson. I started it a month ago and it was the hardest thing I've ever done, not only because it's almost 7-minute long (believe me, it could've been worse and I had to force myself to leave some parts out), but also because I realized that the reason I liked Dickinson so much is that I could, in a sense, relate to Emily.
As a french girl, I've never heard about Emily Dickinson before watching the show. Funny because in english litterature classes, we studied Poe, Orwell, Bradbury... But no woman in sight. I couldn't quote you any french poem made by a woman either. Poets like Hugo, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Apollinaire, Eluard, Breton, Baudelaire, Lamartine, La Fontaine, they've all been part of my education and, despite the complete lack of female poet example, I've always liked reading poetry, and writing poems (they were cringe, but still an attempt was made).
Reading and writing got soon replaced by vidding as I grew up. I don't pretend to have 0,00001% of the creativity & artistic talent of Emily Dickinson, but this edit and its themes speak to me, as an artist, and I hope it resonates with you too. Struggling with depression and feeling lost in my own world, it's the process of making these edits that is the only way I know to keep me grounded, express myself, and share something meaningful with people. And this is a hobby that is literally saving my life.
Like Austin said, Emily has something real, her poems, just like I have my silly little edits.
I just hope you enjoy this. This was also a personal challenge because I wanted to escape my bad habits of trying to follow every single beat of a song when I'm vidding, I hope the pacing isn't too distracting.

i wish the real Emily could see how beloved and acclaimed she became after her death. her family did a lot to discourage her from being who she wanted to be, yet she is the only dickinson that matters all these years later. she's the one that gives that name ANY privilege. she left a legacy of beauty and thought provoking sentiments that resonate years and decades later.

I've always been in love and intrigued by Emily Dickinson. I remember when I first heard a reading in the 90s of her "Because I could not stop for death.." I swear I had goosebumps. At the the time I didn't know if it was the way it was read or the words but it was haunting and bone-chilling. To later find out we share a birthday and now recently her sexuality is uncovered I'm just in awe of this beautiful brilliant woman. If an afterlife or reincarnation is true, I hope she is living life to the fullest as opposed to being the property of male guardians in the 1800s.

I liked her Angel of Death. No one could have portrayed him different. And every line he said to her ended up coming to fruition. She is the only Dickinson they talk about 200 years later. 200 years too late, but her work is here and out there now. I believe some people earn a secret, imaginative character like the Angel of death in our lives, to build our character or sort of prepare them for their time. Not everyone, but a few special people. 🤩😎🌹🌹🌹🌹.

I have watched this months ago and for some reason I continue to. this edit you've made , it isn't just an edit , you've captured the image of her , the true image . nobody knew her thoughts , they knew her name, only her poems, but this has made people realize that she was a person who was too deep and to beautiful for the world to understand but somehow you put honor to her name. like I said this edit has given her poems a meaning ...but most of all , her life. people can see her, not just the actor who plays her but her, her essence, her brilliance, her voice, her beauty, her darkness , her light, her struggles , and many more. this shows people that there was a brilliant yet so passionate a person here, the most brilliant part about it was that you showed her immortality, what she always wanted was that word and I wish I could tell her that her wish was fulfilled. but us ,, her fans will continue to share her with the world. its always the people that nobody suspects, that later they become a legend , not a myth but known and real. I love that you've captured her essence in the video . I thank you so much for that and wanted to let you know also that im a major major fan of Hailee Steinfeld to hehe which is how I found the show, but I did not fall in love with her , I fell in love with the character she played who was real and was expressed and yeah. just thank you for making this bahahaha

You made me want to go out and buy everything she’s ever written. I would pay to read her views on keeping a woman in her place. People wonder why she wasn’t celebrated more while she was alive, but why? We know that it’s because women were treated so inferior to men in her time, that a talented woman had no place in the world. Someone needed to start a rant about “Women’s Lives Mattering” in her time. This edit symbolized what an amazing and angst filled life Emily Dickinson had. It’s no wonder she hid her work in a drawer. It could only be recognized if they lied and pretended it was written by a man. I can imagine Sue being lifted every time she read a poem Emily wrote for her, but I can also understand the poetry being extremely deep, however endearing.🤩. Wow. This was a beautiful tribute to Emily.🥰🥳. Nicely done🌹🌹🌹😎.

Omg, I had this in my spoilers playlist (that's where I put videos from shows I want to watch) and it was SO worth the wait, you created a literal masterpiece! Not only did I not realise how 6:49 minutes went (that usually happens when I am too mesmerized to bother about minutes) but you managed to portray the whole essence of Emily. From her obsession with death, to her desire to be listened, then the entire 'nobody' vs 'famous poet' paradigm. Every quote and scene you chose had their right place and dont get me started on those parallels, amazing work! P.S. This is only the first video I am watching of this show (after actually watching the show that is) so just watch me compare everything else to it 😅 P.S.2: I admit I didn't read anything from her and my ignorant mind thought at first she had some relation to Dickens. 🤦🏻‍♀️ But I so want to read her poems. I just need to read some other unfinished books.

Thank you so much for making this beautiful edit! Emily has this magic which makes reading her poems to an emotional rolercoaster. Everytime i read a poem of hers its like i could literally start to cry. Emily had this different kind of view on things and i think that was one reason why she was alone (and ofc because she enjoyed being alone) Dickinson represented her life perfectly with all of her doubts fears and worries. It also showed the positiv parts of her life like writing to sue or her garden. Again thank u this edit summarizes her life so well! Btw im so sorry for my grammar english isnt my native language :D.
