My late oldest sister was an R.N. and she explained many of the procedures and medications used to show patients being treated on this show. I would have been quite confused and misinformed without her knowledge. She worked in a couple of ER's in her early career. Thank you for being a nurse. They are responsible for so much of patient treatment, but are not fully appreciated for it.

YEP!! No show ever had the most smoke free structure fires, then Emergency! HELL, even on the occasional vehicle fire, there wasn’t that much smoke on those, either. In all the years I spent with three different fire-rescue outfits, I never found myself in one of those types of fires. I guess I had to be in California, or at least L.A. County,🤷‍♂️

Watching Emergency! episode The Floor Brigade from Season 3 on FeTV as I write this, Beautiful tribute - such great actors we lost. Emergency! was one of my favorite shows growing up and still is. Have been watching the reruns on MeTv, COZI and FeTv for the last five years at least and rarely missed an episode. The show may now be dated but it put paramedics on the map and revolutionized emergency medicine - where would we be without them? Who would have thought back then! The ensemble acting was great. I doubt if another group of actors would have done as well. Met Randy Mantooth in a NYC coffee shop some years ago after Emergency! ended. We talked for a while about his career - eventually he had to leave but did not rush out or act like I was burdening him. He came across as a very down to earth guy. Wish I would have met the rest of the cast as well.

The strangest case of life imitating art: Being a 12 year old boy when Emergency first aired, I of course watched it almost religiously. (Hey, we only had three channels, remember?) Fast forward to 2008; my wife and I are returning from vacation in Mexico, flying into LAX, when she starts to get REALLY ill on the plane. Severe abdominal pain, etc. It's bad enough that they call for a doctor among the passengers, and that doc says "Hospital, as soon as we land!" So the plane is met by an ambulance with paramedics from? You guessed it... Rampart 51!!! Of course, my wife is absolutely miserable, and I'm helpfully pointing out... "Honey! Do you know what AMBULANCE this is?!? It's Rampart 51! From the TV show!" Fortunately she was too ill to find any sharp objects upon which to impale me. FWIW, they took great care of her, and we were able to get her out of the hospital after 24 hours dealing with some sort of bad norovirus stuff....

Jim Page was the individual in the L. A. County Fire Department that really pushed for their paramedic program. His peers thought he was nuts. The casting of the medics on Squad 51 originally wanted the names to be Page and DeSoto. Jim Page said,”Better not”. He feared for his job. The medic Jim Page became John Gage.
