I am a Fire Chief and had a person walk into the Station with Tungsten Carbide ring stuck on an injured finger. The ring cutter did not even scratch the surface. I quickly researched this on the internet and used this technique to remove the ring. It worked great and the person was very thankful. Thanks to the help of our maintenance person as well.
You have just saved my finger i broke my fingers earlier this evening and the fire brigade couldn't even get it off, and i watched your video and you saved it thank you!! xx
You just don't see demonstration videos these information dense and smooth these days. Kudos
I had a tungsten toe ring that stubbornly refused to come off. It was too tight in the first place and when a small amount of fluid enlarged my toe further, it had to be removed. Following the excellent advice in this video allowed to me to quickly and painlessly free my toe from tungsten bondage and avoid any further problems. I was amazed at just how brittle tungsten really is.
I had to remove my ring from a bee stung finger this morning and the vise pliers worked great! Thanks!
This absolutely worked beautifully. Went to a jewelery store having forgotten my ring was tungsten. My ring dulled their cutting tool without taking a scratch. This saved me the horrible trouble of getting back into shape! cracked after 20 seconds of trying.
Great video - my wife was worried about this very issue. She was concerned that if I was in a car accident or something and injured my finger that the doctors wouldn't be able to get it off since it's so tough. Great explanation and great results. Thank you for posting this!
saved my finger thank you so much for the video.
Excellent post and saved me a visit to the Fire Station to get it taken off. Was safe and easy - Thank you very much.
Very cool. I've been told by a couple of jewellers that nothing could be done to get the ring off if anything happened. Nice little trick.
Great video For Emergency Room Personnel !!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this. I feel a lot more comfortable wearing a ring when I know how to remove it.

No, the material must have a nil ductility transition temperature above body temperature.
Thank You SO Much for Posting this!
thank you. this is the one concern i had about getting a tungsten carbide wedding band and you've put that to rest. i knew it could crack/shatter but this is an excellent, safe, and practical method to remove it
That is awesome! My captain and I just watched it. Good to know for EMS personnel. Thank you!
WOW so even if u have to break it you can return it... thats a GREAT deal
Thanks, great video. Used it a few days ago at the urgent care where I work.
Thanks! I was told this type of ring was more dangerous! on the otherhand, it is unlikely to bend into a finger like a gold one could if slammed in a door!
works a treat. thank you.
Wow! Even easier than removing a gold one. So I guess all those warnings about them were just what I figured they were.
Thanks!
Impressive video, thank you!
Great video!
you guys are da best
This is excellent.
Nice video, planning to buy a tungsten ring but wanted to know this :)
@azuldiablo08 apparently not, I know of someone who spent a night in A&E trying all manner of cutting tools without success, they eventually used the above method to remove it.
Amazing.
Well said. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that...
i laughed at the dr when he came at me with the ring cutter. didn't even mark the ring. trusty ol' vice grips.
Thank you very much for sharing this video. I have the same exact type of tungsten carbide ring. Useful information to know.
I love this video only for the accent. Narrator sounds like Bargain Bob or Dan Ackroyd. Such a cool voice
I love u, u save my finger !!!
cool.
Or a good quality vice - easier to control. Put put a plastic bag around to collect the pieces. Yeah really impressive that many think tungsten rings are so indestructable that they're unbreakable. As you see that's not the case. It might be stuck so it cannot get off without damage but cracking it isn't that hard with right tools (don't use a hammer! :D). Tungsten carbide is brittle and inflexible like glass albeit tougher and harder. That's why it keep up so good in everyday wear and tear.
I used a hammer and placed my hand flat on concrete. One smack and voila! No harm to myself.
so tungsten IS breakable.
"Tungsten carbide" is the hardest material ever to be used in jewelry creation. Pretty sure diamonds are harder, but if we're discounting gemstones, titanium carbide is still slightly harder than tungsten carbide.
What an awesome, helpful video. I can't believe people actually "disliked" it LOL
"in case of an emergency"
In Russia women crack ring by hand.
a jeweler's diamond saw will take care of it just as well and will not cut you, just the same as the saw used to remove casts from broken bones.
Olive oil
OK, ... I'm still not convinced... let's see you do it with the one on your finger now!!
Soap won't work if your finger/joint is swollen. So who is the moron? I would hate to be the poor sod that comes by you in this situation. Luckily it won't be me or anyone who watches this video.
