Otto is amazing. He's a Jack-Of-All-Trades, and is very generous when it comes to helping others resolve challenges. He is truly a man to look up to.
What is happening? I could be doing anything productive, but I choose to sit & watch Otto fix a drive shaft? Why? What compells me to watch this? I'll never own a boat. I'll never need shaft repair knowledge. It seems I got addicted to the problem solving skills of Otto Kilcher. I can't get enough of this wise crackin' wise man. The skill of one can help so many via KZread. Keep it coming. Thumbs up! I wanna see what project comes next.

Yeah I have like 5000 things to do, but this is the best. It's how our lives could be... imagine.
I've never made it up to Alaska but it's always had a special place in my heart. My oldest brother lived up there for many years he owned a nice house outside Soldotna he was the Captain of a long liner fishing vessel on the Bearing sea for many years. We still have the videos he used to send home I remember always being really worried about him some of the videos out there were just wicked waves and weather. He ended up getting a divorce from his wife and they moved out of Alaska. He moved to Wyoming and then remarried and started driving semi for the fracking fields. And on one of his days off he was driving his pickup down the interstate and blew a front tire his truck rolled several times and he lost his life. That was 6 years ago now he was only 57 at the time the same age I will be this August. Sure miss him. Sorry for the long story but every time I see fishing vessels or anything about Alaska I always think of my brother

The one thing that you can always be assured is that your brother lived his life on his terms...living in Alaska.

How can you not love Otto?!
I'm beginning to think that there isn't any thing that Otto can't fix. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos.
Thanks K's ..... skills for the win.... kids ..... old folks know stuff !
Fine precision craftsmanship Otto and crew!👍🏻
Not a lot of people today know what the suspenders colors represent. Used to watch the red green show every week. Love it. As long as you dont pick up his habits on fixing things. Lol

Otto’s suspenders are probably for boating. Buoys are red right up a channel and green are on the right going the opposite way. I’d be very surprised if he had seen the Red Green show.

@@meowjanet, I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut @OttoKilcher has watched Red Green. Steve (Red) would be right up his alley, entertainment-wise.

I love seeing this type of repairs. The Alaskan way.
So glad I stumbled across this channel I truly miss the tv series
Perty cool seeing the old timers machine things with a home made Cnc machine. Great work! Take care
Otto, I love watching your videos no matter where you are! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
Thanks Otto, brings back memories from the late eighties when I worked in Ship building/Repair in Tasmania. we did a lot of work on fishing boats. even got to work on an icebreaker that tried to break rocks. didn't go so well for the icebreaker's twin props and rudders
Always a Pleasure to see what you’re Working on. 👍🙏
BRAVO , THANK YOU OTTO , GREAT CREW - GREAT VIDEO. GREETINGS FROM CANADA.
Otto has a lot of Knowledge
That's pretty cool Otto. I wonder how many other people would attempt to take 0.003" of bend out of a 12' shaft with a hammer. Not many. Your experience gives you great confidence Otto.
Very interesting technique facing off that flange in place. Well done sir .
ATLF would never have dedicated 15 of video to display your actual trade craft. Great clip, you're an artist Otto
When I was in Alaska that was fun for me I don't sleep well anyway. I was home I love Alaska. Want to get back so bad. Blessings to anyone who has spent time there. Me Wyoming to Alaska is for me.
Thanks for the ride along OK! Just shows you how friendship and craftmanship work hand in hand! Great job! Until you next post!
Love watching him and his families keep on coming through to us. From ILLINOIS. Keep up the great advice and work.🎉🎉. This boat lift is so amazing to watch it move😂😂😂😂.
I love watching machining. I ran a gear manufacturing company for 32 years. We solved many customers problems. That is what makes your video so attractive to me. You are showing people how to fix things, solve problems and your enthusiasm is part of the charm of your videos. Thank you for another great video.
@OttoKilcher (a.k.a. Red Green - I.Y.K.Y.K,) THANK YOU! Thank you for taking us along on these wonderful adventures. You truly are someone I could call neighbor and be proud to have as a neighbor, and I do not say that lightly nor glibly. It's sad, but most people will never get to experience or understand how those who live in Alaska are a different breed, in a very good way, from the rest of America. Alaskans know that they need to rely on their fellow Alaskans to survive and sustain year round. I miss living in Alaska. I wish I had never left, and I most definitely want to go back. It's the only place that EVER felt like home. It's also sad that Discovery never showed this part on Alaska: The Last Frontier. The true reality of daily life on an Alaskan Homestead. There surely would have been more viewers if this part of Alaskan life had been shown on the show.
Another good one Otto Thanks for the video's 🇺🇲👍
Loved the machining on the engine side of the prop shaft, well done!
Otto's brain at work again👍! Nice of you to help out a friend! JO JO IN VT 💞
Nice Job Otto, the PG VERSION OF MY GRANDFATHER 🥰👍👍 OK??
It it's Otto I'm watching. Always great content , repairs, building , an other great content. It's very interesting an informative. Love the new channel, kelp healthy. Alabama's a big fan.
Too bad we can not be as friendly as YOU OTTO around the world that seems to thrive on distrust of another human being.
I’m looking into buying my own suspenders but genius are not the only ones who have suspenders on there suits 😂😂😂😂😂
Great to see you working your magic!
Fantastic job on straightening the shaft and flange. The machine shop I worked in straightened quite a few over the years 👍🇺🇸
It's pretty cool to learn new machining practices. Using that reshaped center drill and bar to face that couple was pretty cool !!
It’s so nice to see a few Keltcher family members on KZread!. You might find more subscribers.
Otto u are the man where wifie miss the show great to see u again please help them out!
My Dad used to stand pennys on their edge while balancing wafferizers in the osb industry. Love the precision. Love the channel. Welcome back all Kilcher kin.
That jig was genius.👍
You know the saying about the teacher and education, Great video, thanks for sharing.
i love to see u in your element wish u could be our president
Good job Otto. You're a great person
Still praying for your continued healing and success ! Much love for your entire family !
Enjoyed watching this. AMAZED that this is just generalized, random-access, day to day knowledge for you of how to fix stuff. Skills are being lost... Maybe you, the fam and others in the area could start a small "Homesteading Basic Skills School" 😯. That'd be cool 😎.
Otto, enjoyed the video. Always great to watch a machinist using their craft. Thank you for Sharing.
Sweet bush repair.
I enjoyed your video. It was interesting to see the process. Thanks for posting.
Hi from 🇨🇦 Enjoyed watching the boat going back into the water.
Great job you can fix anything. We enjoyed our tour of the homestead today the guide was great she knew so much even took a call from Otto while we were there wish we could have met him.

I love these fishing boats,I spent a summer on the kenai,in 2008,Homer was a favorite especially seldovia,I have a nice piece of artwork from seldovia too. great video you guys!!
You are a very special person. Great work
Very nice Otto , keep it up. Say hi to the family. Alberta Canada
Check the fit and face of the coupling..? Never mind you’re checking now. Could it be an out of balance prop? Damn you never cease to amaze with your ingenuity. we do a lot of that here in Maine, we call it ” Yankee ingenuity” but facing an engine coupling in the boat… you’re a machine! I once had do drill a 2” stainless rudder stock with the boat in the water I used one of those magnet mounts and a go pro articulating tri-pod to hold my jury rigged oiler. Took two days of drilling and went through half a dozen Wal*Mart pillows and a stack of oil-sorb pads.. -Born in AK live in ME
🦘🇦🇺.Love watching your adventures. Great job 👏 👍❤.
Land or by Sea, Otto is OK by me, cheers..
I love watching you I have a Friend that’s selling out in Homer he Works for NRA!
Nice job and insight into commercial salmon fishing in Bristol Bay.

I’m thinkin’ if I ever went to Alaska I’d never want to come home.
great video Otto!
Awesome 👏 job
Genius!
"OK" work, as usual, Otto! I have to wonder how much deflection you would see in that shaft with all of those variables in play while it was in the boat (although probably impossible physically). .003 in the shaft, and whatever each flange was off, over a 12' length at X RPM. I don't know much about boats, but I have to assume that the RPM of that shaft is 'relatively' low with a 12' span length and no center supports. And another thing to note that I was curious about is how much the deflection would have changed at each end had the rollers been situated at the points where the deflection was the highest. Also, I would have liked to have seen the deflection measured along the shaft with the rollers being right at the ends, as close as possible to how it was when installed in the boat. Great content as always, Otto! Looking forward to more! -Dusty
Next time please do not making a Whirlpool with your camera. There and back There and back. Move slowly with some words of descriptions. Thanks a lot. We are following you and your nice Family for 5 years indeed. ❤❤❤❤
great job
Maybe he could help you paint your landing craft .
Well done
Would have been interesting to see the boat lifted out of the water!
I shipped some Ribbed rubber mat to Homer maybe around 2012 to 2013, it is used a lot for sluices. I sold it on ebay.
really cool. id fit right in there.
That was awesome, Otto!! Did you really straighten that shaft just by hitting it with a ball peen?
OTTO!
Otto coloca legenda em português, eu sei que dá 🇧🇷🥰
I put new brake pads on my truck once
Can you drive that boat lift up to your place? You sure could use that for moving that old cabin.
Yes? Nothing worse that being out in the Ocean with non working Motor.
Whatever happened to the Constructor? Maybe I missed it somewhere.
OTTO LOOK UP KEN WHEELER AND MAGNETISM
Otto, what's happening with the Constructor?
Now get back to moving that shed 😂
CONTROLLING THAT MAGNETIC PERSONALITY IS THE GRAVITY OF THE SITUATION?
The Lord hasn't given us that wisdom yet. You're right on the mark. All wisdom is inspired by God.
Yes a sell out from him .
Mark 9:23-24 King James Version 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Gods blessings over you .
