A lot of people are asking what this is about, so I'll summarize it here. SPOILERS: A national emergency is declared, but for a long time no one knows why. Then, at the very last minute it is discovered that 10 nuclear missiles have been launched at the US. The EAS tries to get information out quick, but it is possibly too late for that.

I honestly think this one is the most terrifying simply because you don't know what's going on until it's too late (and I live in Vegas so I'd be screwed)

it's been two years since I requested this. so you guys know what it's about, lemme give you the low-down. The EAS is activated on a national level,but it can't transmit information cause almost every station doesn't have enough power (they aren't participating in EAN's), so they would be dummy stations, you wouldn't get anything out of them. The only station to have sufficient power is Channel 8, which is Las Vegas' and Nevada's primary station (where this EAS scenario is taking place). However the first time around, there are cuts in the parts of the important bits (I thought theEASexperience would put white noise instead but that's good still), so basically the transmission is faulty The second time around, the information is then passed on. Keep in mind, the scenario DOES go over ten minutes (the purpose of the EAS is to allow the President to communicate with the USA in ten minutes at most), so if the President talked to the US, everyone in Las Vegas would be totally and/or royally fucked since they wouldn't have any decipherable/guessable information.

I'm terrified of EASs, and the beeps are ear bleeding to me, but I somehow find these really fun. Maybe because I know they're fake. Or because some are based on stuff like movies or are too ridiculous to believe.

Social media would explode with people trying to figure out what's happening. Also, this scenario is horrifying.

EAS endecs are mostly automatic. if this was the EBS, then we'd be screwed.

Probably one of the most realistic scenarios.

This will drive everyone crazy.

They should have said: The Emergency Alert system has been activated to keep you informed, but we aren't going to because we're lazy and prefer to go to a McDonald's and raid the local Wal-Mart!

What's scary is that this is the exact EAN script and is likely what would really be heard in a nuclear attack. We would not have any clear information until it's too late.

On channel 999 in my area which is the Digital EAS channel for the NOAA weather center in Des Moines, Iowa, it's always like this, heck I was asleep at one time until my TV started to go off and I thought "shit! I gotta go downstairs", plus the tornado sirens were also going off at the time and my digital adapter automatically tunes in and I cannot go to another channel. A rude awakening but life saving.

You should do one on a Martian invasion of Earth like in the book The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. It’ll start of with the EAS announcement saying that after an unusual object crashing into Earth from Mars, large Tripod machines started to appear and attack cities, town, airports, docks, and military installations. Or you can do one with a Black Hole or Neutron Star entering our solar system.

I have another idea. Make another nuclear attack scenario housed in Puerto Rico. A missile is launched to Puerto Rico, but the missile is swept out of the air from a hurricane, posing a bigger threat, as a live bomb is in the hurricane and it is heading straight to Puerto Rico. Counter-strikes are launched, but it missed both the hurricane and the missile and it is headed to Florida, so after the EAS' in Puerto Rico, it goes in to Florida's EAS, saying 10 ballistic missiles are going to hit famous cities there. Also, the EAS for Puerto Rico should be in Spanish (using the Javier voice) and in English. I would recommend running the script through Google Translate and then maybe someone you know that knows Spanish, to then run through Javier's voice. I would recommend naming it "Disaster Keeps Striking" or something like that.

That's kinda the point of the tones... But in reality it has to do with radio waves...

It took until the end of the video to understand what "Lost in Silence" meant. No details to anyone until it might be too late.

I am making a modified version of the VCR OSD MONO font to correct one problem the original had, where the capitol Ss were incorrectly shaped like the lowercase ones, versus having the top and bottom parts being completely straight (if that makes sense). I will probably seek permission from the original maker before releasing though.

I have a good idea, a scenario based on the MW2 mission "Wolverines!"

Remember the old descriptions that told what was going on instead of the same description for every video

One thing I noticed is that with these things they usually use "interrupting" but "discontinuing" is instead used here.

Just out of curiosity, would closed captions show up during an EAS message if they are enabled for regular TV? I was wondering because otherwise, a deaf person would have no idea what the heck is happening.

This would be very SCARY

Just a quick question. Let's say a national eas was activated. I heard you will only get the alert if you are watching local stations, like FOX, NBC, ABC, The CW, etc. But if you are watching something on ESPN, NFL Network or HBO that does not have local programming, you are out of luck. Is that true? Or will ALL channels, including if I'm watching something On Demand or the DVR, broadcast the emergency? And let's assume I don't have my phone with me at the moment to tell me that there is an emergency action notification.

I know that on cable systems all channels are interrupted and tuned to the single information channel, I can't speak for sure in the cases of satellite broadcast, however, I would bet that if it were an actual national emergency then they would also participate in the emergency broadcast and interrupt any channel being watched.

For National EAS: Every station in the US would broadcast. For Local EAS: Only local stations will broadcast. BBC America does not activate for a chemical spill.

something and a couple of questions I would ask (someone who is knowledgeable with the EAS would be helpful): 1. "White House" and "NWS" sounds to *me* like the Yellowstone eruption. 2. For that matter, would an actual EAS contain that this was sent from the White House or would it be sent from NOAA or NORAD or some other agency?

NWS means National Weather Service. Plus, if Yellowstone were to erupt, it would be closely monitored by the United States Geological Survey.
