You gave Liverpool such a good name, I dont live far away, North Wales but havent been to sight see, I should definately visit. The mooring charges are very reasonable, think what you would pay in hotel, b+b, etc. All the volunteers, from the merseyside water rescue to the lock ones, all do a brilliant job. Lucky Paul you didnt have to wait long to get your detatched retina repaired, and we know your well on your way to recovery. Happy sunny days to you three xxx

It is a lovely city Susan and we have a soft spot for it. You definitely should give it a visit. We said the same about the mooring fee. The volunteers do an amazing job and we are always thankful when we see them. Paul’s eye is slowly getting better. Hope you have a good weekend ❤️

We love Liverpool and have been there by narrowboat three times. There is a great feeling of sadness when we come up the locks and leave Liverpool. We were lucky enough to be there for Eurovision week and all the boaters decorated their boats with bunting and anythind else we could find. Its a great city. Thanks for a great video with lots of memories. For anyone who hasn't been, the museums are all well worth visiting xx

Get well soon, Paul. That sounded very comfortable. I've had my share of surgeries the past 4 years due to breast cancer. As of July 2, I'll be in remission 3 years.

Hey Philip. I think detached retina is classed as an emergency as there is a real possibility of loss of sight if not dealt with within 48 hours. Sorry you are still waiting for your eyes to be sorted. It is very frustrating. Have a lovely week ❤️

Awww poor old you, bet that was a bit nerve wracking.. 👁️ I do enjoy your videos, such a good mix of you both chatting to us, bits of info about where your visiting, bit of banta, lovely scenery, great editing and music, hope you had a good birthday Anthony ❤. My ex kept his car and narrowboat so I remember the struggles but worth it. He was moored at Nantwich to wake up to smashing noises and someone trying to smash into his car with a rock.. needless to say he didn't moor there again.. see you next week lads.. 👍

Right finished watching the vlog, boy we got caught in two nasty storm and nowhere to pull up on those motorways, rain so heavy on the car you couldn’t hear each other talk. Anthony told me your eye was getting better Paul, all so very scary, I understand your anxiety but I so very much hope it continues to improve and quickly. Now I want to see Liverpool really looked brilliant. OK that’s me, should be in northern New South Wales by tomorrow night then Queensland the following day. For a little island hell it’s big. I'm glad Paul was "fixed" by the surgeons - Hope all is well now. I had a similar scare in France. I went straight to an Eye Clinic same day. After an exhausting high tech test - the verdict came - The flashing was caused by an allergy to soft cheese, an allergy I did not know I had. So, I was well cheesed off!! Take care fellas!! John

Of note, many milk products are not pasteurized in France as required in the U.S. So if you’ve had no problems with soft cheeses that are pasteurized in the past, you may not be allergic to the soft cheese itself but to something that is removed/inactivated by pasteurization process. Talk to your doctor.

Hi guys, my Father in law had the same thing, he also had to "look down" for 50 minutes per hour AND sleep face down for two weeks ! He found it very frustrating but we set a up a seat with a back that he would sit on the wrong way round with another chair that he could put a book or phone or laptop etc without having to hold them. He also tried sleeping sat up with a pillow on the back of the chair. He found it all VERY frustrating with a bit of nagging as we knew if he didn't, he would have to start again with a smaller chance it would be successful, he also had an injection in the eyeball to increase the pressure in it to help " flatten " the optical bit that I've forgotten the name of !😊 Anyway, I have an idea of what it's going to be like for the next two weeks, it's not nice but it is necessary. Chin down ! 😂

I loved the interview with the “Mersey Waterside Rescue”. What a great team they are. The thought of Dexter being pushed around in a trolly is amusing, I’m not surprised he was not keen on the idea. Bless him. Anthony buying his sweets again, but no licorice? The cruise out of Liverpool looked good. Did you remember your way out from where you were moored OK. Do you get given a map when you enter into the system? Really sorry Paul was ill. Having to go for various checks and then an operation could not have been nice for him. Hey Spoolbox. Liverpool is such an incredible city. We absolutely loved it. Didn’t know Billy Fury worked on the tugs. What a character Eric was at the hotel though. Not many people know about the 3rd Liver Bird. People are so selfless giving their time to something like the Mersey Water Rescue. Dexter wasn’t amused by the trolley 😂. The indignity of it. I love Jelly Belly jelly beans. Apparently, licorice can increase your BP. Never knew that. So don’t eat very often. He is getting there Leona. He only had to do it for the first day apparently? The aftercare was a little confusing but when he went back they said he didn’t have to keep his head down. 🤷‍♂️. Hope yours is all good now. Have a lovely week ❤️

You certainly had a great time in Liverpool. What a shame that Paul got a detached retina sure hope it’s mending well these things take a little time so speedy recovery to you Paul. Anthony you are such a good cook everything you make looks yummy. My hubby is finally recovering from his sepsis after surgery has had almost six weeks of antibiotics infusions every day sometimes these issues just take time. So take it easy you two and Dexter ❤️

Gosh, in 2016 it used to be to be free at the docks and you got free power. They were probably trying to attract people to bring their boats into the dock area and it sounds like it has work. We think it is well worth spending the money as it is a very special place.

Hi guys. So sorry to hear about your detached retina Paul. The same thing happened to me 5 years ago without warning. It was quite a shock, so I can totally empathise with you. I had 2 scleral buckles attached which was rather unpleasant. You were definitely in the right place to get it sorted. Wishing you all the very best for a speedy recovery. You really need to rest up and take it easy for a while. Take care. Graham

Hey Graham. It was a real shock when Paul had to go to the hospital. He is slowly getting his sight back. They wanted to do the buckle operation on Paul but the detachment was too big, hence general anaesthetic. Hope you are all good with your sight now. He is slowly getting his sight back. ⁠@@NarrowboatLifeUnlockedGlad to hear Paul’s sight is coming back. I still had the general anaesthetic as the procedure took around 3.5 hours. Unfortunately my retina suffered some damage during the detachment but I did get most of the sight back in it with a bit of distortion due to the buckle and retinal damage. Fortunately the brain is remarkable at adapting to these things though! 😊 I really hope that Paul gets a full recovery. 🙏 Tell him to rest up and follow the surgeon’s advice! 😉

Hope you recover completely. This could have been a commercial for Liverpool or the national health care system in the UK. Funny, because many here in the US portray all national health systems terribly, but it seems responsive in your case. Hope you get to Paris and enjoy it. If you've got any family history there in France, like warriors in the battles there, visiting the sites can be particularly meaningful.

Hey Philip. Liverpool was incredible, especially by boat. We have to say, they were really good with Paul in the NHS. Very speedy and responsive so fingers crossed, Paul gets his full sight back.
