The bobbin sensor on the 200/730 models has always been a problem. The best thing to do is to just turn that sensor off. You still have the more reliable upper thread sensor that will stop the machine in the event of a upper or lower thread brake. Models that use Berninas CB bobbin hook system don’t even have a bobbin thread sensor. Thanks for watching 😁

I just found your Bernina videos, did you still in business, did you sell second hand Bernina’s?

Got a 730 for a couple hundred bucks. The embroidery element was missing, but the letters and some other design elements are still workable. I just do not have the frame. So… is there a workaround when the hoop and the hoop older is missing?

I bought my 200E new in 2005 and have been very happy with it. A few years ago I upgraded to the 560, mainly to have a thumb drive capability. I’m now ready to sell the 200E, and I set it up to show a buyer how it works. Everything checked out, except the Bernina CD-ROM drive. This is original, came with the machine. I’m using the original connecting cord. The machine recognizes the CD, icon is active on the screen, but won’t show a connection (green spool never stops spinning) or load designs. Any suggestions? Since the machine is 14 years old, and is not made anymore, I don’t know if this peripheral is still available.

Has your firmware been updated or by any chance has there been a 730 upgrade of any type done to your machine like a updated ( back then) memory module with the 64mb of memory vs the original 32mb for the 200? Long story short... I have at least a dozen older cd drives that do not work with the 200 or 730 if the firmware has been updated to V4.04 or newer. There was also v4.51 and the last update was V5. You can use a small capacity thumb drive in the 200 if you have any of those 3 firmware versions I mentioned. Best to stick with a Bernina brand thumb drive that is 1gb in size or smaller. You can fit hundreds of designs on a 1gb or even a 500mb drive as embroidery file sizes are rather small. Back in the day I once stored designs on a floppy drive and they were only 1.4mb in size. Almost a shame that you spent all that $$ to upgrade just so you could use a thumb drive when you could of or might be able to use one in your 200 now. Again it should be a Bernina brand thumb drive 1gb or smaller in storage size. Again a long story about having to use a Bernina brand thumb drive in the 200 and 730 models as some “non Bernina brand” thumb drives do work but others don’t. Why that is? Never ever figured that out. Thanks for watching, this should help you out. Bill

Thanks for your insight, Joe. I don’t know if the firmware on my machine has been updated during a service. It has not been upgraded to 730. It was the same cost to upgrade as to buy the 560. Are these firmware updates available from a dealer? Thanks

I'm trying to embroider on a Bernina artista 200 for the first time. I just want to test a name so I typed in the name, chose small hoop, then pressed the quick reverse button and it tells me the hoop is not attached.

Without seeing the exact steps you are taking it’s really hard for me to give you an exact answer. Sorry for not responding sooner. I have been overloaded with Bernina questions this past summer ( guessing because so many are home worldwide with all the COVID lock downs) and I simply can’t get back to everyone. Thanks for watching, stay safe😁

Hi, I got out of the Bernina business back in 2018 or 2919. I still have some parts and accessories but I do not have any of the 200/730 style embroidery modules. I have some of the 180 machines and embroidery modules for them but those modules won’t work on a 200 or 730.

I'm trying to use this machine for the first time ... I've followed all your steps but when I get to the part where it does a few stitches it beeps then nothing happens. I get no error messages and it won't move. What am I doing wrong ? I've redid my threading for my top and bobbin, I've calibrated my machine.

So when you press the start button is should stitch out just a few stitches and stop. That is where you snip off the extra top thread. Press the reversing button again and the embroidery should continue. If there is something that would keep the machine from continuing you should get a error message. Without a error message I have no idea on how to advise you. Are you sure you are pushing the start/reversing button again and holding it in till the machine starts embroidering again after it has stopped after the first few stitches? I have found that some people press the start button quickly and when nothing happens they think something is wrong.

The 200 locking up is a common problem. It is mainly caused by the machines memory filling up and when that happens the machine locks up. So you need to turn off the machine and start over. The 200 was originally equipped with only 32mb of internal memory and the memory module upgrade gives you 64mb of memory. 200's were upgraded to the 64mb memory module to help prevent the lock up problem. A 64mb machine can still lock up if you have too many embroidery designs stored in its memory. Bernina uses the same memory to run the machine along with storing emb designs and you can see how well that worked out. There were also firmware upgrades that address this problem. So what can you do? First watch my video entitled Bernina check hours. In that video I also show how to check your firmware version and the amount of memory your machine has. Do you have any embroidery designs stored in your 200? If so you need to remove them. The machine is not the best place to store designs. If they are designs you really need to keep you will have to hook your machine to a computer and using a program like Berninas free ArtLink v7 you can remove and keep/send designs back to your computer. Beyond removing designs to free up some memory you would need to upgrade to 64mb and have the latest v5 firmware installed. V4.51 and the last v5 firmware addressed the lock up problem. Hopfully you can just remove some designs to cure your problem and then avoid a trip to a dealer for now. Even if you have 32mb of memory and older firmware, removing designs from the machine will still help.

I assume this is “EvError” message came up on the screen of the machine? The reason I ask that is that I don’t know if you have a computer hooked to the machine at the time of the error message. First thing I would check would be the small pins inside the end of the embroidery module plug. Make sure all the pins are straight and that there are not any that are bent over. Next I would hook up the module, go into the machines service screen mode and test the movements (functions) of the module to see if there is any communication problem between the machine/module and see if the module movements are functioning. That’s about all you will be able to test as the next thing I would try would be hooking up another module that you know has no problems. If the “test” module works just fine then you have ruled out a problem with the machine and move on to looking into what’s wrong with the module. I would suspect that the error message is indicating a problem with the embroidery module. Just a guess as I don’t have your machine in front of me. In the long run I would suggest picking up another embroidery module on eBay. Any Bernina module that works on the 200, 730, all the 400 series machines, all the 600 series machines and even many of the latest models (not the long arm machines) all use this same embroidery module. My logic in getting another module is that if you have a problem with the circuit board in the module you now have, getting another good priced module on eBay would cost you a lot less than having a dealer replace your board in your module. If you find it’s a problem with your machine you can always sell on of the modules back on eBay. Be smart and price shop for a module. There is a big seller on Bernina items on eBay who simply buys up Newley listed Bernina items, marks up the price and resells those items on eBay, so be smart about the price. I can be emailed at joekind@comcasr.net Be safe 😁
