Embroidery Hub Ep. 46: Heat Transfer Vinyl Applique | How to Do Applique with Heat Press Vinyl

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On this episode of Embroidery Hub, Laura goes over how to do heat transfer vinyl applique using our Ricoma commercial embroidery machine the 1501-TC and a heat press.
In this applique tutorial you'll learn why applique is a great way to cut down production time without losing perceived value. By combining glitter heat transfer vinyl and applique embroidery you will surely have people take notice as it makes any design pop.
Glitter vinyl is widely used in sports teams, dance teams, cheerleading squads and in many other cases. Glitter iron on vinyl is a cute way to make any garment stand out. Heat transfer vinyl is relatively cheap and cuts down on production time if used as an applique "garment" because it just tears right off so there's no down time with cutting.
Watch this Embroidery Hub episode to see why embroiderers do it and how to embroider applique with a few easy steps with an embroidery machine, heat press vinyl, adhesive spray, scissors, an embroidery hoop and a heat press.

    when you pulled the backing off the glitter vinyl, did you spray the adhesive to the peeled off side or does it matter?

    spray the back part of the vinyl- so the part that lays on the garment. the adhesive will help keep the material stuck flat to the garment while the embroidery takes place.

    Hello for this project all you need is the DST file and the special vinyl that was shown in the video. After the machine is done embroidering you just rip away the vinyl.

    I've got a vinyl pattern already stuck to a costume sleeve but I'd like it to look embroided. Is it possible to just stitch into the vinyl on the sleeve and it'll keep it's shape? Do I stitch around the pattern directly into the fabric or straight into the vinyl? I'm a complete noob with fabrics! Any guidance would be great!

    It is possible to create a design in the exact same dimensions as your vinyl but you would have to line up the embroidery design to the vinyl perfectly on the machine when you trace it, and make sure the material is hooped exactly in the middle of the hoop so it can automatically center itself in the hoop. It's a bit risky though because you'll have to eyeball it. What you can do is trace it carefully and create a basting stitch as the first color stop in your design to see exactly where the stitches will line up with the vinyl. The basting stitch is designed to come right off when you pull it with your hands so if it lands in the wrong spot, you can keep pulling it out and trying again until it lines up. Keep trying until it lines up perfectly. In other words, it's possible but you'll have to be very careful and trace your design accurately. Also make sure your satin stitch border is wide to allow room for error.

    If I don’t have a heat press can I use a normal iron??

  • @ricomatv

    @ricomatv

    3 ай бұрын

    Hi Alejandra, while using a household iron can be a viable alternative to a heat press for small-scale or occasional projects, keep in mind that heat presses are designed specifically for heat transfer applications and offer more consistent heat and pressure control, which can result in better quality and durability of the finished product.

    It's better with a heat press because you can control the among of heat and time, but if you don't have it don't worry you can use an iron. In my experience I put the temperature of the iron on synthetics and put a cloth or the paper on it or just the protective plastic of the vinyl and iron it without move in it for about 50 to 70 secs
