In this embroidery machine tutorial episode of Embroidery Hub, Laura walks you through the different ways on how to embroider stretchy fabric in order to ensure quality embroidery and avoid puckering and damaging the apparel. Puckering in machine embroidery is a common problem in the commercial embroidery industry.The stretchy characteristic is a quality of polyester fabrics that are commonly found in performance apparel such as gym and sports attire and other athletic wear. Embroidering polyester fabrics can be tricky, but by using the right backing, needles and hooping your stretchy fabric correctly you'll avoid puckering when embroidering polyester.

    Thanks for the video. Hooping is very important so I would love to see the entire process of that instead of skipping past it. Would be nice to see your tricks to smoothing out the material. Thanks

    Hello, Thanks for sharing. I have a janome one needle embroidery machine, was was quite a bit of money. The first time I tried to use a soft cotton baby vest, ( a onesie you call it in the USA), it just wouldn't stitch out at all. Great on cotton that doesn't stretch, but I came unstuck with the baby vest. I put in a new needle , 2 layers of stabiliser etc. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Please advise. Would be appreciated. Thank you.

    For stretchy fabrics, try a ballpoint needle and cutaway stabilizer. Is the material being hooped traditionally or floated? Is the design working on other fabrics?

    I am having trouble embroidering a design on 4 way stretch cotton. Its thickness is light/medium. I found that if i use a material called fusing fabric and iron on 2 layers of it, it prevents many of the issues i was having with gaps and puckering. Although, i still have a bit of tiny imperfections. I believe i need to sort out these kinks on Chroma and try a different stitch direction. Not sure why I'm getting gaps/skips in the middle of my letters (especially curved letters such as 'C' and 'G'). But if anyone else has any solutions or tricks, please let me know 😭

  • @ricomatv

    @ricomatv

    Correct. You want to use ballpoint needles on stretchy fabrics so that it doesnt puncture holes in the garment. Ballpoint needles slip in between the thread of the fabric.

    would be 75/11 ball point or 80/12 ball point? ...what's the difference? Thanks.

  • @ricomatv

    @ricomatv

    6 жыл бұрын

    75/11 ball point for most designs. I would use a 70/10 ballpoint for small or intricate designs. The higher the number the thicker the needle. You are going to want to stay away from thicker needles on stretchy fabric to avoid puncturing holes in the garment.

    So its not recommended to use a 75/11 needle? would a 65/9 needle be able to do the job? Or its best to purchase a 70/11?

    You can use 75/11 needles but you want to find ones that are made for stretchy material. It'll say it on the packaging!
