    This is a good video explaining the basic concepts of embedded systems engineering. I worked in that field for 20 years; I'm now retired. For some projects I would design the electronics and also code and debug the software. If you enjoy both electronics and coding, it can be a fascinating job.

    Since I can't decide whether to specialize in hardware or software then I think Embedded systems engineering 100% suites me as I Wanna work with software today and tomorrow I repair hardware and vice-versa for the rest of my life !

    More than anything, embedded systems engineering seems like an absolute joy! And this, I believe to be the main reason someone should get into such a complex field as embedded systems engineering.

    I want to point out that not all electronic boards are embedded systems (ES). In order a board to be an ES it should be "embedded"... yes I mean, many different hardware embedded inside a chip or in a couple of chips. Even though ES are now very common for the microcontroller (mc) popularity (which is in fact an embedded sistem itself) there are many electronics board that doesn't have mc or other sort of multi intregrated hardware like FPGA or ASICs. Not all ES are programable by the user, they are in fact programmable by the designer though.

    What is the difference between a microcontroller and a microprocessor and why can't I use my Raspberry Pi as a microcontroller?

  • @SilverRyuu

    @SilverRyuu

    8 ай бұрын

    Ik this was a year ago it might help anyone else in the future. From my understanding, A microcontroller is just a device that has memory, a cpu, and IO in one chip. It's essentially a tiny computer. A microprocessor is just a CPU on a chip, but doesn't necessarily have storage or IO built in on the chip itself. Microcontrollers have microprocessors in them

    Hey there Oliver, I am a automobile enthusiastic person, I dream of starting up my own automobile company, I thought Mechatronics would be better than mechanical and took Mechatronics for my btech, Do you think I made a good choice?

  • @OliverFoote

    @OliverFoote

    For auto companies I would recommend mechanical engineering. But more so I would recommend that you work on vehicles and begin to understand how they work, take a shop class and get hands on experience. The combo of engineering + experience means it doesn't matter so much what degree you took, because you know how to learn new information.

    of course Electronic Engineering EE. It has many digital system courses that are in fact aprox. 80% you need for learn about embedded systems. The other 20% is about especial hardware language like C, VHDL, Verilog, etc. Emebedded systems is not about the user application software is about hardware - system software. If you want to create an App, or some end user software, that is not related to embedded systems (ES) or may be receiving, processing or visualizing data from ES, then CS is your choise.

    FPGA is not an embedded system. It is a programable device. You can design an embedded system inside a FPGA tough. This means that you can create a bunch of interconnected independent hardware inside the FPGA and now it becomes an embedded system.
