Thank you for an honest and straightforward discussion of an issue many of us think about. I appreciate your straight forward approach without endless talking. Thanks!!!
Lol. I had this conversation with my therapist the first session. It broke the ice 16 weeks of therapy I didn’t get a erection but she insured me if I did no big deal . great she did a great job with me. She was fantastic therapist and I’m now 100% back to normal 😀 im blessed to have worked with her!

Nice to know this.
The guy who lives downstairs has a mind of his own, but not a conscience.
Needed pelvic floor PT and had a young woman therapist. Had been diagnosed as late 50s prostatitis but it was pelvic muscular disorder. She totally cured me with trigger release and groin massages and she taught me home exercises. I got an erection several times and once ejaculated during an exam when she touched my prostate. She was totally cool about it and it was fine. I was very lucky to find her.

Now that I am a lot lot older, I don't worry about it all that much. Also, we are both adults in the room right. So the sight of an erection should not be that much of a concern in a professional setting.
Erections are a gift, whenever and wherever they happen. There is NO reason for a man to be ashamed of getting sexually aroused, because it's how are bodies are meant to work! I love this video.

O…kay…not so sure that I agree with the ‘whenever and wherever’ part, though.
Let's get a couple of things straight here ... Dr. Susie, ... You are not only a 'Great Dr. ... You are a master of 'innuendo', .... I love what you did here ... and the first two times, skipping around this video, I didn't even see your 'stuffed animal' at 2:43 ... I love you Dr. Sus ...
Good advice. Patients really need to understand that we know that these things can happen involuntarily from time to time during exams. I always try to put them at ease and assure them it's completely fine. Having an understanding, sympathetic demeanor can go a long way.
Good video, I got one when my female doctor gave me an exam down there recently, I was really embarrassed but she didn't react to it or comment even though it was really obvious, I have been thinking about that a lot and been embarrassed but now I am happy to hear that it is a more common thing and it is probably not the only time that happened with her!
It's so pleasure to find this channel!
One of my consistent symptoms is really intense spams throughout the day and causes erections all the time. Every pelvic session I have erections. I mentioned it prior. It's never been a problem. Matter of fact for certain issues the erection helps with a therapeutic stretch etc.
An uplifting lecture.
She is in the medical field and i would never be ashamed to have this happen
This happened to me but only once when I was twenty when an older female doctor examined my testicles . I was embarrassed and put my hand over my erection and said "I'm sorry I can't help it. She smiled and said " no problem that's normal with young men".
Speaking as a health care professional- Here’s the thing: We really don’t care! We do care if your discomfort interferes with us doing our job. So we care about your feelings in a very pragmatic way. If you’re here for pelvic work or yes a prostate exam, your spinal chord may stimulate an erection. It’s not personal one way or the other.

It’s personal to me! I can’t think of anything more humiliating than getting an erection in front of a completely dressed female, or two. Often times, there are two women if a nurse is assisting the doctor. Let me ask you something. How would you feel if during your gynecological exam, a male nurse was standing behind the doctor, staring at your vagina? Female doctors and nurses always say, “I’ve done this hundreds of times. It doesn’t matter to me”. Who cares how you feel? It’s all about themselves with no empathy for the patient.

Thanks Doc. I wish more therapists had your insight. I went to a pelvic floor therapist and she seemed uncomfortable when examining me. I’ve always had a male physician when I was a kid till middle school. Once I’ve moved to a different city. My primary care physician was a woman. It was really embarrassing when I’ve got my first erection while she was checking me. Right in front of my mom. Talk about being traumatized.

It's natural for your body to respond .. a professional therapist is no stranger to human responses. Better to be a little embarrassed than ignoring whatever your health issue is.
Very interesting points and suggestions Dr. I've had several cases, especially when a female physician is examining me while a female chaperone is present..My biggest fear is getting an erection when getting a prostate check up or when a PFT is doing internal work on me
I can think of one health concern where the patient would be happy to get an erection during a pelvic health therapy session. That would be for the complaint of erectile dysfunction. Doctor, you've cured me in one treatment!.
"Let's get a couple of things straight" is a good way to start this....
Yes this has in fact happened to me. I have always had a female primary care physician. Like you mentioned in your video, this is very commonplace for some men. It's not anything more than that. I think it's more of a natural occurrence based upon who we are as a species. They always have been extremely professional and thankfully very knowledgeable. I actually prefer female doctors as a man myself. Thanks for posting!

I agree, I prefer having a woman as my primary doctor. I didn't always see it this way. The first time she gave me a complete physical I was scared to death. It was the embarrassment. The gloved finger, Dear God that wasn't nice that first time. She did the exam and acted as if it was the most natural thing in the World. She asked me lots of personal questions about how things were going "down there" because she found and epidemal cyst on my left testicle. She told me it was harmless. She's given me a physical for the last 5 years, and I'm not comfortable letting any other doctor but her examine me now. I think females have more to prove in the medical field, especially in men's health. But when they study and work at it, they're often so much better to deal with.

I agree, I find female doctors, therapists, massage therapists, etc. much more compassionate. It's not sexual, totally professional, it just seems like they care more what happens to you, whereas my male doctors are all about their egos. The first time my PT asked me about my ejaculations is was a little embarrassing, but I got over it and she cured me.

I recently sought Urology treatment with a new physician because of my Medicare insurance change. The urologist was booked up and so I was referred to his female P.A. Instead. I was fine with this in order to get a sooner appointment, and wasn’t nervous until an attractive young woman walked in and introduced herself! I began to get nervous and embarrassed as she began to ask me the personal questions that were obviously inevitable! I tried to be as open and Frank as I could, and then she had another young female enter the exam room before asking me to drop my pants for the physical exam! I was so worried about having an erection it went to the extreme opposite reaction! My penis size, normally 3-5 inches flaccid, was barely visible, and while the young assistant looked on, she examined my testicles and had me shuffle with my pants around my ankles over to the exam table to bend over for a digital rectal exam. I must have turned red in the face, because She began to apologize for what is usually quite painful for me as I groaned in anticipation! I have been diagnosed with BPH for many years and experienced all that goes with that! Afterwards, they both looked embarrassed for me! I thanked her for being gentle and seeming concerned, but I wanted to crawl under a huge rock! I’ve been examined by a female physician before(M.D. and my primary), but she examined me lying on my side facing away from her. She was older and more experienced, and acted very casual and clinical! On my next visit they scheduled me to see her for follow up and turns out I was suffering from a rare urological infection and she prescribed a long course of antibiotics. As I would see her multiple times for test results to follow, I became more comfortable with her and she examined me again for an enlarged testicle. After declining a second painful cystoscopy, and opting for a cat scan instead, the Urologist saw me on my final visit and was rude and dismissive to me, informing me, if I wouldn’t agree to a cystoscopy without anesthesia, he wouldn’t be able to help me or see me further! I’m not sure now if his PA even new about this, and wonder if I can ever return to his practice! She was much more concerned, professional and effective than the jerk she worked for, and now I have to search for another Urologist! Next time, I will look for a female Urologist! I still suffer with chronic prostatitis, BPH and now, erectile disfunction and anxiety! I can only imagine how the Urologist would have attacked me if I had had an erection(usually large) instead! Now I’m even more concerned about it in searching for another female Urologist! But, I’ve had too many aggressive exams from male Urologists, that I am sold on female care and therapy!😏
In my view, the patient should simply accept that this may happen. It's a normal and natural thing. Women may likewise exhibit discernible signs of arousal during certain examinations, massage, and other "hands-on" procedures.
I was actually happy to see it.The nurse did say it does happen. No issues.
We don't have to apologize for what our bodies look like, even if one part happen to be filled with blood. It's a normal look for a man.
Yes, a very good bit of advice here. Wish I had seen it 20 years ago. I have an erection every time I am examined in this area. Much more relaxed about it now fortunately.
...."Let's get a couple of things straight here" hahahaha!
Very good explanation, thank you 🙂
I've been getting yearly physical exams for 45 years, and never had what you call, "a session" or a pelvic exam. Does that mean all the docs (almost all female), don't know what they are doing??????????
My urologist is a woman. I've not had an erection during any visit with her. I think it would be perfectly normal to get an erection. I think many guys such as myself would be seeing medical professional because we have difficulty. It's the truth.
I had a prostatectomy in 2009 but the surgeon was unable to perform the nerve-sparing procedure. I had two aggressive peripheral cancerous cell in my prostate. I still had elevated PSA and underwent 37 radiation treatmenst in June and July 2013, IMRT. The radiation burned my bladder and I was leaking over one gallon a day. I did see a pelvic floor specialist in Septermber 2013. She tested my kegel strength twice and I did not become aroused but I have to admit her hand on me really felt good
I told two girls that it happens to me when I wake up that I'm not thinking anything and both of them said it's normal
Had to laugh a bit at 1:18 at the irony of her saying 'If your therapist doesn't bring it up' when referring to talking about it in advance.

dr susie what is your speciality?
I have never had this happen. Perhaps because I am a social nudist and have never seen any nudist get an erection at a nudist resort. I am sure it must happen, but rarely. I don't view going to a health appointment (doctor, nurse, therapist) as being sexual.
It happened to me. I can't lie the Dr was cute but the touching got me it was awkward at first but she was very nice and said it was ok it does happen. I do now communicate to my newer Drs that this has happened. It's always gone well. Great advice 😊
The past 10 years I have only seen woman Dr's over the past 10 years . None of them checked down there. Is there a reason they don't check down there?
I had a testicular scan when I had a kidney stone and it was done by a woman. I didn't have any issue with that but I was telling my friend about the scan and he said he'd be really concerned about that happening. I just thought it was a very medical, professional, situation so I wasn't really having those thoughts that would normally cause it to happen. I also figured if it does, she's a professional, she probably does stuff like this every day, so it's probably not a big deal.

What's to be embarrassed about? The amount of doctors that have encountered this in their career is beyond comprehension. If they can't handle it doing the specialty that they do then they need to move on to another field. It's not so important what the doctor sees as to what the doctor does with it 🤣
Interesting topic thank you
I've had female doctors for over 30 years and that never happened and I was a life or figure model for 20 years and never posed with an erection. I put my mind in a clean place and didn't have an issue?
Here the doctors tend to be especially harsh in their visits, I guess in order to avoid this kind of situations. It works, but it's very traumatic, during and afterwards.
My doctor told me my pelvic muscles feel thin. She didn't explain or offer any details. ???
In my experience the female doctors that I have, have never gone close to my "parts" never mind talked about spontaneous erections.
I wish I saw this before I went to my PT. I got shamed for getting an erection, and it stopped me going to therapy for months.
OH! Just let it happen and enjoy ! Its a good sign you can still get it up 🤓
Thankfully it hasn't happened with me, painful injuries and illnesses every time made it unable,
Just try to think about unpleasant, unsexy things (work, Brussel sprouts, dog 💩) until it passes!
Never had one. Only talked to a doctor about anything sexual once i think. 51 and brought up Baptist so we usually don't talk about sex unless we have to.
My female urologist and female GP at the VA are both fantastic. I would not change anything.
I wouldn’t get in trouble for getting an erection, right?
Can't wait to make an appointment doctor.
It’s been embarrassing every doctor’s visit. Praying it wouldn’t happen AGAIN, just to be embarrassed once more. I heard that the doctor has seen it all. That never worked for me. Haha.

I’ll be 75 in a few months. Never had/never heard of a Pelvic floor exam by any Dr. Intern, PA, or Nurse practitioner. I have also had total body, head to toe and all in between exams for any type cancer since 2009 after having a melanoma in the center of my back cut out. Since it was a Military teaching hospital, it was always done twice once by the intern/jr resident and once by the old timer doing the teaching. Every single one skipped over my genitals except one very cute young female. I must say she examined every inch of me. One purple spot on my little head, the one that doesn’t think much, after turning twisting it, rubbing it to check for elevation, I finely told her. That’s nothing ma’am, caught it in a zipper when I was a kid. She said, “oh ok then enough of that” then went on about the exam. I was scared to death she was going to say, I think we need to take a biopsy of that and send it to pathology.

Stupid question but if a guy had an erection during an exam would it mean he had feelings of any kind?Or just a physical reflex?
I look at erection's and ejaculation's as a good sign that everything is working and working as everything should be working. Not to mention if for some reason or another I was fortunate enough to have a prostate orgasm that would be a huge plus. I have had Prostate orgasm's before but now that I would like to have a prostate orgasm it seems like I'm all dried up and sure out of luck.

Just being honest. I prefer a female doctor ALWAYS but my experience is that female general practitioners and internists rarely check male genitalia during am annual exam. I have told my sons to see a male for this reason. It seems like they fall short of the standard of care simply because they do not feel comfortable and should have considered this before going into primary care medicine.

I agree from my experience . But , I think that’s the case with all GPs I’ve had, male and female . However , I had one exception when I had a physical where the female Dr seemed to go out of her way to see and touch my genitals during a physical although I made no statement that I was having a problem there . I honestly think she just really wanted to see/ touch me . But it’s all good - I didn’t care . I got little stimulation from it . But I know she did it just to see me - but I was much younger then sigh. I’ve had a different woman GP since then for 15 years and she has never seen me there - and seems to go out of her way not to. And I get a physical every year.
I wouldn't worry much about this because its involuntary.
