Looking at the 1970 RCA 4 LP Boxset release of Elvis’ Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits, Vol.1. Vol. 2 was released in 1971 and that will be covered in my next video. Stay around till the end as I also show the 1998 CD release of Vol. 1. Thanks for watching and stay safe.

We used to own the 8-Track version of this album back in the early 70's. And yes, we were the kids of the Elvis era, thanks to our mom. Unfortunately, we only had Volume 1 on the 8-Track. I never knew of Volume 2 even though I know the songs. "Playing For Keeps" was always my favorite from the 8-Track...still is a favorite of mine today. Thanks for sharing and posting this great album! Gonna check out Discogs for this since records are back in style.
I searched this box set for years!,and in July of last year i found!!!!.The sound is gorgeous!!!
Great video, still on my list those boxsets 👍
My parents brought me this for my 12th birthday in 1976, looking forward to volume 2
Hello Ed a nice review I like your Haircut
wonderful
I have an original copy. 3 different booklets were available depending on which pressing you bought. The booklets were available at his concerts as a souvenir Don't know how long the set was available with a booklet. Great episode sir.
HI Ed, I BOUGHT this set August 26th 1970 paid 18 dollars and sixty cents and that was with sales tax. The most expensive LP set was Woodstock.I also have the cassette version. Some where something happened I bought LP set again in March of 1973!The inner sleeves from the cassette version show the pictures from Almost In Love and the Christmas albums which were not released until October and November of 1970. The sound on this set was superior to the CD sets that out in 1987 on the tenth aniversery of Elvis passing. There were only 37 singles that made up this set.
I have these one too VOL 1 & 2 two UK versions and one US version ( VOL1) all in mint condition, very glad to own these 😉👍
There is a black label. I have it and the tan label. Both in great condition. Great video!
Hey there Ed,, what a fantastic box set. Thanks for showing and sharing with us this fabulous part of history. Cheers mate👍
Good vid and a great set, Ed.
I have this vinyl mono box set and all I can say is it sounds fantastic on my system set up for mono the vinyl is dead quiet and the songs are clear and dynamic,,, this is a steal considering what a good quality 70's set goes for , a must have for the Elvis Vinyl listener. I have the 77 black label set ,,,it didnt come with extras but mine is a promo copy so maybe the extras were left out for that reason,,regardless the sound quality makes up for it
This set is now definitely on my wish list. After some research, I found out that it was also released in France. I think it would be easier and cheaper for me to find a UK copy.
I’ve got 5 of those in the box and when they released them individually, I’ve also got 6 total of the books, it’s a great set, still play it today
One of my Vinyl fav box set. A beauty.
I have the same set and that book included is really nice.
Nice box set. I bought the original box set upon release in a tiny record store that also did RCA TV sales and repairs in Canada. Over the years, my album cover has faded and some songs featured are totally faded. Volume 2 is better because the cover doesn't fade like this box set.
I do enjoy these box sets very much. Maybe one day they will remastered them on vinyl and maybe on FTD CD with the mono mixes. That would be cool. FYI there was two different booklets this box came with at that time. I own them both
Nice video haircut guy. Here in CA no haircuts yet. I’m thinking ponytail. CA Ed
HI ED and great video i need to get me a much better copy of that lp set and volume 2 2 great sets i also have that volume 1 on cd and it also have the Elvis sails it is on disc one nice cd set but the lp is much better but thats me and there both nice to own..and i am having a hard time find the volume 1 and 2 on vinyl for the right price but i am still looking..
I have this Ed, bought it on eBay a few years ago for a good price! It has the photo booklet and the original picture sleeves. The box is also in good condition. Original USA , 1970 pressing.
I really like the cover of the box with the 50 songs in gold discs. Great.
I have this, really nice set. Mine is in pretty good condition with all the extras. Thanks for sharing.
Nice one Ed, i've got the CD box set bootleg containing both vol's, which came with miniture copies of all the inserts of both volume's! great release for a bootleg! PS:- Like the snazzy haircut!
Picked up a copy of this and Vol.2 for cheap recently. The boxes are knackered and they have no inserts, but the LPs are in very good condition. UK versions found in a collection for sale in Australia.
Hi Ed. I have that same box set I bought used copy years ago from a record convention. I have the same booklet and orange label. This is an original Canadian pressing. The inner sleeves are all 4 are plain white with large RCA in red printing. It is not the flex version but hard vinyl like yours. and looks to be good shape. I haven't played it yet. At that time they were in mono I read because they did not have the technology to put the stereo and mono tracks together on the same records like they could do now. That is why all 4 records were in mono.
Just picked up one off these aldumns with Sunday time paper, Sunday Times magazine Elvis Special 1977 and a Look-In magazine Elvis special 1977. It doesn't have the picture book and does have a pull out leaflet listing all songs on Album along with adverts on reverse side.
Still love this box. I found it again not too long ago in pretty good shape. It is the 71 pressing with the different photo book.
The first ever official Elvis Presley box set yes and it was the first ever Elvis Presley boxer I got in Great Britain we got this released exactly the same but the records are in the paper sleeves as you say 45 sleeves white paper sleeves with just the label showing no pictures and the free photo brochure
Yeah I've owned my copy of this for almost 45 years, I was 10 or 11 when my mother bought me a copy (she also had her own) in 1975, as mine has the tan labels and no photo book. Its still in good shape, was listening to it tonight, actually. Box completely intact and perfect, records just as good. (By the way, the tan label records are WICKED thick. I swear they feel like 180 gram vinyl, but I don't know if they ever released that thickness in 1975, but I was surprised how heavy they were.) My volume 2 has slightly more wear, as the box came detached over the years, but that's really the only issue, it still looks nice. For some reason the article of Elvis clothing and poster is gone, but the records are all in NM condition. That poster in vol 2 is kinda goofy anyway. Also: There were some tan labels ('75 pressings) that did have the book, however as I said before mine did not. Additionally, this was never released on a black label. Just orange and tan.

@Paul Gwyn I stand corrected. I had looked through discogs and no black labels were listed in the database. Either I missed it or their database is incomplete. Nevertheless, thanks for the correction. (No sarcasm.) 👍
TCB Ed great album I have the 2 CD set and it does have Elvis sails take care and the suite he wore at gas station in clambake was cut up and included and other editions clothes people sent him was included take care.
Couple of intresting photos in the booklet being, the strange two from 68 special (rehearsal blue denim shirt?) And the 69 elvis with gretsch guitar, remember in the 50s he used martin acoustic.
besides the three song titles you mentioned, the only other song to make its album debut in this box set is the song Viva Las Vegas
Ed - my copy of this album is in better condition than your copy, but mine is a later pressing with tan labels. Also, my copy does not have the photo booklet. When I first bought it (probably around 1978) I played it quite often; sometimes late at night when everyone else in my household went to bed. I would put the discs on the turntable, turn the volume down low, and lie down on the floor next to one of my speakers. Being in mono did have an advantage in this case.
I prefer the new DES stereo mixes of the early songs.
I have the Box set. The CD set I believe by what I have researched is that it has Suspicious Minds with no fade out and fade in. Can you let me know if that’s true Ed. I’ve never been able to get that version which is what I heard on AM radio back in the day. Thanks for the video.
Yes, i had that album on the late 70s black label. are the original mixes on cassette? They were released in 2 ways on cassette on 4 cassettes sold seperately or 2 cassettes. While Vol. 2 cassette were only available on 4 cassettes.
Have it...🇵🇱
Hi. Just come across your video. My box set doesn’t have the writing on the front top right corner that says about the magazine. I have inscription on the side of the box and all of the same writing as yours. My sleeves are different too. Mine is also mono. Any ideas as to why they are different? Thanks.

Ah I just heard you say about the RE as a later release. That must be mine. 👍
I wonder if you could do some research of the song first in Line, is there only one take?
No 2 had a piece of his shirt?
Gold records 1 - 4 in a box ?
Ed - I was always confused as to why they would make a stereo track mono - but perhaps it was cos many people in 1970 still had mono HiFi

This particular set is in mono because all of Elvis' 50's recordings simply weren't recorded or mixed in stereo, as stereo playback on LP didn't really become accessible to the masses till the late 60s. As for the later tracks, you have to remember that these were singles intended for play on AM radio, which at the time didn't broadcast in stereo, so special mono mixes were made to get the best sound out of one speaker. While antiquated now, many still prefer to listen to Elvis and many contemporary artists in mono, for the more raw, punchier sound compared to the stereo mixes of the same material.

@@disionity9716 ||| Correction: ELVIS IS BACK was 1960, and touted for its wide RCA Stereo sound (Elvis' first in Stereo). So, "not accessible till the late 60s" is way off the mark. Besides the 45s & e.p.'s, almost all of his music was released in stereo from then on.

@@rstvmo He’s right that mono into the ‘70s had a edge...
