His friend Jerry said that Elvis is one of the greatest unrecognized music producers of all time. He was reportedly in charge of every aspect. You should check out his version of green green grass of home. It’s fantastic, of course.

I think Elvis recording sessions were pretty much like jam sessions. Listening to outtakes he could be clowning around one minute and straight into amazing vocals the next. A truly special and gifted human being ❤

The only way to describe the feeling that Elvis gives you is that he always sounds like he's singing from his soul right to your heart. You should try his version of "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen" and/or "Danny Boy" (not the original from the 50's, but the one from the 70's). I compared Bing Crosby version of "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen" to Elvis's version and poor Bing doesn't/can't give it the pure emotion that comes out of Elvis's version.

Lovely reaction as always. Rehearsals with Elvis were often relaxed and if someone went wrong, Elvis would often blame himself He appreciated working with talented people, on stage he’d always acknowledge them. 👌💕🕺

It was filmed for the "on tour" documentary. Its a "mock session" to give the film team some session bits out of the live concerts filmed. This song was sung 10 years prior to Willie Nelson doing the song.

During this period of Elvis he had two bass singers. You can see JD Sumner and Richard Sterban in the background. Richard has been with The Oak Ridge Boys for many years now.

Thanks Nick, I enjoyed your commentary! I am so thankful that footage exists of Elvis doing rehearsals. Here, we get to see him relaxed & surrounded by his band members & backing singers, they were people he handpicked & was comfortable with. I know Willie Nelson had a hit with this beautiful ballad, but Elvis' version is more passionate & emotive & truely belongs to him IMO. Definitely one of Elvis' best from the '70's. Yes you are right Nick, it was filmed for "Elvis On Tour" 👍

Hi Nick! Yes, this song is a beaut. I have seen this particular clip a number of times and admittedly, I find myself always lamenting the sunglasses that hide his eyes which in turn has me refocus on the use of his mic. He used it as an instrument, mastering its distance to the rise and fall of his voice. It’s mesmerizing as it seemingly becomes just him and the mic. Hope your first week as a fifty year old has been filled with only the best! Ill see you next Sunday❤️

This is the time when Elvis was sadly diagnosed with secondary Glaucoma and was undergoing treatment to ease the pain he was in. The glasses were necessary to protect his eyes from bright lights. Plus he was on life long medication to stop the progression of the disease which would have blinded him. 😔💕🕺

The footage from "Elvis On Tour" was higher quality. You could see the background sings and the interaction facially between them and Elvis. At a certain point when Elvis dips low he looks smilingly at J.D. Sumner, the bass singer. The other guy, in the tight screen version you showed was Red West. Red was a good singer in his own right, and he composed a number songs for Elvis and other singers. Just going by Wikipedia, Gwen McCrae was the first artist to release the song. One day later Elvis recorded it. However his version wasn't released until seven months later. Brenda Lee released her version three months after Gwen's version.

Elvis was not truly loved by the woman he chose to be his wife then Priscilla...she gave up too easily. It broke his heart and didnt last much longer in this cruel world.
