I've seen this video many times, and I only noticed today that those are not real instruments, but cardboard cutouts with some great artwork on them!!

You're right, I noticed it too! I guess making the video monochrome helps make the paint less conspicuous.

It’s crazy to think this was considered to be super “edgy” back in the day. The concept of convicts being the main focus/protagonists and Elvis’s moves was met with controversy. But it didn’t matter, because just like a lot of his music and movies, the success and popularity overshadowed the controversy. The song was a big success, staying at number 1 on the US Billboard for seven straight weeks! Elvis was INSANELY ahead of his time, and changed popular culture forever :D And he’s still a legend in 2023!

I never really listened to the lyrics, but I recently read about the homosexual undertones (if that!) of the song. I mean, if you're a guy and the prisoner next to you is "the cutest jaibird you ever did see" that's obviously another guy, lol.

It's hard for some people to realize that this hip shaking, high energy superstar performer was actually a calm, mild, thoughtful human being when he wasn't performing. You can tell by the way he speaks before he is introduced to perform, but then he morphes into ELVIS mode when he hits the stage. Even today, the person on stage rarely resembles the person off stage.
Still one of the most iconic musical scenes in film history. You can never get bored with this scene!

No one in the world will ever be what Elvis, prime Elvis, is right here! He is soooo beautiful!
I just saw the new Elvis movie in theaters, and Austin Butler really did justice to this legendary singer! The Presley family must be very proud of him.
This movie was a top favorite of mine when I was young. It was released on July 9, 1957. The rock and roll really had the older people upset over it. However, the woman who played Peggy Van Alden was Judy Tyler born on October 9, 1932. She died on July 3, 1957 in a Wyoming car accident with he second husband that she had just married on March 31, 1957. This was just a short time after this movie had been completed. She was dead on the scene and her husband died the following morning. She never got to see the movie. Elvis was never able to watch the movie because of her death. It hit him very hard.
65 years ago ! But Elvis' moves + voice were FRESH🕺✌️and never "old". Talent, pure Talent.
Gosh I love Elvis. He never fails to put a smile on my face. So mesmerizing.

The King and there will never be another one like him.
Imagine sending him to the army to suffer but he had a good time with the army, meet his future wife, and inspired him to be an artist even more 💀💀💀💀

They broke the mould when they made Elvis.

This was the Elvis sound I enjoyed the most , raw young voice just belting out the songs .
He had it all! He was very handsome, nobody could dance like him, and his voice was extraordinary! A lot of men in his audiences must have been very jealous of him. I can’t believe he got so much criticism early on in his career for breaking segregation laws and inducing people into lust over his dancing. It was not his fault people don’t have self control. And I can’t believe that we ever had segregation laws in America that separated society based on people’s skin color, how stupid that was. He was light years ahead of his time! I had no idea that BB King and Mahalia Jackson were such huge influences on his music. Rest in Heaven, Elvis Aaron Presley. You left this world much too soon.

" WE " didn't have Segregation Laws in this country Andy. I grew up in Ohio and they did not exist. Only the KKK White Supremacist DEMOCRATIC Party had Segregation Laws because THEY designed and enacted them . Democrat Party Boss Bull Connor was proud of the Jim Crowe Law he used to beat , arrest and terrorize black people. That's why MLK was a Republican and Frederick Douglas. Only truly EVIL people could establish the KKK and Jim Crowe. They are still here today and Joe Biden is their proud Racist Leader.

True Story: I had a friend who was in the county jail. He and a bunch of his "buddies" called into the radio station the DJ accepted the collect call and they requested this song "Jailhouse Rock" and the DJ did play it for them!

Elvis you will always be 'young and beautiful to me'
It's hard to focus on the overall choreography when you have Elvis Presley amongst all the others. It's like you're focused on him and only him amd don't really pay attention to anyone else in this scene unless you force yourself to. It just goes to show you how big his presence was whether it be in Concert or in a Movie.
