Pluto, one little reaction I want you to notice . When Elvis asked his quartet the Stamps to sing he would listen. He smiled when he heard the very low register of JD Sumner before starting his singing again. He admired all the back up singers but he always wanted to do the low voice and practiced to gain control of his voice. So much to learn about this special man. Keep up your Elvis reactions.

Keep in mind this was a gospel performance at a secular concert, and back in that era no one could get away with that, only Elvis. He grew up being taught Jesus and singing gospel with his parents, going to the Baptist Church; it was in his DNA and he never forgot those roots and always sang gospel, after concerts during concerts, at home, it didn't matter! In this industry, if you mention the Name of Jesus, it will empty out the room, but Elvis so loved Him, he didn't care about the backlash. He did it anyway! ❤😊 He also knew that it brought a smile to his mamma's heart. I think a part of him continued on with it in remembrance of her even when she left this world. Dig your reaction! 👍

From the very beginning of his career Elvis did not shy away from his religious up bringing. That’s why he was so humble and respectful of others. First appearance on Ed Sullivan he sang Peace in the Valley for his mother and it was included in his first album. On his chest he often wore a chain and cross.

Elvis Presley was a gospel singer. He was paid to sing as he said ‘That bubblegum music’ but gospel music is what he sang. Elvis Presley recorded three gospel albums. ‘His Hand in Mine’ (1960), ‘How Great Thou Art’ (1967), ‘He Touched Me’ (1972). Elvis Presley was a man who loved Jesus and wanted to reach the whole world for Him. In his lifetime Elvis Presley won three GRAMMY Awards all for his gospel music. A book worth reading is “The Faith of Elvis: A Story Only a Brother Can Tell” by Billy Stanley. My favourite Elvis Presley is “Without Him”. This song describes my life.

You should also check out "Take My Hand Precious Lord", "Peace In The Valley", and "In The Chapel" among just a few of his more popular gospel songs.

Great reaction and I agree with your score. You should follow this up with his last recorded performance of this song. Practically on his deathbed in severe pain just seven weeks before he passed he performed it again and tore the house down. Not a DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE. If you would like to know how his faith was up until the very end, you will have no questions after you listen to version in 1977. He could barely stand. His speech was slurred. He was on a lot of painkillers to kill all kinds of pain that he was suffering from ( He had about a dozen different diseases all at once, including severe inflammation of his organs). But his voice never failed him right up till the very end. How great thou art 1977 .

After concerts in Las Vegas, he would relax by singing gospel in his suite. I'm sure it was his happy place. His musical influences growing up always stayed with him. I never thought it strange that he would perform religious songs at his concerts, but I suppose it was unusual and would definitely seem a bit odd today.

Elvis' gospel influences guided many of the songs he sang. Take a listen to UNCHAINED MELODY from his last concert in 1977. The performance is live, and Elvis is in bad shape, but he pours his heart and soul into this song as though it is his salvation. The church burns through his phrasing and from his heart. It shows that even though he is clearly in decline, his voice carried the message in the music. Enjoy

I agree with you 10/10. Who else would stop a rock n roll concert to sing gospel? Elvis did. He won grammy's for all his gospel albums. He lived and breathed it. His back up singers, said that during rehearsals he would stop and they'd just all sing gospel together.

Elvis was deeply religious and his gospel performances are some of my all time favorites, I just love them. This is one that is performed with J.D.Sumner, that deep deep bass voice you'll hear in almost all of his gospel performances, and The Stamps quartet. Its called Sweet Sweet Spirit kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6ibj8acmpzdZM4.htmlsi=JAHX1V1rTD-eVnag You can see how deeply this song effects him and also he and J.D. Sumner had a great friendship. Elvis loved his voice and even off stage they would sing gospel songs together. I hope you enjoy learning about Elvis and the touching gospel music he performed.

God created the world in 7 days. On the 8th day, he created Elvis. He was showing off his best work on this 8th day. This man is not a result of mere genetics...God did this. I have been a fan for years. If you like his gospel, try listening to his Live From Hawaii "You Gave Me A Mountain" and, in my opinion, his finest work "Tomorrows Never Comes", which is a ballad.

The only singer who comes anywhere close to Elvis singing this song was the great George Beverly Shay who sang with the Billy Graham Crusades for many years. He is worth checking out out.

He really grew up in an assembly of God church, where it was more charismatic, high spirited and spirit filled. That's where he learned to express his feelings more and danced before the Lord, people fainting in the presense of the Lord. He just visited the baptist church from time to time.

How many concerts can you go to where the singer sings country, blues, Gospel and rock in the same concerts. I have never heard about anyone else.

Do yourself a favor, WATCH all of Elvis's videos that you do. Don't take your eyes off him, you will miss something, guaranteed. Like you did in this one. There's a better version of this, shows more of Elvis.
