1983 my little 5 yr old self was taking a walk around the park holding my mommas hand. There on the ground was a collectors card with a picture of a young Elvis on it. I declare to my mom that he’s going to be my boyfriend. My mom tells me that it would be kind of hard since he’s not alive anymore. I tell her I don’t care he’s still my boyfriend. Yup, Elvis was my first love and I know I’m not alone with that statement. 😂🤣

When I was a little girl in the 1970s I was in love with Elvis Presley and wanted to marry him. I collected anything I could get my hands on about him, 8-Track tape, vinyl records, magazines etc. Then I saw on T.V. that he had died and I watched coverage of his funeral. I was devastated, crying.

Elvis chose not to do the speaking part here! He must have been tired of saying it,because, as you saw, he started laughing in the middle of the first sentence & then returned to the song! Since you never heard this song before I will provide the spoken part that is in the original recording, (which you really ought to listen to because it shows what a great actor Elvis was & his deep spoken voice is magnificent!) It went like this; "I wonder if you are lonesome tonight!,Someone once said the world is a stage & each must play a part. Act 1 was when we met ! I fell in love with you as my sweetheart! You read your lines so cleverly & never missed a cue !,Then came Act2; You seemed to change. You acted strange ! Why I 've never known ! Honey, you lied when you said you loved me & I had no cause to doubt you! But I 'd rather go on hearing your lies than to go on living without you! Now the stage is bare & I am standing there with emptiness all around & if you won't come back to me, then they can bring the curtain down!" (In case you are wondering, yes I do have a life!! It has however , been enriched with the music of Elvis Aaron Presley! I am just a fan but know how to appreciate quality when I see it! This is why I share these verses with you) You are absolutely right , he was an absolute professional ! He never allowed little distractions to interrupt his performances! He remained relaxed & loved what he was doing at every moment! His words came right from his soul! He never took himself too seriously ( curled lip.comment) Yet ,he delivered his lyrics with musical love! "Are you Lonesome Tonight " is one of his many masterpieces! Check out the original, vintage version,! It will blow you away as well! Thanks again for sharing our love for our dear friend! Perfect reaction, as usual!

He seems to be able to laugh at himself. That quality is irresistible. I really, really enjoy seeing him relaxed and playing with his friends/musicians. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when he cuts up amongst family and friends.

The 1968 Comeback Special. I still need to find that whole thing and buy it some day. My Grandma is his Biggest fan i know, she got me into Elvis from a very very young age (like 5ish) and i got her a 68 comeback special collector's doll still in the box on her 75th b-day. That man was Amazing.

My mom had tons of Elvis records. If your able to find it, there is a version of this song where Elvis is cracking up. The part where he says : " do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare.." instead of saying the next line "do you gaze at your doorstep..." instead he says "do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair." Classic Elvis laugh on that one.

If you watch more of his old stuff, you'll see him reload his leg after doing a weird sideways shuffle. He would also just freeze mid-motion and laugh when the crowd would go nuts. The man was a consummate entertainer. He would goof off like crazy in the middle of songs, slur the lyrics on purpose and mess with his band or backup singers. In one concert he called for one song but the guitarist started a different song and Elvis threw a glass of water on him while still singing the song he hadn't called for. Look up Crawfish or Hunka Love, not to be confused with Hunka a Burnin' Love, or Mean Woman Blues or Tupelo 1955.
