Lyrics:
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
Oh I wish I was in Dixie, away, away
In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie
Because Dixieland, that's where I was born
Early Lord one frosty morning
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland

It really does! I don't care what age you are how can you not like Elvis. I'm 40 and love him..such a talent! My dad who's 79 grew up in the 1950's in Jackson, Tennessee not far from Memphis where Elvis made his start. His next door neighbor was Wink Martindale who was the first to person to interview Elvis on his radio show. Wink and Elvis became lifelong friends. Many of you probably know that Wink became a legendary game show host and he's actually in the Guiness Book for most different game shows hosted. Needless to say my dad loves Elvis too! He remembers local preachers talking about the evils of rock and roll. Preachers all across the country were saying the same thing. Wow how far we've come from that time!

@@CP-vi2rm How I understood it, and what I’ve read elsewhere is that it begins with Dixie, of course the song of the Deep South. Then Battle Hymn of the Republic comes in which was the anthem of the Northern soldiers and then finally the resolution of the Civil War- people have died to resolve the conflict but “Glory, Glory Hallelujah, His Truth is marching on” reflecting that the truth of freedom and man’s dignity won out. It took me a long, long time to step back and take a closer look at the lyrics and fully appreciate how profound this song actually is. Regrettably I think that many understand it as some racist anthem when it was so much more, the opportunity for healing after a bitter conflict. IMHO. Sadly in 2022 our societal conflicts are on the news and in the streets nightly. They should rerelease this song coupled with “If I Can Dream” which Presley recorded in honor of Martin Luther King Jr after his assassination.

“An American Trilogy” (1972) was recorded live from an Elvis Presley concert. A medley uniting three traditional folk songs, “Dixie,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “All My Trials,” in a symbolic effort to bring America together. The recording was taken from the evening show by the superstar on June 10, 1972 at the Madison Square Garden, New York City. ONE MAIN EVENT❗️ Priscilla Presley cited this and “If I Can Dream” (1968) as her two favorite Elvis pieces. So hush little baby, don't you cry 😢 You know your daddy's going to die..." Listened to this laying in the grass with the warm sun on the countryside with my best-friend and soulmate true artist like me. Tears running down my face... I did not know why this song spoke so much to me... It killed me when I heard the lyrics, my father died unexpectedly one week earlier. He was my Best Friend all through my childhood, trusted him more than anyone 😢 Feel that he's still with me and my daughter, though. All his empathy, sense of humour, intelligence, it died with him, but it continues in us who knew him 💙💙💙🦋💙 Peace and love to all the free spirits out there ❤ 🙏🏻🌻🩷💙
