Exactly right that the movie had a strong element of a love story between John and Paul. The scene where Paul is coming to terms with John spending more time with Yoko, being so understanding but nevertheless clearly missing his friend, was so poignant. And his joy performing with him on the rooftop, giving him happy glances, was touching.

Elvis Costello and I are the same age (1 month apart). So when he remarked that he was 9 when the Beatles rocketed to stardom and he became a big fan...that resonates with me to my bone marrow. My two best friends and I "played Beatles" all the time, complete with wigs and "Beatle boots". Yeah, I'm still a fan, Elvis.

You’re correct Alex. I think Elvis went to school there for a short period. His dad , Ross McManus, was from the heart of Birkenhead. Situated on the other side of the River Mersey, from Liverpool. Wasn’t that great song of his ‘ Ship Building’ written about Camell Lairds Shipyard? I think he still gets to see Birkenhead’s local team, Tranmere Rovers , from time to time. ‘ Pump lt Up’ is played before they run out onto the pitch, then they play ‘ The Rockford Files’ tune. I don’t know why😀

Colbert reads the very cool tweet that Elvis wrote....but leaves out the coolest part: the fact that Elvis then cites the two songs that were always the direct lineage of Pump It Up (which any real music fan knew immediately without thinking about it): Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" (1955) and Dylan's "Subterranean homesick Blues" ten years later. Making a song by just singing the 7th in the scale (the so-called "blue note"), spitting out great lyrics. Come Together is a slower version/variation of the same musical idea, and in a way so is "Satisfaction", although he mostly keeps hitting the "tonic note" as opposed to the 7th, same principle, though, just keep stabbing that one note while spitting out great lyrics.
