I went to a lot of concerts in the early ‘70’s, with a lot of big names, but Elvin Bishop will always stand out as the one concert where absolutely EVERYONE was out of their seats and dancing to his rhythm and blues. Makes me smile every time I recollect that night. So, so FUN!

I had a fake ID in 1979 when I first discovered Son Seals at Wise Fools Pub in Chicago. I became a blues addict / "groupie" ever since. Every weekend was spent in the city seeing Son, Mighty Joe, Albert Collins, Otis Rush, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Big Twist and so many more. I total blues junkie I was. LOL! So much so that I am now 60 and Buddy Guy's tax CPA! Funny how things work out.

Elvin got a free ride at any Ivy League school of his choice. He chose Univ of Chicago, met Paul Butterfield, and the rest is blues history.

Travellin' Shoes is one of the best live jams ever. It is the most underrated jam I swear. The Raisin' Hell live album ranks right up there with the best live albums ever.

Nobody but Elvin Bishop would strut out into the crowd, sit in between a couple of fans and play a solo just for them. That's classy without even realizing it... The dude was all about fun. "Elvin Bishops sitting on a bale of hay. he ain't good looking but he sure can play..."

If you love music a Elvin Bishop show was must see live music event. Last time I heard him perform was a benefit concert at the Fox in Oakland early 2000's with Bonnie Raitt , Steve Miller and the Doobie Bro's .. I was smokey so I forget who the benefit was for but I'll never forget how great the music was.

Most of you probably know that Elvin got his big break when Mike Bloomfield left the Paul Butterfield blues band, and Elvin got a chance to shine. Some of his best playing is on the Butterfield album, “the resurrection of pig boy crabshaw“ and you should check it out. This video was up many years ago, and somehow I lost track of it. So glad to see it again.

With two blues legends...Mighty Joe Young & Son Seals...Love Mighty Joe Son Seals is one of my favorites...he lays it down with a relentless groove The 3 guitar head cuttin at the end is awesome, even if the sound quality is below par This old grainy video is a treasure!

It’s a shame when they wait so long to induct someone into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. Yet I am glad because I had always heard his name, my dad had Paul Butterfield albums. I’m glad I was reminded that day in 2015 to re-check out his stuff, unbelievable.
