Eluveitie [El-vay-tee] is one of my favourite bands. The band uses a lot of different traditional instruments like mandola, bagpipe, Celtic harp, fiddle, tin whistle, low whistle, bodhran and hurdy gurdy. Their style is a combination of Death Metal and Celtic Folk and their main theme is the history and culture of the ancient Celts in continental Europe, especially of the tribe of the Helvetii. The Helvetii lived in the area of todays Switzerland (the official name of Switzerland is "Helvetic Confederation" in English or "Confoederatio Helvetica" in Latin, thats why their internet code is ".CH") and neighboring regions and got into trouble when the Roman Empire began to expand its territory. Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann is the founder and main singer which means that you will hear a lot of growling/screaming in their songs. The band had a big line-up change in 2016 when Anna Murphy (vocals/hurdy gurdy), Ivo Henzi (guitar) and Merlin Sutter (Drums) left and founded a new band called "Cellar Darling" (check them out). Now Eluveitie needed someone to replace Anna because the clean female vocals are a big part of their sound usually, especially in their non-metal songs (Eluveitie produced two Folk albums "Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion" and "Evocation II: Pantheon" where all the lyrics are sung in Gaulish, the extinct but reconstructed language of the continental Celts) and Chrigel found Fabienne Erni who never sang in a rock or metal band before (she sang at weddings and other events, she plays the Celtic Harp in some songs) and for the hurdy gurdy he found Michalina Malisz who did Eluveitie covers on KZread and to her surprise he contacted her via Facebook and invited her into the band. In two covers Michalina recently did together with Fabienne (Metallicas "Nothing else Matters" and Foo Fighters "The Pretender") she even sang and she has a really nice voice. Maybe we will hear her on some future Eluveitie songs. The band has quite a history of line-up changes like the replacement of the fiddle player in 2014 when Meri Tadic (who did some vocals too ("Desumiis Luge" together with Anna)) left and was replaced by Nicole Ansperger, for example. You might wanna check out Fabiennes and Michalinas YT channels where you can find some really great stuff these two talented ladies do besides Eluveitie. Like some covers sung by Fabienne or Michalinas "5 Riffs" series or Michas fantastic hurdy gurdy cover of "Martyr" originally by August Burns Red. Fabienne Erni: kzread.info/dron/TdZTfVtygo-aUJ0yySGlCQ.html Michalina Malisz: kzread.info/dron/8affupLOlkEtH6QZGY_9Lg.html For Eluveitie songs with more clean vocals I would recommend: "Omnos", "A Rose for Epona" and "Call of the Mountains" with Anna "Ambiramus", "Breathe", "Lugus" and "Epona" with Fabienne There is one last thing you could check out. An interview that Chrigel and Fabienne did for the podcast of vocal coach Beth Roars: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q2Vo0qOyn6TPebA.html On the contest: I am a fan of Eluveitie, Blind Guardian and Sabaton and I like Heilung (btw. they are from Norway, Germany and Denmark NOT from Sweden), Alestorm and The Hu. I will face tough decisions when these bands should compete against each other *sigh*.

@@HistoryBuff My pleasure! Oh, just one thought when I read D'Artagnan, the singer (Ben Metzner) is also in a very fun band called "Feuerschwanz". They do medieval metal and use fiddle, mandola and sometimes a bagpipe or a harp. They don't take themselves too serious. It's all about the fun and they really are very good musicians. They usually sing in German and on their latest album "Das elfte Gebot" ("The elventh Commandment") they added a second CD with several (metalized) cover versions (like "I see Fire" - Ed Sheeran, "Engel" - Rammstein, "Amen and Attack" - Powerwolf, "Hier kommt Alex" - Die Toten Hosen or "Ding" - Seeed, the Sheeran and Powerwolf covers are sung in English) which are absolutely great. Maybe you could check one of their originals out: "Metfest" (Meadfest in English), "Meister der Minne" (Master of the courtly love) or the more serious "Maleus Maleficarum"?

You should check out their song Lvgvs. The female singer is different for that one (same with Rebirth), but I feel like there's more of a mythological element to Lvgvs compared to, say, Rebirth or Call of the Mountains. Regardless, each of those songs are worth checking out. If you wanted another song with their old female singer, Celtos is a good one.

You are not wrong, the female hurdy-gurdy player sing in some other songs but she is not the main singer, sadly she is not part of the band anymore along with a few other members. I find the new female singer(Fabienne) an upgrade over Anna . If you want to check a song with this singer, I would recommand "Call of the mountains" If you want to check the new band line up id recommend "Rebirth"

Just a Moment, growling is nothing for 'Boomers'? I was Born 1969 and started listen to Metal since 1985 ( and i allways loved Rock Like AC/DC, Gianna Nannini, Suzi Quattro, The Sweet since i was 10 ) and i loved really quickly growling as it came up, i was/ i am a big Fan of Benediction, Death, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel etc. and a Fan of early norwegian Black Metal. So, no excuse about your age! Greetings from Germany. 😄

For one with clean vocals I really like Epona. It's in Gaulish too, so it gets bonus points. Plus the music video depicts a battle between the Gauls & Romans, so even better :) I'm with you on his growls. I could listen to him read the newspaper all day long, as he has dare I say it a Morgan Freeman voice, but the growls just don't do it for me.
