It's 6:56 p.m. Friday 12/22/2023. I'm listening to this song from NJ USA. Holidays are fast approaching and the love of my life of 10 years just died on 10/1/23 of pancreatic cancer. I'm feeling sorry for myself and a bit lonely so I'm doing the rounds of sad classic songs. So at the moment of my typing this, there may in fact be someone grieving the loss of a loved one like me while listening to this song. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year SoftRockMusic88.

"who's here because it's a good song?" man, I'm here to cry. To cry A LOT!
One of the saddest ballads of a terminal relationship- grasping for anything to save it when it’s already too late.
Dedicated to my Father who passed away on 20/04/2023. Not once, did I ever hear him say sorry, in his 79 years of life. Yet, he died by himself - not at all surrounded by any family/loved ones. This inspired me to ensure that I apologise to my Son, whenever I regretted my actions towards him. We are all human. We all make mistakes.

isn't it funny that music is the only constant in our lives. People come and go, friends come and go, people we love die, or just move on. But the music is always there.

So true. One of the unfortunates in life. Eventually we lose people we thought were out best friends for whatever the reason. V out parents for m die. Lose our favorite actors and musicians. We all go through this eventually. Cycle of life. Out prayers went through the same. We do sideways have our favorite music and good memories forever.

you're correct, my dear
An absolute masterpiece. No cover of this will EVER come close to this original. This song is ingrained in my mind as a song that my sister and I listened to way back in the winter of 1977 when we were stuck at home during a two week snowstorm that seemed it would never stop. Even as kids we were getting sick of the snow. LOL But my sister and I had a new album by Elton John and it was the LP that included this song. We would play both sides of that whole LP on the turntable a few times a day and that album had so many great songs of EJ's on it and we never grew tired of it. We would sit in the big front window of the house every day and listen to that EJ album and watch the snow coming down by the ton. The deepest that snow got during that two week blizzard was three feet deep. So now every time I see snow falling heavily I can't help but hear these incredible EJ songs in my head and when I hear these songs I can't help but envision snow swirling out of the sky in my mind. Those two weeks of Elton John and a huge snowstorm permanently associated snow and Elton John in my mind. The swirling snow coming down so heavily went perfectly with the up-tempo cover of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" that was also on that album. During the chorus lines of that song I can just see snow swirling out of the sky in my mind and I remember how the words fit that swirling snow scene so well because when the clouds would thin just a bit and the huge snowflakes would glow and glitter a bit because of a little sunlight leaking through they looked like diamonds falling out of the sky. I would picture Lucille Ball (Lucy) pouring diamonds out into the sky and them falling as the snow. Yes, my sister and I had quite vivid imaginations on those blizzard days. LOL We took what would normally be boring for kids now and made it into something almost magical and quite fun. My sister passed away last year suddenly and so now these somber and emotional Elton John songs that she and I enjoyed so much as kids always really get to me now. The piano in this song brings a tear to my eye when I think of my sister and remember how we watched the snow for two weeks while listening to this and many other EJ songs on the old turntable. Those were some special times that I will never forget and I will always see swirling snow in my mind when I hear this song, Philadelphia Freedom, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, The B***h Is Back, Island Girl, and so many other awesome songs by Elton John. I miss you, sis, and will always think of you when I hear these songs.

Powerful words are the hardest in 2023
Beautiful. ♥️
This was the hangover period after Elton John's initial run of phenomenally successful albums, singles and tours. This song was the perfect metaphor for that moment.

It's more like a "Swan Song" in many ways. He probably needed a long vacation. "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" was huge during that Summer, and this came out just before the Holidays that year. It was my last year of middle school and my last year of listening to American Top 40 and listening to pop music in general. A sad reflective composition but from a very happy period in my life.
Still listening and crying in 2022 😭❤️ Such an amazing song that never gets old 🥰🥰🥰 Music is Forever. It will be new all the time.

I'm glad this has words, but even if it didn't I think I would know what it was saying. This man is a true artist. I have much love and respect for him.
Sir Elton pasti semakin bangga, karena lagu nya di nyanyikan Putri Ariani di ajang AGT dan Putri berhasil mendapatkan Golden Buzzer..
The anguish and frustration in his voice seems very real.

Bernie Taupin lyricist/poet wrote every song while Elton supplied the music. Working in tandem for 53 years! Bernie knew all of Elton’s emotions and thoughts! Then we get perfection!

What amazes me is that Bernie writes the lyrics, sends them to Elton who then sets them to music- they don't collaborate or argue. Call it "the art of collaboration without collaborating." Their kung fu is very strong.

@@docbohemian1328 My personal impression was that, had Elton been born in the late 18th century instead of the 20th century, he would have formed the legit rivalry with Mozart
I like this song because it was covered by Putri Ariani from Indonesia on the Golden Buzzer American Got Talent..It turns out a very beautiful song❤️🔥

She's definitely gonna win that competition. I've never heard anyone sing this song just as well, if not better than the amazing Elton John. She gave me goosebumps for her song and again for Elton's. Just Amazing.

Also weird how easy it is to remember good lyrics. I can throw on a tupac song I haven't heard in 15 years and rap the entire thing.
When it comes to human relationship, there will be too many "sorry". It never ends. This song is always relevant.
One of the songs we played at Mom's funeral. It was her favorite song.
Warm regards from Indonesia.

Im 57 and i still cry. I saw him sing this Live on April 9 2010 in Lubbock Texas and i cried my eyes out. I dreaded hearing this song cause i knew i was gonna cry.
I think of this song when I look back and reflect on the loss I feel from a broken heart 💔. I OK when I listen to it, I get comfort when I hear the lyrics, the music, and Sir Elton John's beautiful voice and then it all makes sense that it truly was sad that it ended.
It’s incredible how he can sing easily and play piano.
