Elton John - Border Song (BBC In Concert 1970)
Музыка
‘Border Song’, the first single from Elton John’s 1970 eponymous LP, was covered by a number of artists early on with none more exhilarating than Aretha Franklin. “Bernie and I were so dumbfounded and excited beyond words,” Elton revealed upon hearing the news. “She was such an idol of mine then, let alone throughout the years, so for her to have covered this song meant so much to us at that early stage of our career.”
This clip is from BBC Elton John in Concert, recorded May 22nd1970, two mere months after the single was released in the UK.

Oh yes, there are times in the movie where he looks so much like Elton. Taron was perfect for the role of Elton - Elton was adamant that Taron play the role & sing the songs himself. He didn't want the songs mimed.

I remember listening to "Greatest Hits 2" on eight track of him playing cricket on the cover in the late seventies at 5 years old in a DC suburb
The early albums had the genius of Paul Buckmaster’s wonderful orchestral arrangements and producer Gus Dudgeon. Classic albums that have stood the test of time.

Trying to take in your take away from Elton and Bernie. Or? Just doing trolling calisthenics on the sidelines in a depthlist hope to take attention away from them?
I saw Elton John in concert last week, at one point he talked about how Aretha Franklin covering this song gave him and Bernie huge confidence boosts, being the struggling song writers they were at the time.
One of the best Elton songs

It was what a great piece of music Elton is truly a great singer
Aretha Franklin covered this, bringing her distinctive spiritual feel to the song. Her version went to #37 US in December 1970, four months after Elton's original charted. Aretha's cover was an early indication of how formidable the Elton John/Bernie Taupin songwriting team would be.
This and Take Me To The Pilot are my two favourite Elton songs. Magical.
This guy puts me in such a great mood. His songs are incredible and he has a good presence to him that just calms people.
There has never been an Elton John song that I have ever disliked. He is something for my country to be truly proud of, same as Eric Clapton who did a great cover of this song. Long live Elton, Bernie and Eric. Thanks for the music. 💙🇬🇧❤

really? he started producing absolute crap towards the end of the seventies; his eighties output was simply abysmal his early stuff is quality though :)
What incredible talent Elton John and Bernie Taupin possess. They just kept throwing out these incredible songs over the years.
Saw Elton a couple of times early 70s in intimate venues, one Bradford & one Leeds. Seen plenty of artists since including Dylan & Van Morrison. Elton is right up there with the greats in my opinion. 🏴

He had already achieved it by the end of 1970. Three great albums released in that year, then steadily downhill from there, sadly. Sold more records later on and made more money, of course, but that has little to do with artistic greatness.

Amazing pianist and A classic great voice!! Amazing melody maker with Bernie!!!
Absolutely awesome!
he was solid AF
In the depths of my memory I remember this from somewhere. and came across it again recently. It is a brilliant song easily one of Eltons best he should have and should still release it just like Tiny Dancer it would outshine any of the songs in the charts today.
I first heard this by Aretha--had no idea it was a Bernie/Elton collab. SUPER IMPRESSED with this AMAZING PIECE! ❤❤❤
The words of Taupin are authoritative. They can be a standard for all songwriters.

I loved him meaning Elton Elton
Also known as "Holy Moses," this gospel-inflected song was written by the fledgling team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin; it was produced by Gus Dudgeon. Released as the first single from Elton's second album, it spent one week on the Hot 100, reaching #92 in August 1970. For the next 25 years, Elton had a song on the chart every year, starting with with his next single, "Your Song," which propelled him to stardom when it went to #8 in 1971.
