Great analysis, but… Disney still made +$9 billion in operating cash flow last year. It can cross-subsidize Lucasfilm for years. Moreover, they will look at the $1 billion from Inside Out 2 and figure that they can do that with the next SW movie. Or the one after that. Or the one…

I'm sure Kathleen Kennedy loves making the force female and woke but she couldn't do this without permission from Bob Iger. When we look at the MCU (MSheU) it's exactly the same thing going on there so this is a much bigger problem than just Kathleen Kennedy. I have no faith that Star Wars or the MCU will be good again without a replacement for Bob Iger who wants to make good entertainment without ideology and has the ability to push this through to all levels of Disney.

The only thing I can think is that Disney is raising the production budgets for these projects externally then paying themselves (as the production studio) a hefty portion of the budget and just pocketing it. So Money Laundering. It would explain why KK still has a job, why they keeping "getting money" for new projects, and why their $180m shows look like they cost a small fraction of that.

That's been common knowledge for 2 years at this point. There was a lot of tension between Lucasfilm execs and Andor showrunners because they actually USED their budget, opposed to funneling it back into corporate pockets

There was a Disney earnings report about a year ago where Bob Iger was asked a question about the health of IPs. I remember him starting his response with..” I don’t think it’s a personnel issue.” I felt like it was meant to brush aside criticism of KK and her staff without naming them and calling more attention to them. I wonder how that’s working for him.

Some New Republic books haven't sold more than 3,000 copies? I think the books I've published have sold around 3,000 copies, and I'm just a small press/self-published author most people have never heard of. Just when I thought LucasFilm's situation couldn't get more pathetic.

Good ones are still making plenty of money, but Disney is only selling crap. They know the fans are mostly male, but all their writers hate men. You have to wonder if they ever considered making movies for the guys that want to see them instead of the girls who couldn’t care less.

Strange really, clearly forgotten which side her bread is buttered. When she first joined Lucasfilm , George & Co, yes majority were men at the time in early 80s, welcomed her with open arms and without a doubt taught her everything she knows today. When you look at those comments that’s pretty much the furthest from grateful you could possibly get. Funny when people move up the ladder they suffer from memory loss.

I work on a barge that sails the Northern Seas. I am out of the loop for almost a year. I come back and find EVS attacking all the people I respect and listen to when I come home. I thought he was friends with everyone over here. I will look deeper into it, but not sure why he is being so viscous to Jay here. Not just Jay but Jeremy, Eric July and lots of other people. Why is he such a bitter man? EVS is rich. It is not like he is poor or anything. When I asked over there I was told to leave and find somewhere else to ask my questions. Bringing back rey isn't going to save anything. Her film did decent at the box office because the franchise still had momentum from when it was good. That good will has long since been destroyed.

Look, I couldn’t agree more, but Elon should probably focus on fixing Tesla these days. Star Wars is dead. I never thought I’d say those words but it’s true. Much as we love him, we have to blame George Lucas for selling out to the house of mouse. To date, Disney has produced only 1 good Star Wars movie (Rogue One, and that’s only because it was well within the framework of the original trilogy) and about 1.5 seasons of a tv series (Mando). Everything else has been complete and utter rubbish. What else can you expect when a property is run by those who hate that property and its fans? There is no good outcome of that recipe. Even though we hoped Dave Filoni was the answer, he’s proven to be a largely empty hat. Once he left the world of animation and came out from under George’s wing, he flopped. I’ve loved Star Wars all my life. But sadly, it’s time to say goodbye.

Kennedy is a Perfect example of this awful trend where people keep getting these positions, when they in no way deserve these positions. They are not hired based off talent or skill..? So we are seeing very expensive shows, games, movies, all so terribly designed, terribly managed, Awful writing, world design, character development, poor aesthetics. So much now feels creatively bankrupt and I really hope we all snap the f*ck out of it and get back to making better things. Better games better shows better movies This show comes off so cheap & tacky.. It's not just the terrible writing & terrible acting. The whole thing is a complete self centered power trip.. It's horrible set design, horrible world building, horrible camera work. It all makes this show feel so small. Like it's filmed in a single green screen room.. Grasping at awful CGI techniques to try and force any bit of a false reality into this mess of a show. It's so far from Legitimate Star wars movies that it feels as if this whole thing is a big parody.. A very expensive parody.. These people have proven they are only capable of writing narcissistic stories that self insert themselves and their own beliefs into anything they do. Even if they get to make something from a pre-existing beloved story, they cannot help themselves. They seem to be incapable of creating artistic creations that stray away from their own personal perspective, instead of showing they can lean heavily into escapism and pure storytelling.. They have proven time and time again that they are not capable of doing anything even remotely close to that.. (which is weird because that should be one of the most important attributes that a director or a developer or an actor has in order to be successful at their job....?) How is there no one that will fire these people who openly hate the fans, hate the consumers who made their success in the first place.. These people who actively act like aggressive victims while also being a million times richer than anyone else. Yes they are the victims.. Poor them.. How can they afford to exist.. Compared to "The Acolyte" If you go back & watch "X-Men the Animated series" It was so well crafted. The story of the struggles of mutants having to deal with humanity was such a universally relatable storyline. Media back then was not afraid to face difficult topics head on. They found really unique ways to abstractly teach people life lessons. They touched on difficult situations & found intelligent ways to convey certain stories. Even when I was all grown up & rewatched it, it really felt like the story is crafted so well & executed at such a high level that anyone is capable of relating to it in someway or another. It's stuff like that, that we are deeply lacking nowadays. So much so that literal kid's cartoons from the 90's told deeper and more mature stories than most media nowadays. Stuff used to take pride in who can find the most creative ways to convey certain things. Who can give the audience certain feelings without overly explaining it. It used to not matter what kind of character, creature, species they were. What matters is that they found ways to convey artistic depictions of the Human condition. Creative ways that can connect us on a deeper level.

They bought lucas film for a couple billion now it’s probably worth a couple hundred mill they won’t sell it bc it’ll literally bankrupt them honestly you’re screwed if you don’t and you’re screwed if you do

I mean like, women characters from the Star Wars series have been pretty cool, like Ahsoka, Padme, and Leia (there’s def more but it just goes to show that there are actual good women characters. Don’t know what KK is yappin about)

Kennedy either knows where the bodies are buried, or where the incriminating evidence (sex tapes) are hidden. There is not a single person in any industry that could lose the amount of money she has for Disney, and still stay in the job pushing even more flops. Something has to give at some point and I hope it ends up with disney deciding to sell lucasfilm off to someone that actually cares about it.
