I have 2 gallons of glue laying around from my daughter’s short lived slime obsession....I better get to mixin!

I like the clear Elmers… I love the finish it leaves. Like it’s already varnished. Lol

I'm just getting started with fluid painting. I'm currently using glue as my medium just because it is cheap in small quantities, so for this practice phase I'm in it seems to do the job. But I love the scientific approach you're taking with this and I'm excited to watch the rest of this series!

I made a pouring medium from 50/50 water & pva glue which I bought at the cheap shop. It cost $8 for a litre compared to $24 for the same amount of Floetrol, so for me was definitely cheaper. Didn't work very well though, I can't seem to get the consistency right, my paint is either too thin or too thick. My best result came from using this mix and adding a couple of drops of silicone to each colour. This has been driving me crazy for a while, I keep threatening not to even try and then I'll see someone else's video and get all enthused again. New friend for your channel here, keep on creating. Consistency is the hardest part! I don't even usually use a medium in my personal pours, but that also depends on the paint I use. Keep trying, you'll get it right soon, I know it!

All paint makes/types have a different consistency so it’s best to get them to the same consistency with a little water and then add glue so they runny off your spoon like runny honey.

Try using regular Elmer's glue, not the washable stuff. The washable, unless you figured out a special mixture, doesn't bind with the paint so well and cracks. I actually like that affect, on some. I'm trying washable paint and glue and gonna see if there's a mixture with it that does work without cracking.

proper glue solution is about 60/40 glue to water ratio then mix roughly 50/50 with paint depending on paint this varies. My impression is that your glue/water/paint ratios where severely lacking water

This formual creates very watered down paint. I don't reccommend using it. As you can see in the video she used very little water and got a decent consistency. I damn near ruined my entire batch of 1 gallon paint colors, had to go back and add alot more paint to the mixture to get a reasonable consistency.

I believe the Main point is School Glue is it's Washable, and the Multipurpose Glue-All is Not Washable, So after it's dried the School glue could be wiped away easier if it got wet hence for cleanup, but otherwise they both look and dry the same. The Multipurpose Glue-All will be more permanent for archival.

Plus the glue all its thinner then the school glue so if u use 50/50 it's good and leave the acrylics flowing really well

Elmers Glue All is what you want to use. The regular Elmers School Glue tends to creak. Why this is, I have not idea. Just something I've learnt from experience.

I'll bet there were lots of colors under the blue on the PVA pour. Next time you should take straw and blow a little out. I use PVA all the time with ring pours and those types of pours. I really like it.

Hi, hope ok to mention, Elmers Glue all is much better than Elmers school glue... Don't ask me why so, but it's according to the Internet 😁

I use Michael’s Craftsmart white glue and it’s fantastic!

4.2.2024. Hi, I just watched you video on Elmer's school glue. I thought the cost per oz was high so I checked the price at Walmart. For 1 gal (128 oz), it's $12.97, which comes out to slightly more than 10c per oz. The 128 oz of clear Elmers glue is $21.88, which is 17c per oz. Thanks for this information ising Elmers.

There are many methods to pouring paint in the cup together to stop them from Mudding. its when u do the pour/flip cup/etc is the challenge along with that you have to spread it out & move it around the canvas which adds another challenge to making it either look worse or look better or keeps it the same just stretched. Floetrol by it self does breaks down the pigment subtracting from the depth of color even after dried. (Glue & Flotral mix works pretty good) Glue does cost more tho especially if you’re looking for the certain glue. Many different techniques may requires many different pouring mediums as all experiments. Lol ❤️ I love watching these videos and all different types of techniques and pouring medium used for certain techniques to get different results so thank you for this video I subscribed Keep up the good work

Haven’t found a favorite method yet. I think it’s cuz I like to Doodle around in almost all my pours lol I like to see what kind of design effect I can get &/or if it would look better or if it open up the painting with more &/or gives me ideas lol I have a hard time doing a pour & not playing in after to change it that’s y I don’t have very many videos up cuz even if I speed them up there still really long! 😢🙄😂

at home depot you should be able to find American floetrol by the gallon for cheaper than glue , that being said you will get similar results to Australian floetrol by mixing it with glue

Ive been using the glue in my paint colors. Paint pouring on vases. Elmers glue.

Nice video. On the cost, In the UK Floetrol is available at around £30 for 2 1/2 litres, a LOT more expensive than glue.

I know this post is a year old.but am curious to where you get floetrol for £30..I get my 2.5 lts from brewer's. Which is £ 43..and I pay cowling and wilcox£6.75 each for 250 mil of Windsor and Newton tubs of paint..they work great together and a great fun hobby but expensive .so always looking for cheaper materials..picked up a 90,90 inch canvas the other day for £8..barging 😃😃

When I mix Elmer's school glue I first mix with water. Than I pour that into.the paint and I find it comes out nice

If you look at Julie Cutts from Australia/ 'pouring your heart out' on YT- she uses Glue All- not school glue- and gives the recipe somewhere in her fb group notes. Further to this theory- your colours WILL yellow in time ok? The difference with floetrol is that it is a non yellowing mix with a binder for extending pigment Colour without dilution unlike just water &/ glues.

Great insight! I haven't use the glue since testing it. I prefer floetrol or some instances or just water. I don't tend to keep many of my fluid paintings or more than a year or two, so I on't worry too much about yellowing.

@Tina Dawes - Julie Cutts uses Elmer's School Glue - refer #332 BIG BOWL Pour with Elmer's School Glue; #601 Important Fact if Using Elmer's SCHOOL GLUE (Pouring Your Heart Out). Re yellowing - Elmer's School Glue dries clear. Surely if your use clear gloss varnish on your finished works, yellowing will not occur.

Floetrol may cost less per ounce (I always thought Floetrol was expensive), but what about cost per use? That is the correct question. Very good video.

Hey there, I love Colorado! Seems that most of the green ran off the top of the PVA canvass.🙏🏻

I like clear glue better because of the glossy finish but, glue all gives better cells. I'm broke as hell so I have to use the cheapest things possible.

Use the Elmers Glue All.... school glue dosen't have the same gathering characteristics as the glue all. But best medium , I think is GAC 800... smooth rich giving....

What was your mixing ratio? Pouring your heart out uses 70 school glue and 30 percent water she also did demonstration using 60 40..hers did not have any cracking..

Honestly, I don't remember now. My guess would be 1:1 paint to glue and then a few pipettes of water until I had the desired thickness.

PVA is Glue All not School glue and here in AZ a gallon on glue all and one gallon of flood floetrol are the same price $14 and some change. I wonder mixing both would make an even better pouring medium. I saw one vid of a woman forgot her name but she used both and liqutex pouring medium. I will have to experiment. TFS great vid

That is what I do. I use 60% Floetrol, 30% Elmer's Glue All, and 10% water. I haven't had any problems so far with it.

Stephanie Ward I just made that same concoction for a pouring medium and just mixed paints with it in my new LoLiVeFe squeeze bottles that are awesome because their clear see through and come in great sizes. I have never seen anyone use Elmer's regular glue for a pour. Only Elmer's Glue All. I don't feel this is a fair representation of what most other people use. In fact most people say not to use regular glue.

Did you pour anything on the canvas before you turned your cup over onto the canvas

How do you get the cells? What sort of torch are you using?

Seems like you may have poured some paint from futher up, so paint poured through other paints in cup causing it to mix more. And the glue seemed thicker, needing more water. Just my observations. Loved this video and your art. TY!

In the uk flutrol is very much more expensive, so looking for an alternative is cost effective here.

I am new to acrylic pouring and am getting ready to do a big project this weekend. I’m this video, I’m curious why you didn’t test PVA against floetrol? Is water non-inferior to floetrol as well? (If that’s the case, why buy either one of water works just fine?)

I did a retest of that, basically I just didn't understand the difference in this video, but did make a follow up!

The problem is you used name brand glue. I buy off brand glue by the gallon. Very cheap and works great for this type of art.

Elmer's glue all and Elmer's school glue are different solutions, aren't they? I'm not sure where washable comes in.

Can you please answer me as I’ve been searching every where, I am trying to find if the PVA glue will dry in tiny bottles if I wear to layer say 1/4” at a time. How long and does it dry? I appreciate if you can help me out. Ty.

Ok the glue with the pvc glue the color seems to stay like not diluted .. after the pouring .. I see the blue and green able to maintain .. true it doesn’t spread out as good as the water ..

I saw you can use paint plus glue for masking

Wish I would have seen this before I purchased the "other stuff". :)

most artists i've seen make a point to use "elmer's glue-all"/not "elmers school glue". i could see the difference in my own pours. maybe the 'pva' part of the "glue all" has more binders? more scary sounding ingredients, for sure. wouldn't be so easy to recover from, when in kindergarten, we all faced the rite of passage and... ate glue. wait. what? you all never ate glue in kindergarten? well, it was more like a paste. a heavy body glue. in a jar. it sorta tasted good. no really. it did. so honk if you're a dinosaur and you remember this. if you're a hotshot millennial; thank you for making a 'school glue' that would be safer for the next gen. no really thank you!! because my dad's gen used to love a whole different glue.airplane/model glue. just say no to that,why do you think they call it glue?

I wonder instead of pva and water what water base polyurethane would do as a pouring medium?

But the glue you mix with water, so 32 oz of glue ends up being approx 43 oz of pouring medium. I'm new at this, so I have not used flotrolal yet, but it is my understanding that you use it straight out of the container without diluting it, right?

Often Floetrol must be strained BTW.

It's Elmer's Glue All.. It's different than the school glue. I'm no expert but that's what I've been told....

Hi. I did a pour with Elmer's glue and water and colors came out ok but not glossy. Do I have to coat with epoxy too! Also, there were absolutely no cells.

Hello! This really depends on your preference. If you want it extra shiny epoxy will do that. The cells will depend on a few things, the brand of paint, the viscosities, if you had additives, and the list goes on!

Age of different paints, volume v. weight, how it was poured, etc. After seeing your most recent video (water v. school v. all) I would think the different in finish is vinyl content. School and water wouldn't be as high in latex content?

Hi there! I find that the main thing that leads to cracking is how thick you leave the paint on the canvas to dry. If it's too thick when it's drying it cracks if it's floetrol, water, or glue. It might be the kind of paint you're using. I have tried some in the past that didn't get great cells. If you can get your hands on Anita's Paint, I always get cells with that with just water, and no other additions, and might be worth a try. Good luck! It just takes a little practice to figure out the right consistencies. Once you get it, you'll be off to the races, don't get discouraged too fast!

So I have heard this pretty consistently, is there really an appreciable difference between Elmers's Glue All and Elmers School Glue? I'm so new at this and I've heard so many conflicting recipes.

I've been trying to find a cheap pouring medium, and have come to realize that price is all about where you buy it from. I was comparing floetrol and elmers glue on amazon and Elmers was the clear winner there.. until I went and looked at the prices at walmart and lowes! Elmers went from $20 online to $10.88 at walmart per gallon, and Floetrol went from $30 to $14.67 at lowes. Is Floetrol a good medium to use? Every youtube channel I look at has different opinions on what to use. Personally I'm looking for the cheapest of the best. I don't like to substitute quality.. but I'd rather use this than the pricier liquitex and other brands if I can.

You're totally right about price changing by location! In my personal pours I don't typically use a medium, I use craftsmart or Anita's paint and water. But, that's my personal preference. I think that the best way to get the best value is to use what works best for you. There are tons of differing opinions out there and I don't think any are the true right answer, it comes down to personal preference. If you like using a medium and are price sensitive, I personally would go for Floetrol over either glue or specialty mediums like liquitex.

Exactly! May of 2019, I was painting my house, and the floetrol was in that $30 range per quart, @ home depot /lowes and it would have required 9 quarts according to the instructions!

You don’t have to buy name brand glue! Buy off brand brand glue by the gallon and save a ton of money.

use pure PVA glue, so in this case elmer's glue ALL, not the diluted version, or any other pure pva brand, it will result in fact in less pigment loss due to the less addition of water, you should use a scale and % to make accurate testing, and of course a bigger sample size with different water % and glue % as well.

You concluded that elmer's glue is not that cost effective as floetrol.... In the states. Outside the states, elmer's is cheap and readily available whereas floetrol is not. I bought a liter of elmer's glue from a store nearby for 12 bucks. I then ordered a liter of floetrol online and paid 70 bucks including shipping.

There is nothing to fear with PVA glue - hence why it's so popular as ' the white school glue ', been used with children now for eons. I learned that why PVA glue works as a binder, is that acrylic paints have similar structure so it goes well together

It can be! It seems to really change. Each time I do one of these videos, the prices fluctuate, pretty crazy. It also seems to depend on where you live. That being said, I think Elmers glue works better than Floetrol, so if can buy it cheaper, then it's a double win!
